Please join us this evening as the Seattle Chapter of Drinking Liberally toasts in the summer. We’ll spend some time talking politics, too.
The Seattle Chapter of Drinking Liberally meets every Tuesday at the Roanoke Park Place Tavern (2409 10th Ave E, Seattle) starting at 8pm. You’ll find us on the back patio.
Chapters of Living Liberally are all over the place…if you can’t make it to the Seattle chapter, stop by another chapter near you.

“We will continue to fight today, tomorrow,. And no matter what happens, there’s going to be a reckoning about what just occurred, unless we stop this bill by tomorrow.” – Rep Chip Roy, R-Freedumb on the passage of the Debt Relief bill out of Committee.
Yes, there are already is a reckoning. Y’all get to sit down and shut up and now that you lost a Rep today and will likely lose one to a felony conviction before long. Or you can blow up the party and call for a vote to oust McCarthy and head into 2024 in full disarray, with a racist rapist for a party leader and see how that works out.
No one gives a crap what the 40 or so of you think.
We double DOG dare you.

I….want you to close your eyes. Imagine that sweet little baby. Can you see her. All strapped into the car seat safe and snug. I want you to imagine that little angel. Can you see her? Now before you open your eyes, imagine if this was a gay couple and what kind of new laws we’d get passed.
So let me get this straight. Your all knowing and all seeing Lord and Savior Jesus, while you were so busy serving him and adoring him at the Sunday meeting never once put into your head, “Hey maybe leaving the infant in the car is a bad idea and it’s been an hour and I’ll bet she’s awake and needing a diaper or something to eat?” Sounds to me like he ain’t real.
KOMO viewer spews:
4 – KOMO had a story this evening about an infant in foster care who died while being left in a car for 9 hours. The foster mom forgot the child was in the vehicle. I think this happened in the local area, but I can’t remember exactly where.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@3,4 How hot does it get in a car? Years ago, I left an unopened can of soda pop in the console of my car, parked in the Belltown district of downtown Seattle. It was hot that day, and when I returned to my car several hours later, the can had exploded and its contents were all over the interior of the car.
By now, hot car child deaths have been so publicized there’s no excuse for anyone not knowing about how dangerous this is. What kind of fool leaves a child unattended in a car, anyway, for even two minutes?
This mother’s negligence doesn’t make her a murderer, but it certainly rises to criminal negligence, and she’ll probably do jail time for it. There’s a class of mistakes you don’t make. This is one of them. Leaving loaded guns lying around where children are playing is another. There’s a limit to how much society suffers fools.
On the other hand, if you’re a political leader, especially of a certain U.S. party, you can fuck up the economy or an entire war, and there’s a class of voters who’ll still vote for you anyway, because they’re fools themselves.

A reminder that during Speaker negotiations to build the coalition, that it was explicit both that nothing would pass Rules Committee without AT LEAST 7 GOP votes – AND that the Committee would not allow reporting out rules without unanimous Republican votes. #DebtCeiling

How incredibly weak. Back in January Brave Kevin secretly surrendered his party’s control of Rules to the cult for the sake of his personal ambition.
RedReformed spews:
“This is a little complicated, but Roy was basically claiming that he, fellow Freedom Caucus member Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) and a third non-McCarthy loyalist on the committee, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), each had veto power. So even if something like the debt ceiling deal got a majority of GOP members or the committee as a whole, they would be able to stop it.”
Rep. Stephanie I. Bice (R-Okla.) added: “I don’t know what Speaker McCarthy agreed to, but that has not been something that any of us were familiar with.”
It seems, based upon all indicators, that Roy has gotten this wrong. The question from there is whether Roy feels misled somehow, and how that might affect his relationship with McCarthy.
“Republicans in disarray”?
Elijah Dominic McDotcom spews:
It seems, based upon all indicators, that Roy has gotten this wrong.
Or that he’s gotten it 100% right, as far as what was promised and agreed upon by Brave Kevin.
This is some of what McCarthy is famous for, saying what fools like Chip Roy want to hear, and knowing that fools will hear it that way.
While not willing to cite any details, back in January Roy alluded to key promises made by the Speaker to gain his support and that of his extremist coalition. We know these included the appointments on Rules and arrangements for gavel time for Trailer Park Barbie, but also a number of concessions that seemed to be “off the books”.
This is Roy’s chance as a baby member to find out what a handshake is worth. And he may conclude that he can’t afford this humiliation without retaliation.
What an asshole. I bet it’s a Republican. spews:

“Hardest working golfer…” If you ask me it knows it’s a goner but the magats keep the faith anyway. No way DeAsshole gets its endorsement unless a yuge check is written and the billionaires aren’t that dumb.
That could apply to Democrats or Republicans. spews:

Ahead of a Board of Regents meeting later this week, University of Minnesota President Eric Kaler proposed a 2.5 percent tuition hike for undergraduate resident students at the Twin Cities campus. These hikes follow only a partial allotment of the school’s budget request by the State Legislature.
>> When R Boomers got done with college the first time, they started voting for politicians who stopped funding education to lower R Boomer taxes. Thus….
The National Center for Education Statistics said that the average cost of a four-year undergraduate degree course has risen from $26,902 in 1989 to $104,480 in the 2015-16 academic year, per Forbes.
Every R Boomer you know “No way, that would be socialism!”
RedReformed spews:
Even with inflation $26,902 would be only be $65,810.20 today.
