Two Heroes You Never Heard Of
On September 11, 2001, two Air National Guard pilots, Marc Sasseville (now a brigadier general) and Heather Penney (now an Air Force major), took off in unarmed F-16 fighters on a suicide mission to stop United Flight 93 before it reached Washington. Their battle plan? Lacking weapons to shoot down the airliner, their only option was to ram the jetliner with their jets, and kill themselves in the process. They were going to do it. They didn’t have to because the heroic passengers aboard Flight 93 brought down the plane themselves.
