Is anyone excited about the Seattle City Council elections? I am not excited about the current crop of candidates. I will be voting for one, and using my Democracy Vouchers on 1 to 4 of them. So, who should I be excited about?

This is really the opposite of what I want from bicycle infrastructure. Both as a bicyclist and a city driver. Seattle is very hilly, so we can use the help.

KOMO is garbage. They should be ashamed of themselves. Just completely irresponsible. Honestly, if it wasn’t obviously orders from the top, I would expect someone to be fired. And imagine having no comment? An apology and a correction at a minimum are in order. And fast. They maligned Mr. Champagne. They misinformed their viewers. And they did it on the public airwaves. Shame shame shame.

Maybe more bike lanes instead of not. I don’t know, people who drive in the city more than me, do you like sharing a lane with more bicyclists? It seems better for both to have them separate where possible.

I was at an old folks home over the weekend, and several of the old white ladies were very excited about Michelle Obama’s book. I guess they were talking about it because she was in town. I bought it but haven’t started reading it. Is it as good as the old ladies say?

I am glad that the Legislature is working on a 14 day period before renters can be evicted. There isn’t a single thing that will solve our homelessness crises. But this will help. So kudos, and if you want to write your legislators, this is a good bill to support.

So, I know that it’s 2019, but we are already talking Presidential candidates. It’s obviously critically important who is President. But it’s also important who is on your city and county councils. It’s critical that in 2020 we have great candidates for the legislature and for Congress. We need to defeat Donald Trump, but we also need to be able to govern.

Did you go to Emerald City Comic Con? I didn’t, but I did enjoy some great (and free!) people watching near Seattle Center. I also went to the after party for the podcast Jay and Miles X-plain the X-Men, a podcast that I adore despite not really caring about the X-Men. It was a lot of fun even if I didn’t have the same point of contact as a lot of the people there.

Seattle! Let’s eliminate late fees for overdue library books. I write about how much I use the library, and I have never had a late fee. But, it is still stressful when you’re close, and can’t renew. And I could afford the fees if I was a bit late.
Also, sending people to collections always seemed gross.

Seattle, I complain quite a bit. But I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. So I hope that it doesn’t come across as too much when I say (once again) please learn to stand. If you are in line for something, stand a reasonable distance behind the next person in the queue. If someone has to ask if you’re in line, maybe you fucked up. Also, doorways and curb cuts; Don’t just stand in them.

Oh good. Allergy season has hit the Pacific Northwest. I shall spend the next few weeks slowly turning into phlegm. Still beautiful, still I will take it over the snow.

Y’all! You can see the Puget Sound from Bell Street! The Viaduct is viadown there. I can’t wait for more sightlines as more and more removal happens. So cool.

KUOW had a very interesting story this morning about a sex education bill in the state Legislature. I wanted to do an open thread about it (pro, contact your legislators if it’s your thing). But I don’t see it on their website. This has happened a few times. I don’t know how quickly they turn around stories, but it’s kind of frustrating.

Eric Holder is not running for President. I probably wouldn’t have voted for him, but I think that he would have been a good addition. So what makes it good to get in a crowded field? Some combination of better than the median candidate and specific issues that they will bring up.
