Friday

by Carl Ballard — Friday, 3/15/24, 8:03 am

So, if you follow me on Bluesky, you may know that someone threw up on me on the 1 Line the other day. Not the most pleasant experience, but I was standing up and the people near me, sitting down got it much worse. Yuck, but!

Also quite a community Light Rail has. Within a second, people were reaching into their bags getting napkins and wipes and hand sanitizer. The guy who threw up ran out at the next stop, but there was real sympathy for him. A bunch of people jamed on the bus during rush hour looked after each other, felt sympathy, and even joked around. Too bad it took that to make it happen.

Anyway, please wash your hands right now and get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.

(Wednesday)

by Carl Ballard — Wednesday, 3/13/24, 8:00 am

– Interesting look at the future of bike infrastructure in South Seattle under the Seattle Transportation Plan. Looking forward to the rest of the series

– Feels weird to support the King County Sheriff’s Office in a lawsuit, but yeah. They’re clearly right in their dispute with Burien about the homelessness ordinance.

– I don’t know what’s happening with Kate Middletown. Probably nothing. But yeah, bad PR from the royals.

– The NW Museum of Cartoon Arts is going to Kickstart their first exhibition soon.

Monday,

by Carl Ballard — Monday, 3/11/24, 8:00 am

– Free COVID-19 and flu tests.

– When during the campaign, city council candidates said that they would take a look at the budget but couldn’t mention the specifics, well I guess it’s because it includes cutting a summer camp for special needs kids. Maybe they should have started looking before they were elected.

– Are we going to see an end to ballot title shopping?

– Anyway, please wash your hands right now. And get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.

I don’t think we as a state are prepared for the level of bullshit Brian Heywood’s initiatives are going to bring down on the state. Brian Heywood thinks he can replace the niche Tim Eyman left. I was aware of the economic damage if his tax initiatives pass. But I guess I missed how much Brian Heywood wants the police to hit people during unnecessary high speed chases. Just terrible all around.

Frrrrrriday

by Carl Ballard — Friday, 3/1/24, 7:58 am

How are you planning to staying warm over the weekend? I myself have forgotten to wear a sweater to work and am already too cold on public transportation. I was also fooled by fake Spring into shaving my bushy beard off. I am fooled by fake Spring every year, despite living here for most of my life. In conclusion, my strategy is I hope that it doesn’t snow until I get home.

Anyway, please get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.

You should have received your ballot for the Presidential primary. Get it postmarked or dropped off by March 12.

I know, who cares? Barring something strange, Biden and Trump are going to be the nominees. But still, you can register your support, or your opposition. You can write in “Bumface” if you want to register your displeasure with one bored poll worker.

Anyway, please wash your hands right now and get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.

Friday!

by Carl Ballard — Friday, 2/23/24, 8:12 am

It doesn’t preclude all punishment, but dang. The cop who killed Jaahnavi Kandula won’t face criminal charges. Just, I don’t know man. This felt like they couldn’t just sweep it under the rug. Maybe he’ll face a civil case or discipline in the department; here’s hoping. But for a person who hit someone and then laughed about how worthless they are, criminal charges seem pretty reasonable.

Anyway, please wash your hands right now and get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.

– What is going on with bike lanes in Bellevue? I mean it’s just an abuse of the ethics process, right?

– It seems like going after men who solicit prostitutes over the prostitutes themselves was a step forward in 2015, but there are still problems.

Listen, you jamooks. Every open thread I post has the admonition to get vaccinated or boosted. It is the single best weapon we have to fight COVID-19; Wash your hands. Wear a mask in crowded places: Great, but not as good as keeping up on your shots. It also helps with long covid. So seriously, what the hell are you waiting for?
