It was one hell of a day to be in purgatory. Everything closed in western Washington, there was white stuff everywhere, the National Organization for Marriage threatens to primary some of Washington’s GOP Senators, the Obama administration announced they would reject the Keystone pipeline (for now), the House teabaggers are up to their bullshit again, the DCCC added Washington’s 1st and 10th CD to their list of 18 Red-to-Blue program, Kodak files for bankrupcy, and one of Newt’s ex-wives taped an interview that will be damning.
And all that time, HA was black.
Was it worth it?
Yes:
Members of the Senate are rushing for the exits in the wake of the Internet’s unprecedented protest of the Protect IP Act (PIPA). At least 13 members of the upper chamber announced their opposition on Wednesday. In a particularly severe blow for Hollywood, at least five of the newly-opposed Senators were previously co-sponsors of the Protect IP Act. (Update: since we ran this story, the tally is up to 18 Senators, of which seven are former co-sponsors. See below.)
Welcome back.
And let’s hope we never have to do that again!

Rick Larsen is among the House co-sponsors now jumping ship on SOPA/PIPA.

Meanwhile, in other news, Mittster has stepped in it big-time. First, he refused to release his tax returns before April, by which time he hopes to have sewn up the GOP nomination. Then, it leaked that he paid a tax rate of 15% on millions upon millions of income. How will that sit with middle class families paying 25%? Needless to say, he made it much worse by (a) being sneaky, and (b) having something to hide. The latest South Carolina polling shows that Mittster’s lead over Gingrich has been cut in half.

Obama didn’t reject the Keystone XL pipeline, he simply said Congress didn’t allow enough time to review it, and specifically stated that he wasn’t deciding on its merits. The pipeline most likely will be built, but it may have to be rerouted and/or redesigned. As proposed, it’s a potential threat to the Oglalla aquifer, which just happens to be the most important aquifer in North America.
Republicans who imposed a 60-day deadline for making a decision — which is totally unrealistic on a project of this size and complexity — are solely to blame for the delay in getting this project off the ground. And now, instead of cooperating with the administration, they’re going to delay it even more by attempting an end-run around the president. Just how do they plan to make that work with Democrats in control of the Senate?
If they really want that pipeline, they need to stop behaving like children, and let the engineers get to work on solving the design and environmental problems.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Republicans should make themselves useful by sticking Keystone in the next payroll tax/unemployment benefits extension when the current one expires next month, in order to stall the economy and make the stock market crash, so I can scoop up dirt-cheap stocks.

Santorum WINS in Iowa!
Wait. What?
Fricking ACORN Soshulist Mooslems are undoubtedly to blame!
ps. RR, hope you are long on popcorn this morning.

Eight precinct ballots missing? Looks like we know who Karl Rove favors, electoral shenanigans are among his favorite bag of tricks. But his estimates were wrong, he should have stolen a couple of more precinct’s votes.
But, of course, it won’t make any difference. It was the news headlines after the caucus, declaring Mitt Romney the winner, that mattered. That gave him the “momentum” to get through the rest of the early primaries.
rhp6033 spews:
Breaking News: Rick Perry has suspended his campaign, which throws the rest of the southern Evangelical Republican vote to Santoram. It’s a three-way race now: Romney, Gingrich, Santorum.
What is it with all the “suspended” campaigns? Can’t they just admit defeat and drop out? Arguably this allows them to re-enter the race if something unexpected happens, but the more likely motivation is for them to use the delegates they have accumulated so far as bargaining chips in the final stages of the primary campaign.

Between you and wikipedia being black, I called my rep and two senators. I saw on facebook that Cantwell had come out against it by the end of the day. It was amusing to see the scare, i mean issue ads on MSNBC at the same time, telling people to encourage congress to stop piracy, implying if you don’t, the terrorists win.
Michael spews:
Romney, Gingrich, Santorum, in a three way. There’s an image I didn’t need in my head.

According to PPP pre-tweets about their results after day 1 of a three day poll, Newt and Mitt are neck-and-neck, and Santorum is imploding.
Now with Perry gone – I think it’s Mittens and Newty.
The debate may actually be fun tonight!

Regarding the blackout – I was home all day yesterday, and using the computer alot, and certainly noted the effects.
I also noted that those imbeciles over at soundpolitics had nary a word about the issue.
Putzes.

With coaches Christie, Palin and Mrs. Santorum yelling encouragement from the sidelines, or the edge of the mattress, if you like.

Maria did much more than “come out against it”. She was second only to Ron Wyden in her strong opposition to SOPA/PIPA. Against them on Day 1, against them every day since.
None of this “I have reservations” or “in its current form” double-talk we got from Patty (and Jeff Merkley as well).
Michael spews:
@13
Just one of the reasons I like Cantwell (and Wyden) even if I don’t agree with her all the time.
Carl spews:
@7,
I think they suspend instead of end so thy can still pay off debts. I don’t think he’s coming back to try to win some of the later states.

If you own Google stock, shit a brick, because the company missed its earnings and dropped 57 bucks in after-hours trading.
Thank the Great Mother Rabbit Spirit that I don’t own any Google or other hi-tech wonders! I threw my money at Dirty Coal instead — and now I’m making money hand over fist!
