This morning on ABC’s This Week, George Stephanopoulos asked House Majority Leader John Boehner if he he thought Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld “has to go.” Boehner’s answer?
I think Donald Rumsfeld is the best thing that’s happened to the Pentagon in 25 years.
Let’s be absolutely clear what November’s election is all about, at least when it comes to the war in Iraq. The Republican leadership continues to unflinchingly support President Bush’s failed policies in Iraq… and both Dave Reichert and Cathy McMorris continue to support the Republican leadership. Should Reichert and McMorris win reelection, they will vote to retain Boehner as Majority Leader — or perhaps even promote him to Speaker of the House. Should Darcy Burner and Peter Goldmark win in November, they will vote for a new House leadership, one that will finally hold the Bush administration accountable for its failures. This is a choice between “stay the course” and a “new direction.”
So if you think Rumsfeld is “the best thing that’s happened to the Pentagon in 25 years,” vote Republican.
Elsewhere in the interview, Boehner claimed that “the President is listening to the commanders on the ground.” Hmm…

Dems blocked notification bill
The Child Custody Protection Act (S.403) would have required at least one parent be notified before their minor daughter obtains an out-of-state abortion. It died on the Senate floor last week when Senate Democrats voted overwhelmingly to block it. The motion was supported by 51 of 55 Republicans and only 6 of 45 Democrats.
How could anyone with any moral courage at all vote against such an important bill? We know that the national platform of the Democratic Party is pro-abortion but this brings the party to an all-time low in my opinion. If it is required to get parental authorization to go on a field trip at school it should be unthinkable that minors be allowed to undergo a potentially dangerous medical procedure without their parents’ knowledge or consent. Guess how our senators voted?

Johnson best for court
Susan Owens is a typical “activist judge” who thinks that it is acceptable to legislate from the bench and determine matters of policy that are reserved to the Legislature. She justifies this brand of judicial activism because she arrogantly believes that she knows better since “the Legislature is really behind the times socially.” (quote from an interview with the Yakima Herald-Republic.) Her view that she knows better than those pesky legislators is offensive to all but the most extreme partisan.
Judges are supposed to interpret the law and to only strike down a law if it violates the state or federal Constitution, not because it offends the judge’s personal beliefs. Judges are charged with deciding legal and constitutional issues and they must leave policy issues where they belong, to our elected legislators. Susan Owens doesn’t seem to understand that separation of powers is vital to the American system of government. Such a clear lack of respect for our established system of government demonstrates that Susan Owens does not belong on the bench.
The King County Bar Association Judicial Ratings recognize the superiority of her opponent, rating Stephen Johnson as “well qualified,” while rating Owens as merely “qualified.”
If you want a Supreme Court justice who knows, understands and respects the difference between the bench and the legislature, then vote Stephen Johnson for the state Supreme Court.

We have rising productivity, falling incomes, a negative return on cash, and the destruction of financial capital that will continue until enough factories are taken off line and permanently closed. Both physical and financial capital are in surplus and need to be “destroyed” to bring back a positive return to new investment.”

COUPEVILLE – An Oak Harbor woman who allegedly signed and mailed in her daughter’s absentee ballot has been charged with unlawful voting, a felony charge that is on the books but is seldom used.
The charge was filed Wednesday in Island County Superior Court, Prosecuting Attorney Gregory Banks said Friday.
Charging papers allege that Elizabeth Reddy, 45, illegally signed her daughter’s ballot despite warnings on a voter affidavit and other materials that are sent to absentee voters, Banks said.
“It’s unusual to see a case (like this) come to prosecution,” said Nick Handy, director of elections for the secretary of state’s office in Olympia. “Given the high-profile nature of the election process … we think this sends a strong message to voters that these kinds of accusations will be taken seriously.”
The ballot was cast in the Oak Harbor School District bond election May 16. The daughter, who lives in Bellingham, told Island County Sheriff Mike Hawley that she told her mother to vote on her behalf, according to charging papers.

We know that the national platform of the Democratic Party is pro-abortion but this brings the party to an all-time low in my opinion. If it is required to get parental authorization to go on a field trip at school it should be unthinkable that minors be allowed to undergo a potentially dangerous medical procedure without their parents’ knowledge or consent.
