I have “been” to school in Holland, England, Scandinavia, Morehouse … in all of these the “culture” was Dutch, Swedish or Danish, AA .. none were Jewish.
There is and needs to be a tradeoff as any minority group enters the center of the society’s elite. At the same time the minority evolves in ways the narrow its own distinctive properties. So most Jews, Irish, and Italians today are happy to be considered “white.” Of course by doing this, they leave behind a lot of the original culture.
As a good example, at least two of Sally Hemming’s kids left slavery and became white. LITERALLY! My understanding is that this part of the Hemmings mischpoche left their familial identity behind, in contrast to the black Hemmings who who today have preserved a unique tradition.
As a committed Jew, my own compromise is to celebrate my own culture while .. I hope .. contributing what I am to the cultural mix.
