One of the reasons Caterpillar/EMD built the Muncie, Indiana plant was to replace the union workforce at the London, Ontario plant. Another was to win passenger work, which would have to be built in the USA. Well, their protest of the loss of the contract to Siemens failed. Most likely the locomotives will be built at their Sacramento plant, but since Cummins will build the engines, some work will be done in Indiana.

I don’t know what to say about the current state of political discourse in this Country. The fact that the seriously crazy people now have in the internet, a means of communicating their “thoughts” as visibly as anyone else. Anyone calling themselves a “christian” and then actively adhering to Ayn Rand’s ideology cannot be taken seriously by intelligent people, simply because they have to couch their rhetoric in terms of violence, forcible suppression of curiosity and the resultant questioning of authority that goes with that. They openly disparage non-conformist thought, often with direct threats of violent retribution.
They are quite vehemently against public education in all forms, taking the position that any education process should be strictly controlled by private, vested interests and solely aimed at producing conformist and obedient soldiers and laborers for the individuals who presume themselves to be Kings, by their mere ability to gather and hoard wealth. They say it straight up, that schools do not and should not be teaching music, language, art, literature, analysis of information, or any scientific process outside of the direct need of those “Kings”.
The TeaBaggerist Fascists are everything this country was founded upon to oppose. The fact that they can label themselves as
“christian” and be taken seriously as such is the most visible aspect of the near total destruction of the Public Education system in this country.
We have gone from teaching Greek, Latin, mathematics and Literature in elementary school, to teaching remedial English and first grade mathematics in Universities.
We are now in the fifth generation of commercial television. A century ago, the illiterate sector was such because they either could not read, or had little access to books. Now, the illiterates are deliberate. They are proud of their lack of ability to take pleasure in literature, and consider themselves the mainstream of the American sociopolitical thinking. They would rather sit for endless hours in front of the television and watch “Duck Dynasty” or “Cops” or some sport than spend any time educating themselves on real-world issues. They prefer to be ignorant. They are entirely reactionary, and their reactions are based in pure, deliberate, willful ignorance of a subject.
They are the modern “Know-Nothings”

A case in point.
These people seem to think that there are legitimate “faith-based” alternatives to established facts. If these lunatics would have it, if they were somehow in charge, we wouldn’t be hearing anything about things like this.
With that in mind, I have noticed that an awful lot of the TeaBagzis seem to be rather elderly and almost universally alcoholic. As alcohol destroys Niacin, that is, Vitamin B3, and chronic Niacin deprivation (especially in childhood) is a major aspect of low-IQ levels and “meat-head” thinking, I am beginning to wonder if there isn’t a direct connection between chronic low nutrition in that generation that deliberately took on that near total rejection of basic nutrition in the face of the then somewhat new “modern food” that was pushed on people back in the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
Foodstuffs were massively marketed in the same way that shit like cigarettes were during that period, when there was a huge amount of new technology that was coming out at the same time. The push in public schools towards mathematics, formal language and history during that time when we had just won the major war of our nations history and the modern industries that grew out of the national recovery period following it, also put people in the mindset that all new things modern and industrial, were of total benefit to society and there could be no perceivable downside to it.
So you got: Wonder Bread, Twinkies, Sodapop, hotdogs and Velveeta fuckin “Cheese”, mass produced for the consumer market, in spite of the total lack of any nutritive value to the human body these products contained. It was pure processed plastic food that held no benefits whatsoever. I remember my grandmother sneering at a Wonder Bread commercial once when I was a kid, the sales pitch on the TV was all about the “8 essential vitamins and minerals” that the shit had to have added to it during that industrial process that manufactured it instead of just being natural to the product itself. The only “value” that could be discerned from that was to that of the manufacturer itself.
Example: When I was in 10 grade, I had to write a report on a common American made product for a writing class that was mostly about learning how to do research. I and my partner (a VERY pretty girl named Allison) chose cigarettes, as we both had started smoking and already knew each other from the circle of folks we hung out in. What we found out about how they were manufactured kinda blew my mind. When you smoke a cigarette, you’re just smoking tobacco-flavored paper. The manufacturers take the tobacco, grind it up, extract and separate all the components of the tobacco into separate vats and then use the resultant pulp to make paper. This paper is then carefully infused with the various ingredients, plus sugars and burning agents, and cooked.
This is also how Wonderbread, sugary breakfast cereals, Twinkies and other such junk food is made. The manufactures take a somewhat natural farm product, break it down into it’s chemical components, then rebuilt those components out of purely synthetic processes and ingredients. This is then sold to the general public through a meticulously developed propaganda industry as being food. The “christians” have fed their kids on this shit for going on 70 years now.
The TeaBagzis are the result of being fed on that crap for five or six generations. Chronic niacin (and probably other seriously important nutrients) deficiency, over a long period.
They’re just incapable of absorbing detailed information about anything from more than one sense at a time. Their brains just aren’t equipped to handle it, and their life-training they got as kids was oriented away from it.
It’s evolution in action. They’re becoming an entirely seperate subset of the species.

How “faith-based” works in the real world. There needs to be so many more that end up like this. The entirety of the institution is corrupt by its own fucking nature. This isn’t anomalous, it is the purpose of its function. Religion corrupts everything it touches. There’s a damned good reason why every despot in history has used it as a tool to and for the ends of power itself. It really cannot serve any other function, it just isn’t designed that way.

When he ran again, in 1980, he replaced a pretty legitimately “Christian” moderate individual with a near atheistic and anarchic one, but somehow, his “faith” was taken more seriously than that of his predecessor. All he had to do was preach that national-corporatist version of the prosperity gospel, couched in the language of an somewhat absurdly comical evilangelical christian grandpa. That slightly cockeyed smirk, that affable old fart you wouldn’t mind having for a next door neighbor.
Ronald Reagan, and then the openly Fascist GHW Bush brought us the nightmare we are seeing now. They created it out of the old John Birch Society handbook and it shared many subtle commonalities with Mein Kampf and the ideas of Leon Trotsky and Ayn Rand. But it was layed out to the People and sold as just another form of “faith”. That is, faith-based economics.

Interesting, the Market Street Railway helped make this happen, but they still fight MUNI at times. Like right now,MUNI is suggesting charging cable car fares for the F-Market and Wharves line, which if approved, would be a 300% increase. The current TRAINS magazine(April 2014) has a good article on the F-line.
