Congratulations on finding a typo from the middle of George Herbert Walker’s administration. I’m sure this this typo, that if it was human would be able to vote, stacks up against the state of Hawaii saying he was born in that state, and showing his records. It stacks up against the birth announcements and the recollections of people who were there. I’m sure in your mind this is incontrovertible proof that Obama was born in Kenya.
But here’s the thing: even if he was born in Kenya*, he’s still a natural born citizen. You see, because of the 14th amendment, everyone born in the United States is an American citizen. That is not the only way you are a citizen at birth though — if it were, nobody would have been a natural born citizen until after the Civil War. Having an American mother who still holds her passport is fine. Unless your next step is to prove that his mother wasn’t an American**, this whole thing is moot.

But logic has never been part of the argument. The argument is that Obama, by virtue of being black, isn’t “qualified” to be President. Sure, they can’t come out and give that as the reason. Instead, they attack his citizenship, his academic credentials (implying that he didn’t really “earn” his way to Harvard Law Review, he got there through Affirmative Action, insted). It’s just an attempt to give the knuckle-draggers an excuse to “legitimize” their prejudices.
Heres the thing from my perspective.
1: If one claims to believe that Barack Obama was born anywhere but Hawaii, I will automatically dismiss any argument one makes about anything from the point where I figure that out.
2: If one claims that a woman cannot be trusted to make her own decisions about her own life and physical health, I will automatically dismiss any argument one makes about anything from the point where I figure that out.
3: If one claims there is a massive effort on the part of undocumented immigrants to influence elections through some sort of fraud, I will automatically dismiss any argument one makes about anything from the point where I figure that out.
4: If one claims to believe that all our Governments financial problems stem from the poor getting welfare or buying houses that they could not afford, I will automatically dismiss any argument one makes about anything from the point where I figure that out.
5: If one claims to believe that our nation’s social issues stem from some ephemeral homosexual, liberal press or radical environmentalist agenda, I will automatically dismiss any argument one makes about anything from the point where I figure that out.
The reason being, is the fact that such an individual is not speaking from the standpoint of education or acumen within a particular subject, but insubstantial belief that has no factual information to support it. It means the individual is either: outright lying, is seriously delusional or is seriously mentally ill, and as such cannot be taken seriously as an cognizant processor of relevant information.
In the latest paroxysm of rightwing craziness Arizona Republicans are threatening to keep Obama off their state’s ballot unless Hawaii coughs up (kaff kaff) his long-form birth certificate (which has already been released).
