Open Thread November 13

by Carl Ballard — Monday, 11/13/17, 7:45 am

Over the weekend, I saw The Government Inspector at Seattle Shakespeare. It was quite funny, but there were a few aspects that felt dated. One thing I wanted to comment on was the casting seemed to be gender neutral, or at least had some women playing male parts and it wasn’t commented on.

I don’t know if it was a lack of good parts for women, or what. I do know it took about a minute to figure out and then it was fine. I’d prefer better female characters, but if you’re reviving old plays that don’t have them, this is pretty good.

HA Bible Study: Leviticus 25:44-45

by Goldy — Sunday, 11/12/17, 6:00 am

Leviticus 25:44-45
And as for your male and female slaves whom you may have—from the nations that are around you, from them you may buy male and female slaves. Moreover you may buy the children of the strangers who dwell among you, and their families who are with you, which they beget in your land; and they shall become your property.

Open Thread, Nov. 10

by Carl Ballard — Friday, 11/10/17, 8:21 am

I’m seeing a few people no big deal the Roy Moore and Louis CK allegations. Not just the usual (and despicable) bitches be lying. But there seems also to be a strain of even if it’s true, it’s not that bad.

I’m going to assume that everyone making that argument have something similar in their past, or ongoing.

Open Thread!

by Carl Ballard — Wednesday, 11/8/17, 7:23 am

Oh right, sometimes election results are good. I mean the statewide results are only from states that Hillary Clinton won. Other states are still busy dismantling unions and suppressing minority votes. They may well double down on that in the wake of the election.

Still and all, pretty good. Washington looks like we’ll have a Democratic majority in both houses. Seattle will have the mayor and 2/3 of the council be women on the day the election is certified.

Election 2017 open thread

by Darryl — Tuesday, 11/7/17, 6:02 pm

6:00: It is looking like a blue night….

6:03: Democrats take gubernatorial races in NJ and VA. The former reflects the least popular governor in American history. The latter follows from the least popular President in American history. Sure, NJ might have swung a bit from Trump, but Chris Christie pretty much hand delivered this race to the Democrats simply through sheer force of douchebaggery.

6:08: Wait for it…Republicans will accuse Twitter of swaying the elections by bumping up the character count to 280 JUST BEFORE THE ELECTION.

Confirmed Virginia House of Delegates Demoratic pickups so far: 2, 10, 12, 13, 21, 31, 32, 42, 50, 52, 67, 72
That's 12 seats
We're not done

— Fiddler (@cFidd) November 8, 2017

6:47: There is still some windbag on the teevee spewing sophomoric rhetoric and empty platitudes.

Medicaid expansion in Maine is up 54 to 46 in *rural* districts. Liberal Portland has not yet reported. This victory would be a massive signal.

— Topher Spiro (@TopherSpiro) November 8, 2017

Almost everything reported in Charlotte, NC. Democrat Vi Lyles leads 58-42, will be first African American female Mayor. Dems only won Mayoral race by 6 points in 2013, 4 points in 2015.

HA Bible Study: Genesis 19:30-36

by Goldy — Sunday, 11/5/17, 6:00 am

Genesis 19:30-36
Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave. One day the older daughter said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man around here to lie with us, as is the custom all over the earth. Let’s get our father to drink wine and then lie with him and preserve our family line through our father.”

That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and lay with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

The next day the older daughter said to the younger, “Last night I lay with my father. Let’s get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and lie with him so we can preserve our family line through our father.” So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went and lay with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

So both of Lot’s daughters became pregnant by their father.
