Goldy is back and all’s right with the world again. Welcome home!
Roger Rabbit spews:
Not all the pundits are mystified by what’s happening in the GOP nomination race. Some see clearly what’s clear to be seen: The GOP’s grassroots are in full-blown revolt against the party’s elites and moneyed interests. This article by David Frum describes what’s happening.
http://www.theatlantic.com/mag.....lt/419118/
Roger Rabbit Commentary: 2016 is shaping up as a consequential and transformative election, because this is the year when Republican blue-collar voters stopped voting against themselves and stopped being sidetracked by “wedge” issues. It is the year when the GOP establishment could no longer get away with walking over their interests and concerns. This is the year of the Republican Earthquake, and Donald Trump is no flash in the pan. He is the face of the GOP’s Great Grassroots Revolt, an explosion that has been years in the making.
Ima Dunce spews:
A billionaire is the face of a “grassroots blue collar revolt”? No, sorry, this is face of a grassroots cornered animal that is in a terror of brown skin. Fear and lies always works with this crowd and then they become enraged when they don’t reach their goals of making this an oppressive theocracy run by whites.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@3 I wouldn’t be so quick to wave off David Frum’s assessment of the situation. He’s a veteran journalist, was a speechwriter for Dubya, and he knows what makes the GOP tick. If you haven’t read his article yet (that I linked to above), you should, because I think he’s onto something. If he’s right about what’s happening — i.e. the GOP party leaders are losing control of their voting base — that has very interesting implications, especially because these voters want some of the same things we want … Social Security and Medicare, health care, pensions, job security, etc. … which the GOP has failed to deliver. And they don’t like bankers, Wall Street, or big corporations any more than we do. Their revolt, which Trump is tapping into, might bring about some major changes in GOP positions. There’s more going on here than racism and bigotry, and despite its dark side, the GOP grassroots revolt might have some positive results.
Ima Dunce spews:
@4 Sorry, I don’t see it that way at all. Trump is the exact opposite of what they want. He says wages are too high for cripes sake. He offers no solutions. We have a working Democratic economy that was brought back from the Republican brink. Things can and will get better, but never for everybody. It’s like they keep looking for love in all the wrong places. They insist on doing what does not work. And Trump does not work.
Teabagged spews:
@4 everything you say that Frum is saying with respect to them wanting Social Security, etc…. Pretty much makes them a democrat. The only difference is they love the hate that comes along with Trump.
And I say that with the notion that the only group of individuals he really hasn’t yet degraded are gay people.
You see the handout should go to all the whiteys, not the lazy colored ones.

“You need to Christianize the land,” he stated. “We need to destroy these false religions, end of story. Hinduism is an evil, demonic, anti-Christ religion. It needs to be uprooted from the earth and it has no place in the world.”
“Yoga? Outlawed,” Shoebat continued. “And anyone who teaches yoga? Punished by the state … I think the U.S. government needs to crack down on this evil, demonic thing called yoga … You’re teaching yoga, have the SWAT team bust open the doors to that place and just arrest everybody.”

Geez, Darryl, I hope you’re not into yoga. Or a Hindu. Or a Buddhist. Or a Jew. Or an atheist. Or worst of all, a Professor. You might find that it’s your own batshit insane friend who you, Goldy and Carl give a platform to post hate-speech who’s leading the charge to round your asses up to force you all to become Christians.
Say, got any idea what they’d do to you if you were to refuse to go along with the program? It probably wouldn’t be very pleasant, would it?

I don’t know if it is because Barack Obama used his kids in that really long ad the night before the 2008 election, or because the WaPo cartoonist drew Cruz’ children as monkeys.
Which begs the obvious question:
Is it OK to attack grandchildren?

Roger Rabbit spews:
@5 You can’t see past Trump. I’m not endorsing Trump; and, for that matter, neither is Frum. He’s simply describing what’s happening to the GOP, and I’m simply saying it’s an important development when the GOP’s white, male, middle-aged, blue-collar voters are no longer willing to vote for the Wall Street/corporate agenda. You may not be thrilled by their choice of a candidate, but I’m thrilled these voters are finally paying attention to their economic self-interest and the GOP’s wedge-issue strategy is no longer working on them.
Sloppy Travis Bickle spews:

Well, that’s one way of looking at it, I suppose.
I think it will be a far more important development when it turns out that the Democrats’ white, male, middle-aged, blue-collar voters are not willing to vote for Hillary.

They go on to speculate that Chelsea is employing her uterus for political purposes. And I thought only Carly was allowed to do that.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@6 “everything you say that Frum is saying with respect to them wanting Social Security, etc…. Pretty much makes them a democrat.”
Democrats used to own the blue-collar vote. Most of those ex-Democrats aren’t around anymore; today’s blue-collar Republican has been a Republican his entire life. He voted against his own interests, and now he’s paying the price.
Trump used to be a Democrat, and despite all the campaign hoopla, he’s friends with the Clintons. Some of his platform looks much more Democratic than Republican. This doesn’t make him a good guy. He’s a demagogue who’s cynically exploiting banal prejudices and bigotry. He’s a terrible man and a candidate we must defeat at all costs.
“The only difference is they love the hate that comes along with Trump.”
I think it’s more complicated than that. Most of Trump’s supporters are less-educated working-class people who feel betrayed, under siege, scared, and angry. They’re a visceral, not intellectual, voting bloc. But they’re not terrible people. They believe in family, hard work, and patriotism. They’re not as open-minded or tolerant as we’d like, but they’re not robbers trying to take something away from someone else like the GOP grifter class is. They see their way of life being threatened by outside forces they don’t understand, and their political behavior is being driven by fear and confusion. Things aren’t going well for them, so they’re restless and unhappy.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@8 Liberals must arm, but only for self-defense, of course. I should’ve made this clear from the beginning. Until very recently, I didn’t think I needed to.

@24 “I think it will be a far more important development when it turns out that the Democrats’ white, male, middle-aged, blue-collar voters are not willing to vote for Hillary.”
Do the Democrats still have any of those voters? Maybe a better question is whether America still has any blue-collar workers.

Hell, even John McCain: “Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?” Why? “Because her father is Janet Reno.”

Then there was that whole white mans burden thing. All the old men living back in Britain missing their legs thing and more.
Mark Adams spews:
@10 I really don’t like it when candidates from either party imply the President of the United States has any ability to close any school. Simply is not true. Not even for the District of Columbia can the President do this. Maybe the school at RAF Croughton but only if the whole base is closed. Doubt our British friends want our hooligans in their school system.
Obviously it’s a feel good statement made by a politician during an election and that is about all it is. Lets assume though she could close all those less than average schools by Presidential fiat wouldn’t that surely mean the bar would be raised and some schools that were average or above average would now be below average. You would have to close them then.
It’s a math thing that sometimes is not for a nation where the women are strong and the children are all above average., Yep we are a math nation.
