    The right wing grows ever more insane – everyday doubling down on the war on women, cutting taxes on the rich, “saving” social security and medicare by destroying them, blaming the country’s problems on the shrinking ranks of unionized workers and government employees.

    Since I’ve once again been banned (by no less a Poobah than Sharkansky himself) from posting factual material on unSP, I think I’ll post it here regarding comments by Warren Peterson.

    He says, regarding the recent contraceptive ‘debate’:

    Is it true or not? Be brave and venture an opinion.

    Does it make sense to you that Obama would be trying to deflect peoples’ awareness of the state of the economy when at this time in 2008, we were losing 700,000 jobs a month, and this month we gained 225,000 new jobs.

    Cities and counties are really struggling right now. A few small, rural, burgs have decided to close up shop lately, we’re starting to see a few cities and counties file for bankruptcy and this showed up in the NYT today.

    Suffolk County, one of the largest counties outside New York City, projected a $530 million deficit over a three-year period and declared a financial emergency. Its Long Island neighbor, Nassau County, is already so troubled that a state oversight board seized control of its finances last year.

    In a radio interview on Friday, Mr. Bloomberg noted the spreading financial woes of local governments, saying, “Towns and counties across the state are starting to have to make the real choices — fewer cops, fewer firefighters, slower ambulance response, less teachers in front of the classroom.”

    And Thomas S. Richards, the mayor of Rochester, recently described a grim situation facing New York’s cities in testimony to the State Legislature, saying, “I fear that Rochester and other upstate cities are approaching the point of financial failure and an inevitable financial control board — as is the case in Buffalo — unless something is done now.”

    We’re not in a recovery, folks. We’re still completely fucked and working things though. Maybe in another couple years we might start to recover, but the “recovered” America wont look much like the free spending, bubble economy, America that existed before the crash.

    Police in Washington state on Saturday arrested a 34-year-old man accused of stabbing a judge and shooting a sheriff’s deputy in a courthouse struggle, one day after he fled the small town of Montesano.

    Law enforcement officers in neighboring Thurston County took Steven Daniel Kravetz into custody Saturday afternoon at his mother’s home in the state capital of Olympia, Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Rick Scott said.

    The gun taken from the deputy during Friday’s courthouse attack and other evidence were recovered, he said.

    When you understand that, you will understand how Republicans think. To them, the employer should have unlimited rights over their employees, including where they live, who they vote for, whether or not they marry, their conduct off work hours, where they go to church, etc.

    In other words, indentured servitude.
