Drinking Liberally — Seattle

by Darryl — Tuesday, 1/17/12, 5:06 pm

It’s Tuesday, and that means it’s time for another evening of politics under the influence. Lot-o-stuff to discuss…the fourth consecutive poll showing McKenna leading Inslee (an analysis is forthcoming), the Walker recall signature drive, the Washington legislative session, the big storm tomorrow—either snow storm or internet brown-out shit-storm, your choice—and, of course, the Republican reality show….

Please join us this evening at the Seattle Chapter of Drinking liberally. We meet every Tuesday at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Avenue E. Starting time is 8:00 pm, but a few folks show up earlier for a quiet dinner.

And now a word from our sponsor:

Can’t make it tonight? The Tri-Cities chapter of Drinking Liberally meets every Tuesday night, and Drinking Liberally Tacoma meets this Thursday.

With 230 chapters of Living Liberally, including twelve in Washington state and six more in Oregon, chances are excellent there’s one near you.

Watching the debate over the Stop Online Piracy and the Protect Intellectual Property Acts it seems you can can break it down like this: younger, browner, people that understand the web and are part of companies that are doing well are against it, stuffy, old, white people, who’s business models are failing and want it to be 1964 forever, are for it.

Bain Capital made a fortune investing in a company HATED by foaming at the mouth anti-choice fanatics:

And the Romney family did not turn up their noses at the loot:

The deal was good for Bain too. According to an investment prospectus from December 2003, the return rate that Bain received on its investment in Stericycle was approximately 66 percent, or 49.5 million dollars.

Romney had become governor of Massachusetts by then. But according to financial disclosure reports flagged by American Bridge and a review of SEC data, both he and his wife maintained investments in Bain Capital funds, including ones that had the Stericycle stock.

Cops — never friends of dissent — are turning up the heat on Occupy protesters by charging them with lynching, a serious felony.

That’s right, lynching. If you step off a curb into the street in L.A., you’ll be arrested for lynching.

This is what a real lynching looks like:

And this is what a LAPD lynching looks like:

So far, prosecutors aren’t buying it, but who knows how long that’ll last.
