Remember a couple months back, in the midst of an apparent “Palin bounce,” when liberal bloggers like me were warned that our personal attacks against Sarah Palin were backfiring? Well, guess what…
A growing number of voters have concluded that Senator John McCain’s running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, is not qualified to be vice president, weighing down the Republican ticket in the last days of the campaign, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.
All told, 59 percent of voters surveyed said that Ms. Palin was not prepared for the job, up 9 percentage points since the beginning of the month. Nearly a third of voters polled said that the vice-presidential selection would be a major factor influencing their vote for president, and those voters broadly favored Senator Barack Obama.
In a possible indication that the choice of Ms. Palin has hurt Mr. McCain’s image, voters said that they had much more confidence in Mr. Obama to pick qualified people to serve in his administration than they did in Mr. McCain.
What we did was soften her up… sowed the seeds of doubt. And when Palin got out on the campaign trail and proved herself to be a one trick pitbull, totally incapable of fielding even a few simple questions from Katie Couric, Palin’s approval numbers collapsed faster than the stock market.
Palin is not qualified to be vice president, and it would have been absolutely stupid and self-destructive to refrain from relentlessly pointing that out, simply because she’s a woman. Perhaps McCain gambled that in the wake of Hillary Clinton’s narrow defeat, the Dems would be too timidly PC to go there. Well, we weren’t, and we did. And now McCain is paying the price for the most irresponsible VP pick since Spiro Agnew.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Ever since Nixon, I’ve believed Republicans deliberately pick crappy running mates as impeachment insurance.
Mr. Cynical spews:
Same thing is going to happen to Obama.
McCain blew this election in many ways…how he used Palin and failure to go after Obama for fear of being labeled a racist. However, Conservatives will be ready, willing & able to give Obama the same treatment the Left gave Bush. Everything he idea he proposes will be labeled as Marxist/Socialist, every word parsed and his past more fully vetted.
One thing I heard Obama say for the first time today was about “growing the economy” and “growing the pie”. You do not do that by increasing taxes. Obama is already starting to lower the expectation bar for the lunatic left and young voters who were so convinced he would simply increase taxes on rich folks & corporations and give it to them. Fat chance.
Frankly, I think Obama has been educated about the futility of trying to increase taxes on rich people & corporations. BILLIONS have been spent already on Tax Planning in anticipation of Obama’s reign of terror. I have many Tax CPA and Attorney friends who are soooo busy they cannot take any time off before tax season.
It’s a Tax Professional’s DREAM!

Well I’m not sure you softened her up much. I think she did that to herself.
What I find fascinating is this Palin litmus test that some in the hijacked republican party are using to filter membership. “If you support Palin, you’re with us, otherwise you’re against us.” This seems really self defeating.
Unlike some, there are a lot of republican’s I respect. Many of whom I count as friends are going to vote for Bob Barr or Obama specifically because of Palin. Now the radical wing is pushing her for 2012. They aren’t paying attention.
Perhaps it’s time for a viable 3rd party of real conservatism…….

Mr. Cynical spews:
If the Republican’s had put up Romney/Huckabee this election would be a coin-flip.

Yet they are still within a few points of Barrack “Santa Claus free Shit for Everyone” Obama and Joe “The Mouth” Biden.

Obama Gains Electoral Votes
The Republican-friendly media tell us the race is “tightening” (see, e.g., AP poll) but the latest movement on RealClearPolitics’ electoral vote map is in Obama’s direction.
Obama now has 311 EVs to McCain’s 142, with 85 tossups. Nevada has moved from tossup to leaning Obama, and Georgia has moved from leaning McCain to tossup.

Well, I’m sure there will be lots of people out there who will continue to slam doors and look for any reason to complain. I was one of those people who was bent about Bush. Unfortunately Bush continue to live down to my expectations. Based on what Obama did at Harvard Law Review and his openness to other opinions, I have a feeling that you’ll have fewer needs to shout “marxism!” over time…
I honestly don’t know anybody who has take a thoughtful look at his proposal and sees Robin Hood besides some right wingers who listen to the talking points and not the facts… All of those I know who are not wealthy and are voting for Obama are doing so because of something other than taxes. I’ve heard all of (in prio order) health care, ending the war, energy policy, social justice, and restoring dignity and ethics to America. I have not heard 1 single middle class to poor person say their vote hangs on Obama’s tax policy.
I have a lot of CPA and attorney friends too. Most are so busy right now because they’re either redoing trusts and that have lost so much value or are doing loss planning and portfolio rebalancing because of their clients recent losses.

cynical knows nothing about the economy and thinks because he gambles on a few stocks he is some kind of expert. Thinking you are an expert does not make you one – I’ve got news for you. Pretending that the last 8 years of economic disaster were great – which is what cynical WAS writing before the most recent collapse – shows have pathetic cynical’s knowledge really is.
The fact that cynical is one of the under 25% that think bush is doing a great job – tells us all we need to know about the level of judgement of “cynical”.
Yup – cynical thinks the Iraq war was good for the US, thinks bush is doing a good job, thinks the BIAW is a great organization – yet we should listen to his crap about socialism and the economy because…..the only reason he can come up with is that he is a self-proclaimed expert and a legend in his own mind.
Being continually WRONG apparently, is all the verification that cynical needs.
rhp6033 spews:
Cynical @ # 2: Actually, Bush got an extended honeymoon from criticism from the left and the media. His administration was eight months old at the time of 9/11, and then came the Afganistan war, and then the Iraq war, which stiffled a lot of criticism of Bush until well into the 2004 campaign season (nobody wanted to be seen as not “supporting the troops” while they are engaged in combat).
But by 2005, Bush’s failures were becoming readily apparant.
(a) The Iraq situation was deteriorating rapidly, and the anti-war movement picked up steam, and the disparity between the government’s statements and the situation on the ground became apparant, as did the lack of planning and foresight;
(b) the failed response to Katrinia, which cause the public to question the administration’s veracity and competence on a wide range of issues;
(c) the Valerie Plame affair, which revealed a mean-spirited attempt to silence critics even if it damaged the country’s response to terror in the process;
(d) the attorney-general firings, which further demonstrated an attempt to subvert the Justice Dept. for partison political advantage;
(e) the cronyism and patronage which benefited supporters of the administration with huge no-bid government contracts and put incompetent administrators (like Brownie) in important government posts simply because they were pliable;
(f) the continued economic softening which turned into a full-blown meltdown over the last two months, and was handled by massive infusion of taxpayer money for the benefit of bankers;
(g) record deficits and an exploding national debt on a scale not imagined before…
I could go on, but it’s just too tiring to list them all. In short, the Bush administration brought it all upon themselves, and blaming those who point out the obvious is like attacking the kid who exclaimed “the emporer has no clothes!” They got an extended honeymoon which they abused, and now we are all paying the price.
Personally, I hope that the media does it’s job a lot better during the Obama administration. I agree it should be a lot more accountable than the Bush administration has been.
But what I’m expecting is a double-standard by the Republicans. Within weeks, they will be blaming Obama for the economic mess Bush & Co. created, and so forth.

The problem here is that proving (a posteriori) voter fraud when votes are cast with secret ballots is an impossibly high hurdle. That’s why we malcontents accepted Judge Earring’s ruling: We could not violate voter privacy by linking specific secret ballots to specific dead felon Democrat voters.
And that’s why our secretary of state, Republican that he is, belatedly did his job and purged 300,000+ dead felons and dogs from the rolls for 2008. Any or all of those 300,000+ could have voted for Gregoire in 2004, with impunity and without challenge. And then could have voted for her again.
The problem for a US Attorney such as Republican McKay is that “could have” does not necessarily = “did” for reasons of confidentiality and secret ballots cited above.
Maybe multiple-recount Gregoire really won. Maybe she actually got more actual votes than Yacht Club Dino. But it’s more likely that she was the beneficiary of an election so incompetent that it looked corrupt.
2004 was what a stolen election looks like. And that’s 2004 Washington State. Not 2004 Ohio.

There was incompetence on the part of Dean Logan, but incompetence doesn’t = fraud. The election results were so close they might as well have decided the thing with a coin toss. Gregoire just happened to be the one on top at the end.

Roger Rabbit Commentary: If he got elected he’d probably lose his vice president someplace, too. But that isn’t a bad idea.
Dean Died 4 Your Sins spews:
Yes, a few (four) fraudulent voters were found who admitted that they fraudulently voted for Rossi. At least I think that’s how Gregoire’s landslide went from 129 to 133.
But to say there was no fraud (beyond those four) is unsupportable. To repeat: fraud could not be proven after the fact without true or “true” confessions from voters who were willing to confess. That’s because we have secret ballots. We could not breach the confidentiality of secret ballots to link them to any of 300,000+ illegally or fraudulently registered voters … a list that was not compiled for a purge until after Judge Earring’s decision.
Again: I did not accuse Logan of stealing. I asserted that he was incompetent.
2004 was what a stolen election would look like. Agreed? But neither you nor I nor a heap o’ lawyers could rip away the veil of ballot secrecy to prove 2004 was a stolen election. Agreed?

None other than Jules Crittenden (big time rightie) has backed Obama! Crittenden had this to say about the whole social/terror/ism meme:
Dan Cooper the founder and head of Cooper Arms, a maker of high-end hunting rifles, has backed Obama! I guess he’s figuring Joe six-pack might spend some of his newly increased tax return on a new rifle.

Think I covered myself with enough weasel words and qualifiers to avoid saying anything (the election was stolen; there was fraud) that I cannot prove. I asserted that Dean Logan was incompetent here in 2004 and in LA, 2008. Pretty sure that can be proved, even to a scrofula shyster fucking-defrocked-lawyer rabbit in rehab.
Michael spews:
@70
Yep, and I agreed with you on that.
Love the Smell of Burning Fur in the Morning spews:
Sick Republicans, man, always trying to incinerate tiny tots.
Actually, we wire our signs to zap the buck teeth out of buck rabbits. Mount the teeth on our beer bongs, throw the dumb stinking dead bunnies in big hot pots. Just like Fatal Attraction.
Ready When You Are, D.B. spews:
Dan Cooper does Obama? With or without a ‘chute?
big time rightie spews:
Big time … Guess we’ll take your word for that, since you haven’t misled us about anything else. (Jules Verne? Heard of him. Old Jules? Ditto. But Jules Crittenden? Sure talks like a big time rightie … I mean, all big time righties talk about how cool Chancho Guevara was …)

Message to Michael: Argghhh indeed. 411 your 69, and signing out. 10-4.
HNMT 2 YLB: Lookin’ good, my brother. Welcome back to the sewer.
Michael spews:
Never mind the Jules Crittenden comment above, it seems he’s back in the McCain camp.
YLB spews:
Let’s recap for everyone.
77 is the Hateful Name Morphing Troll (HNMT) or the “slobbering wingnut of many aliases”.
In the comment to the thread referred to 75 he was exposed to be totally full of right wing crap when he quoted one of those garbage right wing e-mails as the gospel truth.
The compulsion of the right wing is to the think they’re better than everyone else or smarter than everyone else because they dittohead to Limbaugh or slavishly accept every piece of right wing trash that lands in their e-mail inbox.
Gerry spews:
I bet you that all those guys spewing all that anger, hate and lies towards Obama, are white boys frightened that you have a man of color more intelligent, educated, cultered and sublime than they will ever be, oh and one more thing..he got bigger cojones than any those ole boys will ever have.
busdrivermike spews:
When Palin runs in 2012, I will be the first one to contribute, just like when I did with Ellen Craswell in the 1996.
If Obama wins on Tuesday…..or wait WHEN Obama wins on Tuesday, the loonies of the right will hold a pogram and immolate the Republican party.
Sweet.

Rog–
You conveniently failed to mention the homeowner had numerous McCain signs stolen and the kid had an Obama sign in his hand to steal & replace the sign AGAIN!
What kind of a sick bastard Democrat would send a 9 year-old kid to a neighbors house (private property) to steal a legitimate sign and replace it with the sign of a Marxist?????????
SHOCKING!!! (literally)
Mr. Cynical spews:
80. Gerry spews:
Actually Gerry, Obama is half black and half white….
I’m against both his black & white side because he is a Socialist/Marxist with zero accomplishments other than running for office and writing 2 phoney books about himself.
Mr. Cynical spews:
bdmike-
Palin will not run in 2012.
She will remain Governor and then run for Senate.
The Republican 2012 Ticket will be Romney/Huckabee….like it should have been this time.
Obama is hamstrung from the beginning.
Everything he says will be put under the Socialist/Marxist microscope.
Obama has promised things he cannot deliver.
That’s why he is already lowering expectations talking about “growing the economic pie”…rather than “spreading the wealth around”.
Look, I know you KLOWNS like to be in charge. But you are clueless what to do once there. Clinton told you folks all these great social things he was going to do for you. He did nadda on that end. All he did was pump the high tech BUBBLE which ultimately burst. People lost 80% of their retirements in that bubble…NOT ME!
Steve spews:
Ranching in Montana is such easy work. It allows Cynical the time to post on a Western Washington political blog day in, day out, from morning to night. Yes, ranching is very easy work.
There is no ranch. There are no investments. Cynical lies about everything.
Gerry spews:
I said man of “color” which I mean not Aryan. Are you white M. Cynical? I bet you are.
Daddy Love spews:
There’s all this vote fruad! We can’t prove it but it’s there! It’s impossible to prove because of the secret ballot be BELIEVE ME thate’s a lot of vote fraud!! If only we were not hamstrung by ridiculous privacy and integrity of the vote concerns we’d prove it! But we can’t so you just have to BELIEVE ME!!!!
That’s pretty lame as an argument. I’m pretty sure that a judge can review evidence in a non-public setting to allay privacy concerns.
But 2004 is over, WA state law was followed to the letter, and Rossi lost.
As he will in 2008. What will you cry then? Don’t tell me. “Vote fraud.” Just like the sun coming up in the morning.

I’ve been reading and commenting here for years, and back before Captain COdpiece completely blew up his credibility and any possible illusions anyone could have been under regardign hsi competence, inteligence, or intentions, there wasn’t a Conservative anywhere who wasn’t SURE that George Bush was their guy, a dyed-in0-the-wool True Conservative was was godlike is his conservative prowess. It sure is funny, but sadly predictable, that his faliure, and the utter falure and repudiation of the Conservative Congress we have been seeing in 2006 and 2008, are being spun as a failre of insufficently conservative men and not a a failure of capital C Conservatism, which of course is true, correct, and perfect always.
It’s like the old ’30s Left never being able to fathom that totalitarian Russia was indeed a failure of capital C Communism. And today’s conservatives will inhabit the same dustbin of history that Old Left does.
