We meet tonight, and every Tuesday evening at the Roanoke Park Place Tavern, 2409 10th Ave E, Seattle. The starting time is 8:00 pm, but some folks show up before that for dinner.

When you get right down to it, though, puddypissypants is idolizing a fake hero, because John Wayne wasn’t all that much of a man. He was only a popular actor playing heroic roles. He spent his entire life pretending to be something he wasn’t. He never served in the military, never was a cowboy (he got his start as a Hollywood prop boy), and his only experience of an actual gunfight was when his wife tried to shoot him because she thought he was cheating on her. He was a skirt-chaser and womanizer who had affairs, went through three wives, and was a heavy drinker who was described by associates as a “mean drunk.” His vaunted “patriotism” also was a put-on; it didn’t come from thoughtful reflection or grueling experiences, but from guilt feelings over having skipped military service when his contemporaries were fighting World War 2. He was a manufactured image who didn’t even use his real name.
