TRENTON, N.J. (AP) – The SUV carrying Gov. Jon S. Corzine was traveling about 91 mph moments before it crashed, Superintendent of State Police Col. Rick Fuentes said Tuesday.
The governor was critically injured when the vehicle crashed into a guardrail on the Garden State Parkway just north of Atlantic City last week. He apparently was not wearing his seat belt as he rode in the front passenger’s seat.
The speed limit along that stretch of the parkway is 65 mph.
The state trooper-driven sport utility vehicle was in the left lane with its emergency lights flashing when a pickup tried to get out of its way. Instead, it set off a chain reaction that resulted in the crash.
Corzine’s list of injuries was extensive: He broke his left thigh bone, a dozen ribs, collarbone and chest bone. He also fractured a vertebrae in his lower back.
He remains in critical but stable condition Tuesday and doctors were assessing when he might be ready to breathe without a ventilator.
Doctors have said he doesn’t have brain damage or paralysis, and is doing well for someone who sustained so many injuries.

What about the lying speeding Democrat Governor of New Jersey, Jon S. Corzine? He was injured last week in an automobile accident, and blamed it on a hit-and-run driver in red pick-up truck. As it turns out, Corzine is just another worthless Democrat liar. His car was driving 91 m.p.h. in a 65 m.p.h. zone. Corzine, like many other Democrat elitists, believes that he doesn’t have to follow laws that they have made for the ordinary citizens. Drivers in the left lane were frantically trying to get out of Corzine’s speeding car, which had its emergency lights flashing. And that is what caused the accident.
If Corzine ever gets out of the hospital, he should apologize to the people of New Jersey and resign. If Don Imus should be fired because of poorly chosen words, then certainly Corzine should be forced out of office because of what he has done. I hope that no innocent people were injured because of Corzine’s reckless disregard for public safety.

I think that the U.S. Justice Department should pursue felony civil rights charges against Governor Corzine and his driver. This was a clear misuse of the “emergency vehicle” authority, and caused property damage, if not minor physical injuries, to several innocent motorists. And it will serve as a good lesson to other public officials who wish to abuse their authority in such a reckless and extreme manner.
How can any driver go 26 m.p.h. over the speed limit on a busy highway, and not have any idea how fast they were going? Especially a state trooper! Has the fellow ever given anyone a speeding ticket? Typical officer narrative to the effect: “I visually observed Vehicle X traveling southbound on Road Y considerably above the speed limit. I activated my radar, etc.” You don’t have to look at the speedometer to know that you are WAY in the wrong when traveling so fast!
And how can a passenger not realize that they are going WAY over the speed limit? Going 26 m.p.h. over, they had to be literally flying past the other traffic!
I have no doubt that the trooper was going so fast at the direction of Governor Corzine. If that is the case, Corzine should resign from office, if he ever become healthy enough to again resume the duties of that office.
Does Mrs. Gregoire have her state trooper driver speed like that? I hope she doesn’t. But if she does, I sure hope that no innocent people are injured if Mrs. Gregoire causes an accident by blatantly disregarding traffic safety laws.

They are thrilled that the Supreme Court has just said that government has the authority to make that decision, overruling both the best medical judgement of the doctor and the wishes of the woman.

Ginsburg said the latest decision “tolerates, indeed applauds, federal intervention to ban nationwide a procedure found necessary and proper in certain cases by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.”
So, you feel that government knows better than doctors what procedures are medically necessary. Justice Ginsburg is “a fucking embarassment” because she understands that her expertise is in the law, not in medicine.
What next? Outlawing blood transfusions? Transplants? Artificial joints? Appendectomies? Vaccines? Antibiotics? There are groups that consider each of these things to be sinful, and against “the will of God”.

MTR makes a very compelling candidate for a very late-term abortion. He has the intellectual capacity of a fetus, without any of the potential that a fetus has. I think that doctors and their patients should decide what medical procedures are necessary. I think that I have no right to make that decision for them. Simply because a medical procedure is distasteful does not mean that I have the expertise needed to decide when it is and is not the best medical option.
I also think that most of the people applauding this decision do not differentiate between the intact dilation and extraction procedure and the RU-486 pill, and are equally opposed to both. They are simply using this one procedure in an effort to get a Supreme Court ruling that Congress may use the force of law to overrule the best medical judgement of a doctor of medicine.
Now that this has been confirmed, the next step is to outlaw all abortions. While they will probably do this one step at a time, they will not stop until it is impossible to get a legal abortion in the United States for any reason.

I just visited the link MTR provided about partial birth abortions. I must admit I was rather moved by the images.
When MTR says they stab a pair scissors into the baby’s skull he’s not kidding. Then, they spread the scissors to create a bigger hole and then suck the brains out of the skull to collapse the head and make it easier to extract the fetus.
After seeing this with my own eyes I completely understand MTR’s position against this procedure. I know we poke fun at MTR, myself included, for being so conservative, but, now I understand why he’s so upset by this. Should abortion be permissible up until the point that a baby is naturally delivered? Should abortion be permitted, for example, right after a woman’s water breaks and she is in labor contractions, but the baby hasn’t been delivered yet?
This question may sound almost unconscionable, but there would be a demand for abortions in such circumstances. There are a number of women every year who are in denial about their pregnancies, even up to delivery and beyond. Many women conceal their pregnancies and kill or abandon their newborn. The law treats such a woman as a murderer if she actively kills her newborn baby or leaves the baby in circumstances where death occurs as a probable result of the abandonment.
Historically, this problem has been considered serious enough that there used to be special laws punishing women who concealed pregnancy and childbirth and had their babies die as a result. Under older laws, this was treated as murder (without needing actual proof that the mother actually caused the newborn child to die), and the woman was punished by being burned (which was considered more cruel than hanging). Burning went out of favor by the 19th century, and such laws were changed to require proof that the woman had caused the death of the child.
However, we have advanced medical techniques, that we did not have back in the 18th century or 19th century. A “fetus” can be safely “aborted”, with relatively little prospect of damage to the mother’s health, right up until the very eve of natural delivery.
There is certainly a strong potential demand for such “late term abortions”. And there are some “doctors” whose consciences would not be bothered by performing them. Why should we interfere with the private choices of a woman and her “doctor”?

Setting aside our squeamishness about gruesome things visible to the naked eye, from a theological and moral point of view there’s no difference between crushing the head of a baby that’s near to being able to survive outside the womb and dissolving a small collection of cells a few hours or days after conception.
The “partial-birth” issue is more a political artifice than a defined medical procedure. No doubt this decision will be followed by further poster-child cases in which the definition of the proscribed procedure will be “clarified” to include in its definition most if not all techniques for terminating a pregnancy.
Personally I’m opposed to abortions, especially as a routing means of birth control. However, I still don’t the legal system of the secular state (and yes, contrary to the wingnuts’ bullsit about this being a “Christian nation”, that’s what we have) is well-suited to dealing with the problem.
Go ahead and accuse me of being a “wuss” on the issue. I still think most people playing the abortion card on the political stage are pulling an even worse cop-out. They go get a law passed, foist the problem off onto someone else and congratulate themselves for what a wonderful thing they’ve done. I’ll now proceed to alienate a lot of people on the left and state that I think the “crisis pregnancy centers” that try to persuade women with inconvenient pregnancies to take them to term. Instead of hollering “Let’s punish the baby-killers”, to go to the mother and say “Don’t kill your baby” is the more moral and courageous course of action. Of course, to say, “Give me your baby” would be even more admirable…
My faith teaches me that abortion is wrong. It also teaches me that the death penalty and most war is equally wrong. To oppose one and advocate for another is hypocrisy. Seems to me Jesus had a pretty dim view of that.

Abortion should be legal until an individual reaches the age of reason. The capacity to reason, of course, is what distinguishes humans from animals. So, until a human reaches such capacity, and as long as killing animals remains legal, abortion until such time is appropriate. Naturally, given that Republicans fail to ever achieve the capacity to reason, aborting them at anytime should be permitted.

I’m all for doing every thing we can to persuade women carrying healthy foetuses to carry them to term, and then to do everything possible to provide that each and every one of those children enjoys a happy childhood and a long and successful life.
