Drinking Liberally — Seattle

by Darryl — Tuesday, 4/4/23, 5:52 pm

DLBottle DLBottle Big political news today. You know, the Wisconsin elections. We should be able to find stuff to talk about tonight when the Seattle Chapter of Drinking Liberally gets together for political discussions and good cheer over drinks.

The Seattle Chapter of Drinking Liberally meets every Tuesday at the Roanoke Park Place Tavern (2409 10th Ave E, Seattle) starting at 8pm either in the back room of the pub.

Chapters of Living Liberally are all over the place…if you can’t make it to the Seattle chapter, there is probably another nearby chapter near you.

Liberals claimed control of Wisconsin’s high court in an election Tuesday, giving them a one-vote majority on a body that in the coming years will likely consider the state’s abortion ban, its gerrymandered legislative districts and its voting rules for the 2024 presidential election.

This is a transformation in that state, believe me. With redistricting we can gain control of the state leg and flip three House seats. And with expanded voting and ballot access we can send that fascist, dimwit bigot Ron Johnson into oblivion where he belongs.

And best of all, y’all can avoid talking about North Carolina and the upcoming overrides of the governor’s vetos.

Since his first year in office (2017) Democrat Gov. Roy Cooper has used his veto power a record number of times to keep GOP-pushed legislation from becoming law.
    …
Between the North Carolina Supreme Court flipping to red in 2022, coupled with their March decision to revisit a crucial redistricting case, and now Cotham’s switch with more possible coming from Democrats who are fed up with the “wokeness” – all of these things have been astonishing turns of events for a state that was widely predicted by some “political experts” not that long ago to gradually go from purple to blue with no turning back.

keep watching the District 8 state senate race; very tight. A GOP win gives them a 2/3 majority, enough to impeach and remove judges, elected officials, etc.

50.5-49.5% on the MJS site just now. 93% in.

Don’t forget, libbies, that it was Act 10 and overreach by teachers unions that got Walker elected in the first place. Maybe don’t do the same thing again, whatcha think?

HA’s dumbest twat referred to a woman with deep Democrat roots as a turncoat.

Here’s how a “turncoat” was created:

Rep. Cecil Brockman, a Guilford Democrat, said Democrats only had themselves to blame. He pointed to the barrage of criticism he and Cotham received from within the party last week, along with another Democrat, Rep. Michael Wray of Halifax County, when Republicans were able to successfully override Cooper’s veto of controversial gun rights legislation that repealed the state’s permit law for buying handguns. The override vote was the first time Republicans had successfully overturned a veto from the governor since 2018, and came down to absences by Brockman, Cotham and Wray. The fewer number of voting lawmakers translated to a lower threshold for Republicans to override the veto. With three absences, Republicans needed 71 votes, not 72. Brockman said he thought the reaction from Democrats and party officials had pushed Cotham to switch parties. He also said he knows how she feels, and doesn’t blame her “one bit.” “I think she just wanted to do what’s best for her district and when you’re constantly talked about and trashed — especially the way that we have been over the past few weeks — I think this is what happens,” Brockman told The News & Observer. Asked what he thought about Cotham’s decision resulting in a proper Republican supermajority, Brockman said Democrats should be more introspective. “I hope the (Democratic) party takes a strong look at how they react to people making the decisions that they make — they put themselves in this position,” Brockman said.

To dumb twat Queen YLB, this NC black bitch should just STFU and take it, like all minority Democrat women, when their party makes them unhappy and disrespects the people they were elected to represent.

Dumb twat’s gonna dumb twat. And nobody on HA does it better than our precious Queen YLB.

“BREAKING!!! the 9th Circuit just awarded Trump $121,962.56 in attorney fees from Stormy Daniels. Order just released. This in addition to the roughly $500k she already owes him.”

The Ninth Circuit has previously ordered that Daniels pay more than $530,000 to Trump stemming from the suit. The court, in separate determinations, ordered that Daniels pay Trump over $292,000 and $245,209.67 to cover Trump’s costs. Collectively, Daniels now owes Trump nearly $700,000.

Maybe the sweetest thing about dismantling the GOP is that they can’t see it happening as it happens. They get so high on their own supply they treat these reversals as huge wins. “Moving closer to the U.S. is not an easy decision for European leaders” given that in 2022, “China was the largest source of EU imports and the third largest buyer of EU goods.” But “U.S. – European Union relations have never been stronger” and “Europe has converged quite a lot to the position of the United States” on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, restrictions on exporting advanced semiconductors to China, and other issues.

It’s impossible to imagine this happening under Trump, and hard to imagine it happening under a DeSantis administration. Voters may not pay much attention to foreign affairs, but they’re extremely important, and that’s where Biden really shines. Replacing him with either of those guys in 2024 would cost the U.S. a lot in terms of its defensive alliances and general standing in the world.

A sizable percentage of non-aligned and “moderate” Republican voters have sought desperately for an explanation of the Trump 2016 victory that leaves them off the hook. We’ve seen it played out here in these pages for the last six years as JEB!ish KKKonservatives like the Shit-lord crybaby have jumped headfirst into PizzaGate and DERPSTATE bullshit.

So it stands to reason that a few “non partisan” New York jurors would be predisposed to listen sympathetically to a prosecutor describing a complex scheme to help steal an election.

    26,
The point needs to be taken.

Swing district Dems should not seek the shitty, lazy, easy political path by contrasting themselves against other Dems and our leaders.

But that has to be a two way street.

So other Dems and our leaders have to keep the public pressure on Republicans. What goes on in private is another matter. Parties normally impose discipline on wavering members within the ranks. But that needs to be done in private and with respect. Within reasonable limits we should not campaign against ourselves on divisive and emotional issues like guns or abortion.
