    Anyone else see Jesse Hagopian quoted in the NYT?

    Jesse Hagopian, a Seattle high school teacher and writer, said testing to measure the impact of the pandemic misses what students have learned outside of physical classrooms during a year of overlapping crises in health, politics and police violence.

    “They are learning about how our society works, how racism is used to divide,” he said. “They are learning about the failure of government to respond to the pandemic.”

    See, it doesn’t matter that Seattle public school students didn’t get the 3 Rs for three years, and still aren’t getting enough of it to stop falling further and further behind. What’s important to Hagopian is that they got to see friends of theirs murdered in the Durkan Kill Zone during the Summer Of Love!

    Hagopian’s students learned about the failure of Seattle’s mayor and city council members to take some responsibility and show some spine.

    Laughable, but on par for a libbie “educator”.

    Photos shared on social media show that Bud Light has allegedly received Costco’s so-called “star of death”—a small asterisk at the top right-hand corner of items’ price tags which the retailer uses to signal a product will no longer be restocked once it is sold out.

One of the pictures shows the beer being sold at $14.97 for a 2 x 12 pack, which a Twitter user said was Costco “practically giving away Bud Light.”

    Is there a difference between the parties?

    Late today HHS sent a directive with the full support of the White House to all medical professionals nationwide that the Emergency Medical Treatment and Act of Labor Act of 1986 is still in effect. Directed that doctors, hospitals and insurance companies can be sued in Federal court for for failure to provide ‘stabilizing treatment for pregnant patients” and shields individual providers for using their medical judgment to provide appropriate care to any pregnant patient in an emergency medical situation.

    That’s a giant green light for any care provider waiting for an expectant mother to go into sepsis in order to terminate a non-viable pregnancy or eliminate an ectopic pregnancy at first diagnosis as many hospitals in deep red states were interpreting the change in state laws to require them to perform no treatment.

    Health Secretary Xavier Bacera made clear in the directive that FEDERAL law is supreme to any state law.

    What’s the big issue for 2024? Trans kids or safe medical treatment for women? Fuck around and find out GOP.

    Under Trump, the Justice Department conducted politically motivated criminal investigations of his 2016 rival Hillary Clinton; former secretary of State John Kerry; his onetime national security adviser John Bolton; his potential 2020 rival Joe Biden, and former acting FBI director Andrew McCabe.
    Although they extended over many years at tremendous expense, none of these full blown DOJ criminal pursuits led to any criminal charges.

    It’s very clear now that, having done so under Trump, should any Republican ever again reach the White House they will employ the DOJ as a political tool to harass and pursue their enemies and entrench themselves in power in ways that no president before, including Nixon, ever dared.
    Part of the transformation of the GOP that has occurred since Trump took it over includes the widespread acceptance and embrace of extending all-out, no limits political aggression beyond institutional boundaries. That is the “style” of leadership that Republican voters now approve of.

    I think Democrats and Democratic candidates have to begin talking about this in some way, in order to help illustrate to the voters the immense threat to the republic that the GOP now poses. This country really cannot afford another Republican in the White House. It would cost us our democracy.

    The original district court ruling in Arkansas that temporarily blocked that state’s trans youth health care ban was explicit that the law aimed “not to ban a treatment,” since hormone therapies, puberty blockers, and surgeries that can affirm a person’s gender identity are not banned for cisgender minors. Rather, the laws aim “to ban an outcome that the State deems undesirable.”

    Had she not run in 2016, RBG would have retired during Obama’s second term. Moscow Mitch would have blocked any Obama nominee. And the eventual outcome remains unchanged.

    The origin of the current court composition lies in a Senate controlled by Republicans. It is deeply dishonest to argue that any Democratic president can control their own judicial nominees when Republicans have a Senate majority. We now all know that it is presumptive policy for Senate Republicans to block all Democratic nominees regardless of qualification, and to steamroll approval of all Republican nominees regardless of rape, corruption, or lack of qualification.

    That’s just who Republicans are now.
