As these blunders by the House became more and more obvious, all the efforts to excuse them became more and more absurd. One main defense heard in the media was that it did not matter, given the Senate Republican majority. Yet if the House was certain to lose on that record, why end the investigation prematurely with a case that would be so easy to defeat? By waiting only a few months, the record would have been stronger. Instead, House Democrats surrendered control of the record to the opposing party and adopted a ridiculous strategy of demanding concessions to end with this trial that Senate Republicans loathed. That strategy failed miserably.
This is not Monday morning quarterbacking. This very series of events was expressly laid out before the vote, and House Democrats made a decision to choose certain failure over completing their impeachment case. There was no reason to expect Senate Republicans to assist House managers in making their case, particularly in calling witnesses not subpoenaed by the House. Democrats had opposed any witnesses in the impeachment trial of President Clinton and voted as a bloc for a summary acquittal. There was no reason to expect Republicans to adopt an entirely different approach.

And before the story of a missing child they were reporting on Iowa; at that same time I was reading the HA thread and read Roger’s comment on Limbaugh, of which I already heard the News. And I said to myself, God (I know very schizophrenic of me), either give Mayor Pete a good showing and if you do then I don’t even care if Limbaugh lives, or actually let him live….I’ll trade.
But then came the story of the missing boy in Colorado Springs, and said to myself, heck – God, let the missing boy be found if I had to trade that for a Mayor Pete victory or for some miracle recovery of Limbaugh.
Now, when a kid goes missing like that it’s usually not good, and there was some bad weather in the area. But I sure hope they find the 11 year old – even if I had to trade it for a Mayor Pete win.

This being caucus night, with all eyes on the Democrats, I just thought I’d mention that Republicans seem unconcerned about the abject lack of democracy in their party’s presidential candidate selection process.
Of course, it’s their party and they can choose their candidate however they please.

We had 285 total people in our caucus and a 15% viability threshold, which meant you needed at least 43 people to be viable after the first round.

People were already gathered in their assigned areas, and it was pretty clear who was viable and who wasn’t. Biden had fewer than 30 people and Pete had right around the 45 or so. Even before we got a count on the first alignment, the Biden people bailed and went to Pete or Amy.

In this precinct, at least, Mayor Pete and Amy benefit when Biden tanks. Probs ’cause there’s no Mini-Mike. Yet.

Hunter Biden bought the Cover Oregon company for not much money shortly after it lost its only client.
It was an amazing night for Amy Klobuchar. Given little chance to remain viable after the first round, Senator Klobuchar ended the evening tied for first place in Iowa delegates awarded!

What we know right now is the Iowa Democratic Party is (1) counting caucus votes manually to ensure the results are accurate and (2) hasn’t filed for bankruptcy 4 times. They probably don’t have to go to Russia for bank loans, either.
