We meet tonight and every Tuesday evening at the Roanoke Park Place Tavern, 2409 10th Ave E, Seattle. The starting time is 8:00 pm, but some folks show up before that for dinner.



Can’t make it to Seattle tonight? Check out one of the other DL meetings this week. Tonight the Tri-Cities chapter also meets. The Lakewood chapter meets on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Tacoma chapter meets.

There are 178 chapters of Living Liberally, including fifteen in Washington state, four in Oregon and two in Idaho, so chances are excellent there’s a chapter meeting somewhere near you.

    Growing student loan debt might just be a topic too complicated to be adequately addressed in a holiday weekend tweet.

    The spartan approach to graduation is unlikely to win fans among students who want an array of courses or the professors who teach them. Placing students on a narrow path to graduation could also deprive them of the chance to explore subjects that don’t neatly fit into their major.

    But at a time when graduation rates have slumped and the cost of attending college has reached stratospheric heights, it’s hard to argue against more streamlined programs—and a return to four years as the norm again for college.

    Well, OK, Rujax.

    If you want to describe other similarities you could point out that both Martin and Brown had marijuana in their bloodstream at the time they were killed. Both Zimmerman and Wilson were struck in the head during their respective confrontations. Both Martin and Brown may have made very bad choices that led directly to their deaths.

    The very large difference between Martin and Brown is that there exists video evidence that Brown committed a robbery using physical force minutes before his encounter with Wilson – we clearly saw how he was capable of behaving. A majority of the witnesses saw Brown reaching into the patrol car, and not being pulled in. So he was an aggressor there as well. (To be fair, a majority of witnesses also saw Brown with his arms raised, which doesn’t help Wilson’s account much at all – that’s your best argument.)

    Brown/Wilson was broad daylight with numerous witnesses. Martin/Zimmerman was at night with no witnesses really having a clear look at what happened.

    Brown/Wilson had multiple witnesses change their stories when confronted with physical evidence to the contrary. I don’t recall witnesses so thoroughly revising their story with Martin/Zimmerman – the only story revisions were by the media.

    There’s a lot that isn’t known, still, about Martin/Zimmerman because of the lack of witnesses who clearly saw what happened (the guy who said Martin was using MMA-style tactics on Zimmerman may be an exception but as I recall his view wasn’t great).

    Brown/Wilson was witnessed by numerous people. That’s a really big difference. Brown had commited strong-arm robbery immediately before his confrontation with Wilson. That’s another really big difference.

    Finally, your link @3 continues to maintain that Brown was a ‘gentle giant’, clear video evidence to the contrary. He was a large man who committed a strong-arm robbery and man-handled a guy who looks to be about half his size while doing it. You really should have picked a reference that isn’t so fawning over a guy who died very shortly after committing an intentionally criminal act. In addition, the photo of Martin in that link was taken when he was significantly younger, possibly as young as 11 (Snopes). I’m sure Brown looked real cute and boyish at a significantly earlier point in his life, too.

    Sorry, Rujax. I think you should make an argument that doesn’t rely on garbage like boyhood photos and eulogies from friends of the deceased.
