DLBottlePlease join us tonight for an evening of politics and conversation over a pint, as well as a toast to the end of America’s longest war, at the Seattle Chapter of Drinking Liberally.

The Seattle chapter of DL meets every Tuesday at the Roanoke Park Place Tavern (2409 10th Ave E, Seattle) starting at 8pm. We will be on the patio in the back. The kitchen is still closed, but feel free to bring your own dinner. Note that a COVID vaccination card and ID are required to enter the Roanoke.

    Rightwing liars are at it again, falsely claiming the U.S. military abandoned caged service dogs at Kabul airport. Why do Republicans lie so much? I think they do it out of habit.

    Among those peddling this lie are, no surprise, actor James Woods, a Trumper who keeps getting kicked off Twitter for lying.

    Interesting developments in the fight over Kansas City Southern. The Surface Transportation Board has rejected the CN proposal for a voting trust while their merger bid is considered. If Canadian National walks away from the merger, it will have to pay $1 Billion in cancellation fees. Canadian Pacific had an agreement, and with little overlap, the STB was going to approve the merger under older rules. At the last minute, CN came in with a bigger offer, but because of route overlap in Louisiana, will be reviewed under tougher rules the STB came up with for what would be the final round of MergerMania.

    Canadian National should look at the history of one of it’s predecessors, Illinois Central, and it’s merger with the Gulf, Mobile, and Ohio to see that a parallel merger is a bad idea.

    Greenburg, 19, was charged with felony first-degree attempted arson, felony first-degree assault and felony first-degree reckless burning. He is the stepson of former state Rep. Laura Ruderman, a Democrat who represented the 45th legislative district from 1999 to 2005, KIRO reported.

    Prosecutors accused him of being the masked assailant captured on video attacking Seattle bike officer Jose Jimenez from behind with a bat. The officer’s helmet was cracked through the foam lining.

    The attack happened after police declared a riot near Cal Anderson Park, space previously declared an autonomous zone and occupied by demonstrators this summer in the wake of George Floyd’s death while in police custody in Minneapolis.
