It’s estimated that there’s still about $5 trillion worth of “toxic waste” derivatives floating around the financial “system”. The trillion or so that the banks were handed last year (between the first installment of Paulsen’s Rich Peoples’ Soup Kitchen and what Bernanke shoveled out of the Fed) was supposed to go toward them retiring that stuff, which they apparently didn’t do. In fact, since nobody even asked the banks to, they’ve provided no accounting of just what the hell they’re holding. Maybe they really don’t know.
What has been done with the bailout money, is that it’s been used by the banks to buy each other, so now we have a smaller number of even larger broke banks, run by the same incompetent, greedy schmucks who got us into this mess after the Bush administration gave them free reign to do whatever they wanted. Apparently the Republicans in Congress don’t have a problem with tossing them another trillion or two, but heaven help the Republic if we should do something so horrible as apply Federal resources to keeping ordinary people gainfully employed.
Obama may have made a serious mistake keeping Robert Gates on as SecDev. Gates appears to have spend most of his time since the “changing of the guard” building a case for starting a war against Iran, even as his new boss is preparing a new diplomatic initiative to cool things down between our two countries.

Our movement is still somewhat nascent. So I believe most of our efforts should be at the grassroots building the movement so it’s truly a force to be reckoned with at the national level.
But then why should we go out of our way to tear down leadership? The right wing is already doing enough for them and us put together. I’d rather say fuck you to the right wing and quietly go about changing leadership for the better.
