Now our right wing anti-government folks will take this one way. I will explain to you why another look is appropriate. These projects should have been bid in 2008-2009. The Federal government should have been pouring money into infrastructure. Read how now property costs are much higher. Compare costs of property to be condemned now to then. Construction materials- steel, copper, fuel and concrete were much cheaper. Contractors were bidding against each other, not to make a profit but to pay interest on their equipment and keep their best employees on board. I personally managed a government capital project at that time estimated at $60M (pre-recession) that came in $16M under budget. Why did we not do more? republican obstructionists refused to Give President Obama anything. And now they accuse democrats of being obstructionists!!
I expect the opportunity will come again after the next recession they cause.

@1 Repukes are a bunch of fuckwad assholes. Eve would have had an abortion if she knew what kind of fuckwads Repukes are.
Mark Adams spews:
@2 Eve never existed. And you are in New York why do you care about projects in the Pacific Northwest? You don’t like coming to Seattle every month or so. Actually you should support Republicans in ant supposed reduction to Seattle’s infrastructure, as that is your stated preference. You want the effect just you want others to take the blame,

Sometimes the dead win an election, so it’s 100% a woman will be Seattle’s next mayor. RR owes me a beer. Coin check.

No need to stand in for the meteor RR, don’t do it, you are just wrong.
Mark Adams spews:
@1 Ahh if Seattle only had the geography of Detroit, Michigan, odd Detroit is not building any light rail, but Detroit would kill to have these light rail issues. The motor city feels even more left out.
Or move Seattle to Sedro Woolley easy enough to put in all kinds of light rail and infrastructure. Yep a premier light rail system can be built dirt cheap. Heck there are some abandoned rail lines just waiting for new life along Northern Street.
DeathFrogg spews:
“It’s also an act of profound ignorance. For those with little understanding of and less regard for the Christian faith, there may be no greater image of prayer’s futility than Christians being gunned down mid-supplication. But for those familiar with the Bible’s promises concerning prayer and violence, nothing could be further from the truth. When those saints of First Baptist Church were murdered yesterday, God wasn’t ignoring their prayers. He was answering them.”
So, Christians pray for violent death? No wonder they’re such assholes all the time. No wonder they worship the machine gun the same way they do their “God”.
It certainly explains our resident lunatic.

It’s well past the point to admit that these treasonous ravings from ignorant, superstitious, shit-bag hillbillies are foreign directed agitprop not worthy of debate.
The “argument” is a simple one:
-Piddles, “‘“It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.’ is a great opening line to Catch 22.”
-real world, “Fuck off, traitor.”
I'llHaveAPilsner spews:
@5
Seattle has light rail and the ridership is beyond everyone’s hopes.
“Yeah, yeah, but people are just getting off buses and riding the choo choo instead.”
Full Metro system,
April ridership, up almost 10,000 from 2016
May, Higher than April and up over 5,000 from 2016
June, up almost 10,000 from 2016
July, up 7,000 since 2016
Simply put, there are more people riding all forms of KC Metro now than there were when U District station came online.
But certain factions still will tell you no one rides it or it’s only replacing buses.

I think we’re all old and have some blinders about ST3 because of the timeline but there’s something interesting.
We also talk about the influx of new money and young people driving up prices in Seattle. But about the time those mid 20s people are married, having the second child and seriously looking at moving to the suburbs the rail to these stations will be open or opening up.

Interesting article in 10/16/17 issue of ENR (Engineering News Record). For those that still carry blueprints in the back of the pick-up, its a magazine related to construction and engineering.
Page 7 – “Energy Interest at Odds Over DOE Proposal” by Pam Radtke Russell.
I’d link to it but I think you need to have a subscription to access the article, but give it a go – see if you can access it on your own.
Speaks about how some would prefer to Invest in the transmission and distribution infrastructure rather than subsidies operation of coal and nuclear plants, as a better way to make the electric grid more resilient and reliable.
The hearings, held on October 3rd and 5th, focused on a September 28th DOE directive ordering the FERC to write a rule to allow utility companies full cost recovery for nuclear and coal plants.
The article states nuclear and coal plants in wholesale markets are becoming unprofitable and being retired early because of competing lower forms of energy production – namely low-cost natural gas plants and renewable energy.
And Repukes love Nuclear Energy and Coal….hmmm, bunch of dumbfucks. Repukes don’t make decisions based on smarts, they have to stick to their guns, they can’t swallow their pride when they know they are wrong…they’ll go to great lengths just so they don’t have to eat their own words.
The Wisdom of PissCan spews:
Fast forward to 3-4 weeks later, to today’s issue received in the mail.
ENR Cover – Picture of a Nuclear Plant Cooling Tower. With the words “On Life Support”
“With U.S. prospects limited, nuclear power construction turns to plant decommissioning, new technologies and work abroad.
I didn’t read the article yet.
And if you go back a few months – many articles on major issues with the building of nuclear plants (I think SC and Tennessee) – cost and time overruns.
But Repukes – they love their nukes (and coal). You never hear of any Repukes complaining about the wasted money of this type of investment.
Get with the program you dumbfucks!

What goes on in any given jury room is an utter mystery. But deliberations in the Menendez trial are not going well. Prosecutors prefer nice clean, efficient deliberations where obedient citizen jurors who trust the state give just enough deference to the conventions of due process to get their free meals and one or two nights in a good hotel before delivering a guilty verdict.
At least one of these jurors is sending requests to the judge to have portions of the defense closing sent in to be read to the jury. May indicate that a battle is going on in there. They’re hung.
