    Under the circumstances, unilateral disarmament doesn’t seem like a real good idea, given the very real possibility that some of these people may be nuts enough to start killing anyone they perceive to be “liberal.”

    Of course, the police are your first and best line of defense, and you should always call the cops when you’re threatened by some delusional stranger(s). A large dog with protective instincts is handy to have, too. But make sure you train it to not chase rabbits. Rabbits are friendly, and not your enemy!

    An 18-year-old black woman riding on public transit was stabbed to death by a stranger who didn’t say a word. It apparently was a random and unprovoked attack by a maniac. The suspect, a parolee with a violent past, is in custody.

    Now, if you wanna talk cross-fire deaths, let’s talk inner-city Chicago.

    A WBEZ analysis showed a startling trend: a greater proportion of the victims were children. Last year, 41 children under age 14 were killed or wounded in Chicago shootings. That’s nearly the same number as the previous three years combined.

    WBEZ producer Patrick Smith also discovered that of those 41 kids caught in the crossfire, there have only been three arrests. “Both the police and residents say people who know what happened don’t come forward,” Smith said.

    Not exactly. We “lost” two rightwing judges that weren’t in our pocket to begin with. And a Hawaii statute that applies to no one outside of Hawaii. No big deal.

    This 2-1 decision was authored by an 81-year-old retired judge who scraped up a second vote from a Dubya appointee. Looks like some judge-shopping went on here. No big deal; screwy decisions by 2 judges are easy to fix en banc.

    That’s what happened to this judge’s most notable previous Second Amendment opinion; and given this opinion’s heavy reliance on “originalist” and “natural law” fringe reasoning which is far removed from mainstream legal thinking and scholarhip, not to mention its allusions to 17th century English law articulated by Blackstone, there’s at least some chance the en banc court will view this opinion as more of a literary and historical essay than as an exposition of contemporary constitutional law. Given the amount of printer’s ink Judge O’Scannlain spilled on attacking the dissent, he appears to have anticipated as much.

    In any case, this decision doesn’t say state’s can’t regulate concealed or open carry, it only says Hawaii’s regulations are too onerous, which is not that big a deal. As Judge O’Scannlain wrote at p.58, “We see nothing in our opinion that would prevent the state from regulating the right to bear arms.” So, there’s really not much precedential impact here; you still have to evaluate every challenged state regulation on a case-by-case basis, just as before.

    So, here we have Doctor Dumbfuck cawing and flapping his wings like a crow on a wire, thinking somebody’s feeding him when all he’s getting is a birdbath full of stones.

    If you show me an x-ray or CAT scan, I have no idea what I’m seeing. When Doctor Dumbfuck finds a legal opinion, he has no idea what he’s seeing. The difference between him and me is I’m not a stupid bird.

    @13 Actually, I don’t agree with Goldy on that one. I don’t believe a gun can deter these militia types. That requires a capacity for rational thinking which is beyond them (see, e.g., the late LaVoy Finnicum trying to run over armed FBI agents, then pulling a gun on armed state troopers). My assumption is that liberals may have to actually defend themselves.

    The man allegedly threatened and assaulted Matta on Saturday about 7:30 p.m. while the mayor attended the annual Olde Burien Block Party. The GOP tax cut her opponent voted for is deeply unpopular, the head of the party is in serious crisis mode, GA has an African American Woman as a Gubanatorial candidate….

    I think Putin is just being smart about it. He’d like more opportunities to show America humping his leg to the world and especially his own people. But he’s smart to strongly suspect that given all the negative blowback PornSweat intended to use the next visit and time it for the mid terms. This tells us Putin either doesn’t care about the mid terms, or he is confident that the mid terms will work out for him.

    I’m worried it’s the latter. It will be much more difficult to detect and react to election hacking in 50 different spread out contests than it was during the last Presidential election.
