But… in Jindal’s defense, he does start off this anecdote by saying “let me tell you a story.” So I suppose he could claim he never intended it to be interpreted as nonfiction.

Say that Jindal was named James, was white, and a Democrat. Is it only under those circumstances that it would be O.K. to jump all over somebody who went on national television and told a story that was demonstrably false?
TPM alluded to my thoughts earlier. Why, if you have good ideas or policies to tell the American people, do you have to tell a lie to get it across? Would Jindal’s speach have been more or less interesting without the annecdotal embellishment (errr….LIE!)? Not really. But by telling the lie, the whole thing is discredited.

Here is a hint cynical, using lies to “refute or rebut” the President won’t work. It ruins the credibility of the speaker and what they are trying to say. The fact that Jindal had to stoop to a lie shows how little real intellectual argument he has.

Too bad you all are wrong. Jindal wasn’t in New Orleans the day after the hurricane, but he was the day after that, when the levees gave way and flooded the city. (Yes, the damage was caused by corruption in a Democratic regime cutting corners on public projects, not by the hurricane.)
Reporting in the days after the storm was awful. Remember when the hysterical mainstream media types were shouting about bodies piling up in the sports stadium? Turned out to be hogwash. What about the reports of gunshots at rescue crews? Nothing to that either.
So, not having a report that Jindal was not in the area does not mean he wasn’t, just that it wasn’t reported. Why not ask someone who was there?

No one on this forum has implied he wasn’t in the state. I don’t care if he was or wasn’t. He WAS NOT, now by his staff’s admission, ANYWHERE NEAR Sherriff Hill’s office at the time the story allegedly took place.
TPM has a further good post on this. We, myself included, often hear a great or funny story that happened to someone and later retell it like, say, over drinks, as if we are the subjects. But few are so stupid to tell a fake story on National Television.

If a fake story was told on TV by Governor Gregoire, would no one jump on it ’cause she’s white? Sounds preposterous doesn’t it? But that’s how you sound. Totally and utterly preposterous!

I have heard that that if you place electrodes into a monkey’s brain so that when they press a button their pleasure center is stimlated, they will sit there and press that botton over and over again to the exclusion of everything else. In a cage with plenty of food, they will starve because they’re pressing the button and ignoring the food. Sex means nothing to them as long as they can press the button. In fact, if you turn off the stimulation they’ll still sit there and press the button, hoping for one more buzz.
