The Seattle Chapter of Drinking Liberally meets every Tuesday at the Roanoke Park Place Tavern (2409 10th Ave E, Seattle) starting at 8pm out on the back patio.

Chapters of Living Liberally are all over the place…if you can’t make it to the Seattle chapter, there is probably another nearby chapter for you.

    DWAC shareholder mtg adjourned today two minutes after starting. They needed approval by 65% of voting shares to extend Trump’s Russian lifeline. Share price down 16% today. But it is still trading above the liquidation payout price.

    Degen better hurry. The result of the vote will be announced Thursday.

I took an oath to the Constitution and MY proof positive reading of it is that if Donald J Trump who I and even Jesus bow down to isn’t granted a second term, and a third and fourth for all the hassle the first two were, then the whole thing is inconstitutional. The voting machine belongs to ME the people.

    I was for ranked-choice voting, that is until I lost.

    I know this was discussed earlier, but it worth bringing up again as it points out just how hypocritical Republicans are with regards to voting.

    The only election that isn’t “rigged”, “stolen”, or “fraudulent” are ones they win. All the others are where they lose are just crap. The events described @6 are further proof of that. When a Democrat is elected (the first in 50 years for that seat), that tells you your Republican brand is bad.

    Spare us the “victimhood”, you just have a crappy platform, run on something other than forced-birth, climate denier, white-nationalism and maybe you can win.

    All across the U.S. police departments are being told hire, hire, hire, hire, hire. Recruitment is falling short of goals, “planned” shits and staffing levels can’t be covered. Unions are applying greater and greater pressure to increase patrol coverage and put more and more police on the streets to respond to “stranger danger” 911 calls, traffic control for community events, and security for movie shoots.

    We need to let the natural demographics control and change the way we do policing in America. We need to convince Boomers to stop dialing 911 every time a kid lights off a fire cracker, skateboards too close to them, or flies a drone over their house. And we need to stop dispatching police to escalate petty noise complaints into officer involved shootings.

    It’s not going to get better if we don’t change the way police work is done. And a big part of that is going to mean taking the management and oversight of police away from police. If we let that continue it will only get worse.

    @9 They don’t believe in elections. They just go through the motions and put up a pretense because direct frontal assault on an entrenched government doesn’t work. (It didn’t work in Hitler’s beer hall putsch, either, and they seem to take lessons from him.) If they can subvert or steal an election they will. Lesson learned from 2020: They weren’t violent enough. Next time they’ll kick in the doors, seize the ballots, and declare themselves winners. More effective than official recounts or even fake audits, and much cheaper, too.

    @10 Just hardworking small-town (pop. 15,760) Iowa cops who can’t get a job with a real police department because they flunked the finals at the police academy trying to keep their community safe by pulling over a suspected impaired driver who happened not to be. Better safe than sorry, given everyone knows Iowa high school football players are drunken louts; they probably were themselves when they were his age a couple years ago.

    Dr. Oz is going to lose anyway, so he might as well throw away the MAGA vote. This doesn’t mean the 80% of Republicans who believe Trump’s election lies will vote for his Democratic opponent. But it might send them to therapists for treatment for depression.

    It highlighting a 2013 incident in which Democratic Senate candidate John Fetterman pulled a gun on a Black jogger he mistakenly thought committed a crime.

    The incident happened nine years ago when Fetterman was mayor of the Pittsburgh-area town of Braddock. He said he heard what he thought was gunfire, saw a man running away, chased him down with his shotgun and detained him until police arrived. The jogger, Chris Miyares, was found at the time to have committed no crime. He is now incarcerated for an unrelated crime, and he recently told The Philadelphia Inquirer that he both forgives and supports Fetterman.

    “The fact that Fetterman hasn’t made his doctors available, or anybody available, is pretty bad,” he added. “It flies in the face of the transparency that he has said was important to him since he first ran,” said Urban.

    Moobs McDroolski initially said he wouldn’t debate because Oz was being a big bad meanie to him. He was finally forced to admit, through his campaign, that he is unable to debate.
