NBC News reports an epidemic of severe birth defects in Yakima with dozens of cases of anencephaly and spina bifida. Agricultural pesticides are a prime suspect.

Yakima is GOP country, so here’s how they’ll deal with the problem:
1. Don’t make farmers stop using dangerous pesticides.
2. Don’t let the news media blame the problem on agricultural pesticides.
3. Don’t provide funding to public agencies responsible for investigating the problem.
4. Make sure the problem isn’t investigated.
5. Don’t test wells or other water sources.
6. Identify a suitable scapegoat by conducting a superficial investigation.
7. Blame the victims, i.e. accuse mothers of deformed children of being “bad mothers.”
8. Don’t allow these mothers to abort their deformed children.
9. Don’t provide any welfare, medical care, or other support to these mothers or their deformed children.
10. Instead, tell mothers of deformed children to attend church more.

A former U.S. Army soldier convicted of an atrocity in Iraq has committed suicide. Steven D. Green was serving life without parole for raping a 14-year-old Iraqi girl, and murdering her, her
6-year-old sister, and her parents. When things like this happen in a war zone — and they always do — there will always be rightwing scumbags on the homefront defending Americans who commit atrocities and threatening the lives of whistleblowers who “squeal” on their buddies. That was the case here, too. At last report, the soldier who turned in Green and his fellow rapists/killers had left the Army, and was living in an undisclosed location because of death threats he says he has received.

What is really sad is that the church could have moved a long time ago to help the molested and persecute the molesters (instead of the other way around) and would most likely have avoided the massive punitive law suits, especially if they had included the molested and their families in the clean up process.
