This is why no one is particularly concerned that in early April RFK Jr. is pulling anywhere from 10-15% of the vote. Stories like this keep popping up and when it comes crunch time you’ve got:

Steady Boring Joe bringing the Jobs and the student debt relief.
    or
Donald, bringing the felonies, the rape, the business fraud, the J 6heroes who need pardoning, the abortion ruling, the war on gays, the pulling out of NATO, the rapes, the felonies, the stealing the election…and a guy you don’t want to have Cofeve with all the stench and all that.

    CNN
    —
A New York-based campaign official for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. who raised the possibility that voting for the independent presidential candidate would help Donald Trump defeat President Joe Biden previously promoted false claims that the 2020 election was rigged and attended “Stop the Steal” rallies after the election, including the rally on January 6, 2021, in Washington, DC, that preceded the deadly riot at the US Capitol.

Rita Palma, who has identified herself as the Kennedy campaign’s state director in New York, also repeatedly called Trump her “favorite president,” according to tweets along with comments she posted on the conservative social media site Parler that have since been made private.

Once you drop below the top tier national people being paid $$$, RFK, Jr’s state level staff are all MAGA through and through.

It’s not so much that they didn’t screen as that’s basically who showed up and signed up. The mistaken premise was that there ever existed any kind of popular groundswell for that scumbag and his grab bag of paranoia outside of Q/MAGA.

Kristi Noem has a slush fund. The Governor of South “Fuck the ‘Rona We’re Having Sturgis Super Spreader Event” Dakota is under fire for spending $9m in ads touting South Dakota as a place for business to move.

in response, The governor’s Monday press release about the newest ad said,

“Thousands and thousands of families have already moved to South Dakota, and thousands more are in the process of coming here. “Anecdotally, we are hearing from even more folks who did not utilize the formal process but were spurred to move here by the ads,” the office said.

Let’s look at the data of the families moving to SD to work and grow companies from the most recently available data (2022)

SD Over 65 population grew from 14.3% of the total in the state in 2010 to 18% in 2022.

All other demographics are largely unchanged.

The about to retire 50-64 population shrunk from 19.4% to 18%

Families moving to an area to work generally bring kids or just starting out couples come for the job and have kids. 0-4 population, 7.3% 2010 6.4% 2022.

    5-19 age, dropped a bit 20.5% 2010, 20.3% 2022.

The really interesting one is new, gonna work here for the rest of my life bracket, 20-34 year olds. 20% 2010, 19.5 2022.

Or the prime of of our earnings potential 35-49 demographic. 18.4% 2010. 17.8% 2022.

Yes of course Governor. Bringing in a bunch of reitrees to suck your meager Medicare funds dry is the sure route to future economic prosperity. What matters is you can point to thousands and thousands of not working families moving into the state.

Say, where did the money get spent? An Ohio Conservative advertising company called Strategic Media. She didn’t even spend the money with an in state firm.

The funds for the campaign are paid by a tax fee on all SD businesses while the governor can unilaterally decide how to spend the cash to promote South Dakota as a place to live. You know, a slush fund to spend on an Ohio Political consulting firm for a future run for VP?

74% of Americans (Pew Feb 2024) believe supporting Ukraine is in America’s best interest. One orange fellow running for president does not.

The US transferred thousands of machine guns, sniper rifles, rocket launchers and hundreds of thousands of rounds of ammunition seized from Iran to Ukraine last week, US Central Command announced on Tuesday.

Ukraine has been suffering from shortages of weapons and munitions on the battlefield in its war against Russia, with the US unable to send more equipment from its own stockpiles until more funding is approved by Congress.

CENTCOM said the materiel transferred to Ukraine is enough to equip one Ukrainian brigade — around 4,000 personnel — with small-arms rifles. “These weapons will help Ukraine defend against Russia’s invasion,” CENTCOM said in a statement.

The munitions were originally seized by the US military and its partners “from four separate transiting stateless vessels between 22 May 2021 to 15 Feb 2023,” but the US government did not obtain ownership of the equipment via the Justice Department’s civil forfeiture process until December of last year, CENTCOM said.

Double whammy of a PR win. Ukraine (potential NATO ally, does Donald have things to say about NATO) gets arms. Those arms came from long time nemesis of the U.S. Iran to fight the longer nemesis Russia.

Interesting company, before there were those socialist snow plows, they just put blades on their buses and did their own plowing.

    https://www.jeffersonlines.com/about-jefferson-lines/mission-and-history/

Interesting how they have survived so long as a family company, sometimes later generations of the family, if they own a company , don’t care. Seems that did in Rimrock Stage Lines, they flunked a surprise inspection of the FMCSA. It’s a shame, they were a major local connection in Montana. Rimrock had a flag stop in Deer Lodge, but the usual riders were the ones making a one way trip. If they returned, it was the kind of return trip the State of Montana provided.

This proposal from Community Transit is more of just doing a little housekeeping. When LINK reaches Lynwood, the only one of their commuter routes to King County will be Rt424, Monroe to Downtown Seattle, so those riders will be seeing a $2 fare cut. Still don’t like Sound Transit abandoning distance based fares on LINK, and definitely opposed to going fareless as some public transit agencies outside of Puget Sound have done.

The $3 flat fare on LINK that is planned, is an increase for some existing riders, if they had gone for the higher end of the original proposal, would have been a big increase for most existing riders. Base fare currently is $2.25, The maximum is $3.50 for a trip from Northgate to Angle Lake. Examples of journeys with the $2.25 fare, include within Downtown Seattle, between the two University District Stations, and just a trip to the next station. Those who transfer from Metro to LINK, it will be an extra quarter, but Metro is proposing a fare increase.

    https://www.communitytransit.org/news-and-events/article-detail/2024/04/05/community-transit-proposes-elimination-of-commuter-bus-fare

Surprised Community Transit didn’t just go fare free, unlike other LOCAL transit authorities, they have an extra .3% sales tax to work with. It’s a special authority given to CT, well actually to Public Transportation Benefit Area Authorities that meet a population threshold that only applies to CT’s district.

Even leading Arizona Republican strategists with decades of success in statewide contests are willing to admit that Republicans have now “skillfully” put themselves into direct opposition with voters they need on abortion.

But not the lying idiot troll, who after seven straight years of consistent losing, now builds his political forecasting from a potent daily brew of bad math, legally adjudicated lying media, and purified Q-MAGA faith, hope, and resentment.

Yeah that was bullshit that IDF peddled and Dumbfuck bought.

CNN collected testimonies and videos from 22 eyewitnesses, many of whom had traveled from other cities across Gaza in the hopes of finding something for their families to eat. When the convoy passed through an Israeli checkpoint on Al Rashid Street, the main north-south route designated by the Israeli military for humanitarian aid, survivors recalled Israeli troops opening fire on crowds as they tried desperately to reach the food aid. Many said they were undeterred by the bullets, believing that if they weren’t killed attempting to get the flour, they would die of hunger instead.
    …
On March 8, after an internal investigation, the IDF released a timeline suggesting that the aid convoy began to cross into northern Gaza accompanied by its tanks at 4:29 a.m. A minute later, at 4:30 a.m., the IDF said its troops fired “warning shots” toward the east to disperse crowds before firing at “suspects” who they claimed posed a threat. At 4:45 a.m., the military said it fired more warning shots.

But CNN’s analysis of dozens of videos from the night and testimonies from eyewitnesses’ casts doubt on Israel’s version of events. The evidence, reviewed by forensic and ballistic experts, indicated that automatic gunfire began before the IDF said the convoy had started crossing through the checkpoint and that shots were fired within close range of crowds that had gathered for food.

The IDF did not answer CNN’s questions regarding its findings but said that it stood by its previous statements about what happened on February 29. It added that the incident was being examined by the General Staff’s Fact-Finding and Assessment Mechanism (FFAM), an independent body, and that no further information would be released until their investigation was complete.

With Arizona off the table now, to have a path to 270 Trump must pull off a major upset in more than one Blue Wall state plus Georgia. Depending on the combinations it must be either two or three flips.

Out of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Georgia which two or three does Trump stand a reasonable chance of flipping? Take away either Pennsylvania or Georgia and the math requires flipping the other three. It’s for precisely this reason that Trump is pushing Nebraska in an unprecedented effort to approve a change to switch to winner-take-all. That one electoral vote from Nebraska’s 2nd District is potentially decisive giving Trump one more path to 270.

What ought to stand out here from these musings is that behind the scenes Republicans are planning first for a statistically narrow, limited path to victory. That this path depends on the slimmest of odds for things like major revisions to how EVs get awarded. But that a big part of the Republican strategy is to get “close” enough that they can then unleash the same well-rehearsed combination of bullshit legal challenges and violence to flip a single state after the fact by disenfranchising those voters. That’s most ripe in Georgia where Republicans, despite being in the minority of voters, still manage to control state government and elections.

So taking all that into consideration at this point, it’s actually a little wild that the corporate media expect all of us to go into panicked doom-scrolling mode with any report, however gauzey and mystical, suggesting anything possibly improving in Trump’s favor.

Six months worth of news in virtually every category has been universally shitty for Trump and his campaign. Court verdicts, convictions, judgements, crumbling impeachment, Dobbs, abortion ballot measures, redistricting, jobs, the economy, stock markets, immigration, Ukraine, fundraising, campaign spending, the list goes on and on. But the corporate media have grown dependent on avoiding pointing out all the terrible news for Trump since it is proven to drive about half of news consumers into the arms of a small handful of pro-Trump propaganda peddlers. And that leaves them counting on the other half to fly into fits of panic any time some micro-stat shows up offering some tiny indication of negativity for Biden.

It’s stupid. But more importantly, it’s not sound mathematically.

Trump is facing the narrowest conceivable pathway to 270 in modern presidential politics. He’s still a threat. But nothing to panic about. After all, Trump has never stopped fucking himself yet. There’s no reason to think he won’t keep right on doing so.

… it’s actually a little wild that the corporate media expect all of us to go into panicked doom-scrolling mode …

You must mean the “corporate media’s” reporting of numerous polls that are consistently showing Trump with a lead in nearly all of the battleground states.

Those bastards. Reporting news. How dare they.

Obviously, in any report of public opinion surveys there is a considerable portion of analysis. Polls themselves begin with an analytical undertaking that attempts to validate how the responses of 1000 people contacted who agree to be surveyed can be reliably applied to predict the voting patterns of hundreds of millions of Americans. When you learn about how surveys work you immediately appreciate how much their reported results depend upon analysis of all kinds of huge data sets and opinions, based on various forms of evidence, about what that data means.

Normally when news media include opinions they label it as such. But not so with political polls. Ignorant, wishful, and childish news consumers embrace poll reporting as somehow reporting “facts” rather than reporting “opinions about opinions”.

    Applauding war crimes. Good job.

Haniyeh, the chairman of Hamas’s Political Bureau, lives in Qatar, alongside other members of Hamas’s political leadership.

So you knew the target was not there. But you killed his family anyway.

Haniyeh himself later confirmed that three of his sons and three of his grandchildren had been killed in the strike.

@28 Even if Avenatti’s opinion doesn’t count for beans, it’s not a good sign for Trump that multiple prosecutors, grand juries composed of ordinary citizens, and judges, all acting as gatekeepers, concluded there’s enough evidence of criminal guilt to make him stand trial.

The bar is high, so conviction is not a sure thing. Prosecutors must convince jurors the evidence shows guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

In addition, they must thread an obstacle course of potentially partial jurors and Trump-friendly judges at trial, appellate, and Supreme Court levels.

I’m not in a position to accurately predict whether Trump will succeed in keeping himself above the law. I don’t think Avenatti is, either. Or you.

It’s crystal clear the founding fathers intended to authorize states to organize militias consisting of citizens bearing smooth-bore, muzzle-loading, flintlock muskets charged with black powder and shooting round lead balls with an effective range of around 100 yards.

Liberals reinterpret the Constitution to keep it relevant to modern times. Conservatives bend and twist the Constitution to serve their ideology.

Liberals justify their interpretations by arguing the Constitution is a “living document.” Conservatives justify their distortions by inventing bullshit theories and doctrines.

Are you ready for “supercore inflation“?

    MARKET INSIDER
The ‘supercore’ inflation measure shows Fed may have a real problem on its hands

Along with the overall inflation measure, economists also look at the core CPI, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, to find the true trend. The supercore gauge, which also excludes shelter and rent costs from its services reading, takes it even a step further. Fed officials say it is useful in the current climate as they see elevated housing inflation as a temporary problem and not as good a gauge of underlying prices.

Supercore accelerated to a 4.8% pace year over year in March, the highest in 11 months.

Tom Fitzpatrick, managing director of global market insights at R.J. O’Brien & Associates, said if you take the readings of the last three months and annualize them, you’re looking at a supercore inflation rate of more than 8%, far from the Federal Reserve’s 2% goal.

“As we sit here today, I think they’re probably pulling their hair out,” Fitzpatrick said.

the corporate media” are owned by rich white guys,

I think that missed the point by oversimplifying.

Even in the complete absence of class motivation and bias, there exists a very powerful media bias that applies just as equally the most politically liberal source.

Modern news media exist in dynamic competition for our attention, however brief. It is constant and unrelenting. It operates all the time and in all conceivable realms of reporting.

Two very ideologically distinct populations of news media consumers, each representing roughly half of all news media consumers, now exhibit very distinct responses to certain kinds of news content.

Republican, “conservative”, and Trump supporting news consumers respond very consistently to negative reports about Trump by changing the channel, scrolling past, turning the page, and consistently gravitating instead to reporting and sources that are complimentary and offer praise.

While at exactly the same time, Democrats, progressives, and Biden supporting news consumers respond very consistently to negative reports about Biden by pausing to give their full attention, leaning in, turning up the volume, and preparing to share the report with others. The trauma of the 2016 loss leaves this half of news consumers on hair-trigger alert like a PTSD survivor responding to a car backfire with cold sweats.

When something that powerful and that predictable is going on with the audience every news media source is going to notice it and act in response to it. Wealth, class, and ideology don’t enter into it.

    59,

    He wasn’t ready last time.

He opened up that Wednesday morning following election night projecting late come from behind victory for The Rapist, and “Ossoff is toast”.

“Yesterday and today will be remembered by Republicans as good days.”

By lunchtime he offered us this nugget for the ages:
Donald Trump has received 2 million more votes than Hillary Clinton. Shame she wasn’t running, eh?

As the day wore on he fell to literally pleading like a weak bitch for the Michigan returns to rescue a drowning John James. Sometime later in the evening and into Thursday that fucking idiot troll began proudly bragging about the new crop of female Republican House members like MTG and Lauren Boebert 😂.

Pretty soon after that the loser troll suddenly became an expert on Democrats and the party leadership, lecturing all of us about how Abigail Spanberger (???) would soon be taking over and imposing plenty of austere centrist, tax and entitlement cutting wisdom on the hippies.
Today she sits on two minor Ag committees and a foreign affairs sub committee.

By Saturday morning, in an obvious delusional fugue state and in a fit of grandiosity this sad, pathetic loser troll proceeded to inform us (as though we even give a shit) that he was experiencing supreme triumph because (Ron Howard voice over):

    1. Trump almost pulled it off.
    (He did not)

    2. The Senate will remain in GOP hands.
    (It would not)

    3. The House Democrat majority has shrunk significantly and the potential for a flip to GOP control in 2022 has considerably grown.
    (It did not)

It certainly would have all been lots more fun if public spaces weren’t shut down to save lives from a virus the troll never believed in either.
But we’ll have this year to really enjoy dancing on the grave of the GOP.
