This is a sad commentary about either (1) the state of the Washington state political press machine, or (2) Larry Ishmael’s PR abilities. Maybe both.
You may remember that Ishmael ran against Rep. Jay Inslee (D-WA-01) in 2006 and 2008. According to his video, he was busy working on a Ph.D. in Economics in 2010 (at the University of Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa, according to his bio). He expects to finish his PhD in December, 2012.
But for now…Heeeeee’s Baaaaack!
The “breaking” news is that Larry Ishmael is running for congress again in the 1st CD!
The “not so breaking” part about it is that Ishmael announced his candidacy sometime in mid-December. His You Tube announcement is dated December 12th.
A Google news search in the past month on his name reveals:
No results found for “larry ishmael”.
No announcement in a blogosphere search either. Huh.
How did I find it? While working on my Friday Night video thingie, I stumbled across his trove of seven campaign videos released since his announcement.
Sheesh!
Yo! Media…let’s pick up the pace a bit! Or maybe it’s…Yo! Larry…get some PR help!
Ishmael’s entry probably means there will be three Republicans in the race.
As an aside, when he ran in 2006, Goldy noticed that he was living in the 8th CD. That doesn’t violate the laws of man or nature or anything…it just a sign of political tone-deafness. So…it’s probably the latter. Sorry about giving you a hard time Media! Love ya! xxoo

My questions are: Is he an honest man? Is he taking money from ALEC or any Corporate institution? Is he sitting in the pocket of some foreign interest?
Just from his ads, obviously home made, he seems rather innocuous. Low key campaigns always attract my attention simply because they do not have that slick, “Cal Worthington” feel to them. They aren’t funded and operated by some big money operation.
A Ph.D in economics by itself means nothing, even if that Doctorate is real and not a product of some Diploma mill. What school of economics does he subscribe to? Is he interested in the American school, or is he more of a classicist, or a Keynesian?
Being a GOP candidate, my impression is he would likely subscribe to the Austrian School or the Carneges. If so, thats not what I would vote for in any case.

Why would anyone want a de facto South African representing them in Congress?

P.S. I am a free market economist with compassion. Check out my videos.

@1 It’s hard to discuss economics without thinking about how much we don’t know about real-world economics, isn’t it? We’re kinda in the same place as physics: We think the Higgs boson exists, but we don’t know that it does, and we think there may be many universes, but we can’t see beyond our own.
Economics is formulated around human nature and behavior; human nature generally doesn’t change over time and place, but human behavior does, so what was true of market behavior 75 years ago isn’t necessarily true today.
Certainly, there are aspects of human economic behavior that can be observed, mapped, and formulated as conclusions or principles; but, when you get right down to it, economics is — if a science at all — at best a squishy science.
