The US House just passed HR 3962, the health care reform bill. A solitary Republican voted “Yea.” Roll call should be up here after a while. If you go there, you can also check out Roll 884, the Stupak Wire Coat Hanger Amendment.
Baird did vote no on final passage of the health care bill.

The Democrats that voted no were allowed to do that so when they go up for reelection in 2010 their ‘yes’ vote can not be used against them. The Dems in Congress have always tried to do that as they got hit up back in Hillary’s Health Care bill fiasco.

Baird’s had left-wing challengers down here before, but the district is a major problem; there’s the Olympia area, which is indeed filled with a fair amount of leftists, but the further south/out into the boonies you go, the more conservative it gets. The change is noticeable just driving down I5 to Centralia. Even if Baird could be given the boot, it would likely turn the district to the GOP.

Sixty-four percent (64%) of liberal voters Strongly Approve while 68% of conservative voters Strongly Disapprove. Those numbers are even higher among those who are “very” liberal or conservative.

Fifty-four percent (54%) now oppose the legislative effort, up three points since last week. Seventy-three percent (73%) of liberals support the plan, but just 18% of conservatives agree. Only 23% of all voters Strongly Support the plan while nearly twice as man (44%) are Strongly Opposed.
There are sooooo many Conservative campaign issues for 2010 and Pelosi will be the whuppin’ gal….as will Obama and Reid.

@29 “I just love ‘conservative’ thought patterns. If it doesn’t fatten some stock holders portfolio, it is a ‘no’ vote every time. Capitalism! Who cares who dies or goes bankrupt. It is all about helping the ‘haves’ isn’t it? Republicons.”
Sigh. I know what you mean. Well, I say, if you can’t lick ’em, join ’em! Why should Republicons get all the money? There’s enough money to spread around — so I help myself. I figure if Republicons can get free money and favorable tax rates, so can rabbits. Free money that’s taxed at 1/3rd the rate of taxes on wages is too good a deal to pass up! In fact, I don’t see the point of working. There’s too many disincentives against working in this country. So I don’t work anymore, and now that I’m a lazy oaf who does nothing and produces nothing, I have more income and lower taxes than ever before!
@31 They shouldn’t get “free” anything. Workfare is my answer. You have to put in enough hours serving your neighborhood, city, county, state, or country to cover your premium. No workee (if you are able to work) no health care.
I also believe as Roosevelt said Every American has a RIGHT to a job.
@33 Bunny man is right. Tax capital gains the same as wages, and you can lower income taxes on wages and get the same $$$. Tax capital gains for medicare and social security also, and cut those too. Ohhhh now wait. That would help too many poor people and hurt too many “haves” now wouldn’t it.
In fact I am for a flat tax. Based on a person’s assets, not “taxable wages” crap.
35
Roger Rabbitspews:
@30 “Mmmmmmmm Mmmmmmmm Mmmmmmmmm Barry Hussein O. has lost his magic touch.”
Who cares? He’s going to be president for another 7 years and 2 months! That’s all that counts — your stupid Rasmussen polls are meaningless. Suck on it.
36
Roger Rabbitspews:
@31 “He hasn’t worked for years and doesn’t appear to be trying.”
Same here! I make no effort whatsoever to work. In fact, I go out of my way to avoid anything that remotely resembles work!
And don’t worry about YLB — he won’t go bankrupt. The only way to go bust in this country is by being working-class. The people who don’t work have way more money than workers. In fact, it seems the more money they have, the less they work.
Why should anyone work? Working makes no sense. Look at the Boeing workers in Everett making $26 an hour. Their reward? The company sends their jobs to South Carolina where people make $14 an hour — and their reward will be sending those jobs to China where people make $1 a day. The capitalists who run our economy reward workers by paying them less and less, and eventually paying them nothing at all. That’s not enough incentive to work. Not for me, anyway.
I’d rather be a capitalist who gets paid for not working or producing anything.
Huh…for some reason, our drunken pollster-watcher Mr. Cynical overlooked this Rasmussen release:
Monday, November 02, 2009
For the third straight month, the number of Americans identifying themselves as Democrats inched up while the number of Republicans fell slightly.
In October, 37.8% of American adults considered themselves Democrats. That’s up three-tenths of a point from September and a full-percentage point since July. […]
A total of 31.9% now claim an affiliation with the GOP. That’s down a point-and-a-half since July 2009 and the lowest number of Republicans since July 2008.
The problem for Republicans is that they spent eight years peddling fear as a way of holding onto power. They never developed a sense of vision or exhibited real leadership. Americans caught on.
Now the Republicans are reduced to being full-time obstructionists. This has stripped them of their honor (which makes it easier to simply lie).
When will Republicans start generating ideas again? When will they regain a sense of honor? Will they ever again be in a position to actually lead?
38
Roger Rabbitspews:
@31 (continued) Speaking of “comrades,” the real communists in our country are the Republicans, who want workers to live like people did under Stalin — all work and no pay. Like Stalinists, Republicans believe in sharing the fruits of worker’s labor with themselves.
39
Roger Rabbitspews:
@34 “In fact I am for a flat tax. Based on a person’s assets, not “taxable wages” crap.”
It wasn’t so long ago that Republicons were touting the “flat tax.” In fact, Steve Forbes, a very rich guy, ran for president on a flat-tax platform. Anybody remember that?
Well, now that Republicons have figured out the real potential of progressive income taxation, a flat tax is the last thing they want! Their idea now is reverse progressivity — the less you make, the more you pay!
We already have a tax system like that here in Washington, and now Republicons want to take it national by replacing income taxes with a federal sales tax.
Republicons are against a flat tax, because that would mean people who get money by inheriting or owning stuff would have to pay the same taxes as the rest of us.
Their idea of “tax reform” is for workers to pay all the taxes and owners of capital and heirs to pay none.
40
Roger Rabbitspews:
However, even if we enact such a tax system, they’ll still bitch about taxes they don’t have to pay.
Next to polo and yacht racing, bitching about taxes they don’t pay is their favorite sport.
41
Roger Rabbitspews:
@37 “stripped them of their honor”
Darryl, for once, I have to disagree with you. I’m sorry, but I must! It’s a physical and metaphysical impossibility for Republicons to be stripped of their honor — because they never had any honor to begin with.
Tax assets not wages. So f-ing simple. So fair. The more you have the easier it is to make more. The less it hurts when you gamble and lose. Real Capitalism!

It is rare for Us to have something to or someone to celebrate. I do today.
Anh Joseph Cao of LA
A man for whom morals rise above mere party.
47
Roger Rabbitspews:
@45 But more to the point, Republicons will do anything to avoid paying taxes! They’ll literally go to the ends of the earth to avoid taxes! The Cayman Islands, for example. Or Guam. And Switzerland! Anywhere they can shelter their income from taxes.
Well, why not make it easy for them, and create tax shelters right down the street? If capital was taxed and wages weren’t Republicons would be lining up to read the babysitter-wanted notices on Fred Meyer bulletin boards and doorbelling neighborhoods with lawnmowers and rakes in their pickups.
48
Roger Rabbitspews:
@46 Coincidentally, the state of Virginia is going to kill the Beltway Sniper the day after tomorrow. I think a lot of people, especially victims and their relatives, will celebrate that.
God is right. Anything to help the “lost city” right? The one Republicon that is not a pile of human feces. If only for a moment.
50
Roger Rabbitspews:
By the way, GOP Party Texas Gov. Rick Perry doesn’t want you to know he executed an apparently innocent man. That’s why he replaced the members of a state commission responsible for reviewing reports by experts that say the fire was an accident. But GOP Party Gov. Perry isn’t getting away with it, because his little “Saturday Night Massacre” has provoked the opposite of what he intended, namely intense media scrutiny of his actions.
Back room deals with big pharma, abandoning the party’s stance on choice, the gutted public option; excuse me if I don’t celebrate this “victory”. The Democrats are the spouse who slips off his/her wedding ring to go bar-hopping. You can’t trust politicians (Kucinich excepted).
Slingshot. It has been 80 years. This is only the very beginning. This is why the corporate death dealers are “all in” so to speak.
Having a health care system that actually helps people stay alive, and is not just a profit center for the return demanding Vampires on Wall Street scares the heck out of Ayn Rand’s inbred greed filled capitalist zombies.
Remember government is bad. Always. Now shut up and give me your insurance $$ and if you get sick just go die quietly. We have already rescinded your policy….
I don’t understand why anyone could be unhappy with a system where we pay 50% more for health care, and have outcomes worse than many 3rd world nations.
I mean come on. You are supposed to go bankrupt when you get sick. It’s the American Way! Remember not to get sick. That’s all you have to do! Now don’t forget….
@53 Slingshot. Your are basically right. This bill really really sucks. It is only slightly better than no bill at all. I mean slightly.
It is all we could get with the “Waterloo” crowd lurking. They know how much a “good” bill that actually helped people at the expense of the death companies and Wall Street would damage their “party” of no.
It just goes to show you who runs our country. It sure isn’t your or I. (Unless of course you have a herd of lobbyists and millions to throw into campaign coffers I don’t have)
Want a good bill? Make campaign contributions a felony, and put a $1,000,000 bounty on lobbyists. Now that would be change I could believe in…..

And once they got the money, was it any wonder all you hear is “don’t tax me bro'”? Why would they want to pay taxes on something they stole or looted taxpayers for in the first place?

Failing to show proof of financial responsibility, meaning insurance coverage, is a violation of California Vehicle Code Section 16029. Violating this code could result in fines up to $500 plus penalties, impoundment of the vehicle and suspension of the driver’s license. If the vehicle is impounded the owner will have to pay for all storage and tow charges as well.
The consequences can be far more serious if you are involved in an accident and do not have insurance. You may have to comply with the financial responsibility laws (SR22, SR22s, SR16) including having to pay for any injuries or damages from the accident out of your own pocket.
It is up to a judge to determine if imprisonment is an option. We hope not!

Wow, your idiocy has just surpassed legendary.
…validate it through the Congressional Budget Office where they estimate the lowest cost family non-group plan under the Speaker’s bill would cost $15,000 in 2016.
Because, you see, $15K is not the “lowest family non-group plan.” It is what a so-called “reference” plan would cost for a family of four from group in an incomes range whoe “middle” oncome is $102,100 annually. Not everyone will purchase a “reference” plan; in fact, most people in that income range will have employer-paid insurance. Oh, and families in the $102,100 range are also upper-income. Most people make substantially less than this. A more important point is probably that families below that income level will receive substantial subsidies, and families below 150% of the federal poverty level (FPL) will pay nothing at all for Medicaid.
Now remember that (read the letter) the so-called “reference” plan premium number is the average of all policy premiums for all income groups. As you can see for yourself (if you read the linked letter from the CBO), the projected premium for a family of four earning $42,000 would be $1900 per year. That includes a pretty hefty subsidy. But those kinds of details get in the way of the frightening narrative that the Republican member needs in order to whip up the idiots. And that’s how a zombie lie is born.

All Facts Support My Positions spews:
@31 They shouldn’t get “free” anything. Workfare is my answer. You have to put in enough hours serving your neighborhood, city, county, state, or country to cover your premium. No workee (if you are able to work) no health care.

Darryl spews:
Huh…for some reason, our drunken pollster-watcher Mr. Cynical overlooked this Rasmussen release:
Monday, November 02, 2009
The problem for Republicans is that they spent eight years peddling fear as a way of holding onto power. They never developed a sense of vision or exhibited real leadership. Americans caught on.
Now the Republicans are reduced to being full-time obstructionists. This has stripped them of their honor (which makes it easier to simply lie).
When will Republicans start generating ideas again? When will they regain a sense of honor? Will they ever again be in a position to actually lead?
Roger Rabbit spews:
@31 (continued) Speaking of “comrades,” the real communists in our country are the Republicans, who want workers to live like people did under Stalin — all work and no pay. Like Stalinists, Republicans believe in sharing the fruits of worker’s labor with themselves.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Roger Rabbit spews:
However, even if we enact such a tax system, they’ll still bitch about taxes they don’t have to pay.
Next to polo and yacht racing, bitching about taxes they don’t pay is their favorite sport.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@37 “stripped them of their honor”
Darryl, for once, I have to disagree with you. I’m sorry, but I must! It’s a physical and metaphysical impossibility for Republicons to be stripped of their honor — because they never had any honor to begin with.

We were ALWAYS going to win.

Wow, your idiocy has just surpassed legendary.
…validate it through the Congressional Budget Office where they estimate the lowest cost family non-group plan under the Speaker’s bill would cost $15,000 in 2016.
Thanks for the link to the reference document from CB to Rep. Rangel.
Puddybud Remembers Progressives Forget spews:
Wow arschloch. Puddy’s family insurance is $5700 and Puddy has two in college fool. And Puddy has Group Health.
Puddybud Remembers Progressives Forget spews:
Don’t let facts get in the way of Daddy Loves Arschloch, but ya know ylb arschloch was almost right…
“Although the national average premium is currently $13,375 [2009 Daddy Love] for a family policy, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation, many are much higher than that — particularly in high-cost parts of the country.” And we all know the cost of health care will almost double again within 10 years.
But as you know Daddy Loving Arschloch never let facts interrupt his “great” arguments”. Puddy guesses making $102,500 is out of Daddy Loves Arschloch’s reach! So he uses the heavily subsided value $42,000 to make a silly point. The argument is year 2016 which is 6 YEARS AWAY. Puddy guesses in the Socialist States of America salaries will stagnate or drop precipitously, or as Puddy thinks more peeps will be unemployed and Dayy Loves Arschloch knows something others don’t.
And Puddy paying much less for his family health plan.
Puddybud Remembers Progressives Forget spews:
Hey Daddy Loves Arschloch…
Those are not Puddy’s words fool… “Although premiums under H.R. 3962 would vary by geographic area to reflect
differences in average spending for health care and would also vary by age, the table shows the
approximate national average for that lower-cost reference plan—about $5,300 for single
policies and about $15,000 for family policies in 2016. ” Douglas W. Elmendorf – Director said it fool!
