Shudder of the day: What if the Koch brothers, who are shouldering into the newspaper biz big-time (in order to control the editorial content of our news sources), bought the money-losing Fairview Fanny from the overextended Blethen family?

The editorial pages are just somebody’s opinion – no better or worse than anybody else’s opinion.

3)If it was just the opinion pages, there would be no problem. The problem, is when they try to do every story with a slant. Although, in the book “It’s Even Worse Than It Looks”, written by two scholars, one from each side, they mentioned a good point, that in most cases, newspaper reporters, in the “News” section try to go out of their way to do both sides, because some still have editors that want it that way, even if the story does not have two sides.
Reminds me of the joke, that either President Obama or Conn O’Brien made last night, about CNN. CNN tries to cover all sides, just in case one of them happens to be true!

@4 “The problem, is when they try to do every story with a slant.”
No, the problem is what doesn’t get reported at all when the media are controlled by people with a political agenda. What are the chances that Romney’s “47 percent” remark would be reported in a Koch-owned newspaper? It would never see the light of day.
6
Ten Years Afterspews:
News flash: all media is biased and has one or more agendas. Doesn’t matter if it’s the BBC, CNN, FOX or whatever.

Republicans shouldn’t lecture us about spending. They just shouldn’t.
The Army doesn’t want, and can’t use, more Abrams tanks. But, “The nation’s only tank plant is in Lima. So it’s no coincidence that the champions for more tanks are Rep. Jim Jordan and Sen. Rob Portman, two of Capitol’s Hill most prominent deficit hawks ….” and both Republicans.
Roger Rabbit Commentary: Republicans aren’t serious about cutting spending or reducing deficits. (Does anyone need more proof than 2001 – 2009?) They’re only interested in cutting Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, unemployment benefits, and the kind of regulation that might have prevented the countless tainted food scandals of the Bush years or last week’s explosion in Texas. It’s all about whose spending is being cut. They’re only against the Democrats’ spending. Cut their own spending? Nahhhh. Not even if it’s useless and a total waste like these tanks.

6)Good point, anybody who does not like the way a story is reported will always call it biased. I see that in the comment threads on CBC news stories. Although I did see one good comment about a story CBC British Columbia did on the BC Liberals “NDP Truth-o-meter” about percieved costs of NDP Spending promises in next months provincial election. It was a “Reality Check” segment, and they debunked several claims of the BC Liberals, and one comment called it good journalism. It may be a two party race, between the Center-Left NDP and Center-Right BC Liberals by the way. The actual Conservative Party, is having problems with candidates, and had to let another candidate go this weekend, and the deadline for nominations was Friday, so they might not have been able to replace the latest one.
I only passed that along, just to be informative. Also, I accidentally landed on CBUT(The CBC Station in Vanvovuer, and in Seattle, it’s COMCAST Channel 99), and caught a commercial for the NDP. What I liked about it, was that the disclaimer. It went a little like this”This is ad is provided free of charge as a public service of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, during the BC election” I looked it up, the networks in Canada are allowed to give ads away free to political parties, provided they do it equally.

No one is serious about spending because nobody ever got re-elected by cutting spending in his or her state/district.

EvergreenRailfanspews:
10)I have learned that is true no matter what side of the border, and in any government that has districts to represent.(Some of the proportional systems I have studied over the years do not have districts. Israel, possible one of the worst cases for Proportional representation and electoral outcomes, has a single 120 seat national district)

@2, @3, @4 Keep in mind that after Sam Zell’s magnificently horrid mismanagement of Tribume Corp. virtually any new ownership would have to be an improvement. From the Kochs (at least from David) I’d expect at least a heavier emphasis on science news and more coverage of medical stuff, particularly cancer research.

Bullshit. It does matter. Only an ignoramus lumps BBC with Fox.

Be careful of what you wish for. It’s happened many times that just when it seems things can’t get worse, they get worse.
