I’d heard rumor about radioactivity coming to the U.S. coast after the meltdown of three Fukushima reactors two and a half years ago, but I hadn’t realized that the radiation made it to the western U.S. in quantity.

The agreement between BC Transit and the Resort Municipality of Whistler is that Whistler Transit(which BC Transit operates on Whistler’s behalf), is they keep them until 2014. Some are suggesting that if Victoria does not keep the funding coming, the buses could be replaced. Turns out that the Hydrogen is shipped in from Quebec. One opponent of this type of bus the union that represents BC Transit mechanics, saying the money could be used elsewhere.

I think Republicans are badly misreading the situation. Yeah, holiday flying is a major pain, but that doesn’t mean families will stop getting together for Thanksgiving, or prefer driving to flying. Likewise, Obamacare’s rollout has problems (we all know that; no need to keep banging on the garbage can lid), but that doesn’t mean the public wants to go back to the old system of pre-existing condition exclusions, arbitrary claim denials, insurance company death panels, and the ever-present threat of medical bankruptcy. Most people would rather have fucked-up holiday air travel than no travel, and fucked-up healthcare reform than no health care. Something is always better than nothing, and you can always work to smooth things out as you go along — that’s how most things get done, most of the time. If we listened to conservatives, we’d still be living in caves, and spending this holiday week with growling stomachs and chipping away at stones to make spear points. That’s why Obamacare’s startup pains won’t turn into electoral victories for those who want to lead us backward to the 19th century. Voters aren’t going to hand over our government to people who wouldn’t know what to do with a government if they got one. We’ve already been down that road, and we’ve seen it doesn’t work.

Could you give us an affirmative argument for the plan you like, so that we could have a spirited conversation about which direction is better for the country?
