Drinking Liberally — Seattle

by Darryl — Tuesday, 1/3/12, 3:34 pm

Please join us tonight for our first 2012 evening of politics under the influence at the Seattle Chapter of Drinking Liberally.

Tonight is also the first of the Republican nomination contests. I’ll be there way early, for some liveblogging. I should be there shortly after 5:00 pm. So stop by early if you wish, or just swing by at our normal starting time of 8:00 pm.

We meet at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Avenue E.

Can’t make it to Seattle? The Tri-Cities chapter of Drinking Liberally meets every Tuesday night, and Drinking Liberally Tacoma meets this Thursday.

With 231 chapters of Living Liberally, including twelve in Washington state and six more in Oregon, chances are excellent there’s one near you.

He says the unnamed “they” seem “to be unaffected” by the corporate collapses they cause. These psychopaths “present themselves as glibly unbothered by the chaos around them, unconcerned about those who have lost their jobs, savings and investments, and as lacking any regrets about what they have done. They cheerfully lie about their involvement in events, are very convincing in blaming others for what has happened and have no doubts about their own worth and value. They are happy to walk away from the economic disaster that they have managed to bring about, with huge payoffs and with new roles advising governments how to prevent such economic disasters.”

Wow that describes (in part) some of our trolls!

Talk about the comment from the idiot ranger who somehow believes that IF the Republicans would ban all guns in National Parks that the Ranger shot at Rainier would have been saved. What an idiot. As if that desperate young man would have said “Gee, there is a law against guns in the Park, I guess I won’t bring it in”!!
    Yeah right. Gee whiz.
How stupid are these Government Employees??

    # 5: A National Park Service ranger is a “first responder”. It’s in poor taste to refer to him as an “idiot” shortly after one of his colleagues was shot dead while she was trying to stop a suspect.

Sure, some people are going to ignore a gun law, whether it’s in a national park, a city, or on a farm.

But the difference is that if having the gun is illegal in the park, an incidental stop of the suspect might reveal the gun and allow the rangers to take it away and arrest the person before he has a chance to use it. But if carrying the gun in the park is legal, then they can’t do a thing about it, even if they suspect he’s up to no good. They have to let him on his merry way, gun and all, and wait for the crime to be commited.

I must have missed that comment. I saw a few comments stating the opposite of what you’re claiming.

I also saw a bunch of comments where male News Tribune readers engaged their John Wayne fantasies about how if they had been there with their guns they would have protected the poor helpless little lady and things would have turned of differently. What nonsense. That “little lady” was a cop, with all the training that comes with being a cop, a gun and a bullet proof vest. There was another cop on the scene who had to back his car out of the shoot out with it’s windows blown out.

I’m not discounting the use of firearms for self defense, but some people need to put away their fantasies and come back to real life.

@7 War provides a pretty good laboratory for figuring out what happens when two antagonists with guns start shooting it out.

While I was in Vietnam, an infantry captain told me the exchange ratio in small-unit combat was about 1:1, i.e., “one of ours for one of theirs.”

In World War I, Germany achieved the extraordinarily high exchange ratio of 1.3:1, which nearly won the war for them.

The reality is that in a gunfight the casualties will be about equal on the two sides.

What really blew my mind was how they thought an armed cop was a “helpless little lady.”

Ah… You must have meant this:

Leader of Park Service retirees laments federal law for loaded guns in parks

SEATTLE — The fatal shooting of a Park Service ranger at Mount Rainier National Park has renewed debate about a nearly two-year-old federal law that allows loaded weapons in national parks.

    Precisely.
    This idiot Ranger Wade–

Sunday’s fatal shooting of a Park Service ranger Margaret Anderson could have been prevented, said Bill Wade, a former superintendent of Shenandoah National Park, just outside Washington, D.C., who started his career as a professional ranger at Mount Rainier.

“The many congressmen and senators that voted for the legislation that allowed loaded weapons to be brought into the parks ought to be feeling pretty bad right now,” said Wade, whose term as chairman of the Coalition of National Park Service Retirees ended Dec. 31.

    What an idiot.
As if the murderer would have followed the rule.
Despicable political act by a complete idiot trying to capitalize on a horrible tragedy.
    Wade is an IDIOT!
