I read this earlier today. My first thought was that had the military responded at 2:30 when asked, the retreat by the rioters would have been incredibly quick and none of this insurrection crap would have been alleged.
Capitol Police turned down repeated offers for help ahead of time, and the military stalled for close to three hours while things were happening.

It could, but it’s not likely to. Inflation is here and now, and unless the Fed is completely wrong, will be abating by the time BBB money trickles into the economy over a period of 10 years.]
Also, Cathie Wood and others argue deflation is still the real problem, and they might (I’m not saying they are) be right, as the structural causes of deflation in the economy will still be there after pandemic-induced bottlenecks and shifts in consumption patterns (from services to goods) fade away.

Get the latest skinny on the Sawant recall results at Handbill.US here.
Summary: Yes to recall leads by 1,993 votes. Seattle P-I says (here) there are ~2,600 ballots remaining to be counted, and Sawant would have to win 75% of them.
“That is a steep hill, but progressive voters are known for voting later, which means the bulk of the remaining votes could be in Sawant’s favor.” — Seattle P-I

Stock futures are positive tonight, further raising the hill that Doctor Dumbfuck has to descend to get his 10%-15% pullback. I knew better and did my buying last week.
How did I figure it out? The “Fed put” is still in place, they haven’t even started tapering. Still TINA to stocks (unless you’re happy with collecting 0.1% interest). And then word came that Omicron wasn’t putting people in ICUs. The market has resisted correction talk and scary headlines all year. I reasoned this time would be no different. Plus, corrections are nearly always associated with recessions, and there’s no recession in sight, nor reason for one (short of an asteroid strike). So, I figured the odds were very, very high this was just another transitory dip and stocks would go back up for the same reasons they went up in the first place, have stayed up, and have refused to go down. It will take a big boost in long-term rates for bonds to compete with stocks, but LT interest rates have been going down, not up. A big pullback here just didn’t make any sense.
Plus, I know that Doctor Dumbfuck doesn’t have any sense, therefore I should give no weight to what he says.

I get that “liberals vote late”, but that’s for your basic Seattle election, when the race is between someone far left and someone else far-far left. And liberals need time to decide whether to pick a candidate whose perspectives are four standard deviations from the mean or the candidate whose perspectives are six standard deviations from the mean, I get that.
But with the recall thing, what’s to think about if you’re a liberal? Whether to give Goldy something to write about for the next three days by dropping your ballot into the box at 7:55 p.m. tonite?
Not buyin’ it. The last batch of ballots will go 55-45 her way, and won’t measurably move the needle. Time to hit the bricks for the evil socialist Sawant.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@23 Apparently no more results coming tonight. Based on the P-I’s reporting, I wouldn’t write her off just yet, but the best she can hope for is to survive by a squeak. She’ll probably have a sleepless night.
The Stranger cogently deconstructed the arguments against her. Given my legalistic mind, I do think the recall election ought to be a jury verdict on the charges against her, not a referendum on her policies, but in reality there’ll be some of both depending on different voters.
I think if we’re going to punish Republicans for letting people into buildings, we have to sanction others for that too, or the argument loses its moral force. However, the punishment should fit the crime. The protesters Sawant brought into City Hall weren’t a howling mob.

Yesterday, took the bus down to Lakewood and hopped Intercity Transit 620 to Olympia. Really wanted to see Pierce Transit’s new electric buses in action. Was actually shocked to see the 620 still running, expected the Olympia-Pierce County service to be a casualty of Intercity Transit’s choice to go fare-free. An Idea that it may shock people that I’m against. To sustain current levels of service, even without a driver shortage, Metro would have to cut service by about 30%., or raise the sales tax, which is not an option. I believe Community Transit, when the voters there raised the sales tax .3% a few years ago, to 1.2%, it was a one-off. I believe Metro is at .9%.
I am more supportive of a concept used in Portland, Mount Vernon, and Bellingham called Fare Capping. When a rider has paid for a certain number of rides that equals the fare cap for a day, $5 in Portland, $3 in Mount Vernon, remaining rides are free for that day. It also can set a monthly cap.
Another reason I thought 620 would be a casualty of IT going fareless , is some of the state’s transit agencies charge more for out of district runs. Skagit Transit, Grays Harbor Transit, WTA, Mason Transit are examples of that, with Clallam Transit going one further. Route 123, Port Angela’s-Bainbridge Island, charges $10. I overheard a CTS driver and a passenger talking, and the driver said, if each bus got 10 riders per trip, the route covers it’s costs. At the time, Rt123 had two round trips a day, 6 days a week, with one on Sunday. Now it’s three round trips.
Roger Rabbit spews:
If there’s 2,600 uncounted ballots, that’s a turnout of 44.8% compared to 49.6% in 2015 and 58.8% in 2019, but those were November (although off-year) elections. The big drop from 2019 to 2021, just two years, seems more than a high-interest special election ought to account for. The 2,600 probably are ballots received this afternoon picked up from drop boxes tonight.
The published numbers would only include ballots counted before the deadline, because those results were posted at 8:03 PM.
The 2,600 would not include ballots still in the mail, and postmarked in time to be counted. There may be hundreds more votes, over and above those received but not yet counted, in the pipeline. If that boosts the number of uncounted ballots to 3,600, Sawant doesn’t need 75% of the still-to-be-counted votes, she only needs 55% of them.
King County’s website indicates drop box returns were 4,035 yesterday and 2,101 today, so it’s evident that a lot of voters did wait until the last 2 days to vote. And 64.5% of the total votes came in by mail. Given that 2-to-1 ratio, there could be over 10,000 ballots still in the mail.
It ain’t over ’til it’s over.

Well, as long as you heard it from unimpeachable sources…
C’mon, Railfan, game that out.
10 riders is, what $3.50 x 10 = $35 ? The bus driver alone probably costs close to $45/hr once you factor in salary and benefits. Then there’s all of the support staff salaries, the cost of the bus and its maintenance and fuel. Etc. Etc. Etc.
I bet 30 riders doesn’t cover costs.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@30 My 55% figure is incorrect. She would need 1,994 half of the 1,000 = 2,494 of 3,600 which is 69.25% of 3,600.

That story seems to have been displaced by election results reporting, but if that’s true, you can’t hold her accountable for what someone else did.
For what it’s worth, The Stranger addressed allegations that Durkan’s address was leaked to Socialist Alternative by stating that both they (The Stranger) and the P-I found Durkan’s address with internet searches.
It’s possible there’s more to that story than The Stranger published, but that enters the realm of speculation and/or conspiracy theory.

34)I said CTS charges $10 for adults on the Strait Shot(Rt123), as it is an out of county route. Makes only limited stops, Gateway TC in PA, Sequim, Seven Cedars, Discovery Bay(Connects with Jefferson Transit’s route from Quilcene to Port Townsend), Poulsbo, and Clearwater Casino before reaching the Bainbridge Ferry. Gets a diverse ridership, backpackers, medical appointments, doing the work Greyhound should be doing, and and even a few transferring to the Coho. CTS provides good customer service for them, especially if they were delayed at Hood Canal. During the summer, the 10:20am out of Bainbridge gets into PA just about the time the Coho is taking last passengers and vehicles aboard. I’ve seen CTS Supervisors escort those transferring to the dock to ensure they get aboard.
Another transit system I’m shocked to see running fare free is Twin Transit, although in there case it is only for December. Didn’t see there Green line bus from Centralia while I was In Olympia, wanted to start my trip back to beat Kraken traffic. Twin Transit serves Centralia and Chehalis,
Roger Rabbit spews:
The Stranger says, “King County elections said the current count doesn’t include ballots returned after noon or 1 pm today.” They also said KCE projects a 50% turnout, which means over 4,000 ballots were still in drop boxes or the mail, in addition to the 2,574 uncounted. They also recalled her history of overcoming election-night deficits (she was down 8% in 2019) and said the mood at her campaign headquarters is upbeat, with “some Sawant campaign folks continu[ing] to predict a win of 52% when all votes are counted.” And that we might not know until Thursday what the final outcome is.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@34 Public transit is subsidized. So are streets and highways. And nothing is more subsidized than gasoline if you factor in the costs of maintaining a military and fighting wars to preserve access to oil. You really suck at this.

@32 The Stranger argued she didn’t lead the protesters to Durkan’s house, she only followed them there and gave a speech once they were there, she didn’t even know the address.
You know this went to the state supreme court, right? Which found legal sufficiency to have Sawant answer to the voters on the charge of illegally disclosing the residential address of a protected individual.
Who gives a fuck what the Stranger thinks, Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit?
I don’t recall seeing photos of Sawant in the back of that crowd marching to Durkan’s home. She was leading that crowd.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@38 Doctor Dumbfuck also fails to factor in the cost savings to society of transporting 10 people on 1 bus instead of in 10 cars. Regardless of whether the bus driver’s salary is paid by taxes or fares, a bus with 10 passengers is more efficient, and uses less resources (steel, rubber, asphalt, fuel, etc.), and has less climate impact, than transporting those people with cars, even if they ride 2 per car in 5 cars.

Instead the court looped back to the oath of office allegation and petitioner’s claim that this could constitute a violation of her duty not to disclose “confidential information gained by reason of his or her official position for other than a City purpose.”
“Based on the facts alleged, we believe a voter could conclude that Sawant’s actions constituted a violation of the Seattle city code regarding confidentiality. This charge is legally sufficient.
This is entirely distinct from the state charge about disclosing the residential address of a protected individual within the state harassment statute.
The court tossed that.
