I’m sitting in the PDC meeting right now, courtesy of Toby Nixon, who reminded me of it when he stopped by Drinking Liberally last night, and I realize I forgot to report that Toby has announced that he will not be running for the now elected position of King County Elections Director.
Toby was one of the forces behind changing the position from appointed to elected, and given his interest in the elections process (and his failure to win back his seat in the state House), many of us just assumed he’d run for the post. Well… no.
Given our conversation last night, I wouldn’t rule out another run for the legislature, but as for now, we won’t have Toby Nixon to kick around anymore.
Labor Goon spews:
I disagree with his positions on many issues, but Toby Nixon is an honorable man and a passionate advocate for good — and open — government. And he’s a nice guy.
As the State Republican Party surveys the election wreckage, they should seek Nixon’s counsel about how they might reposition themselves as the party that wants to fix government, rather than the party that wants to drown it in the bathtub.
Tlazolteotl spews:
Maybe the Republicans, if they want to have any future, can stop lying about everything, all the time.
And yes, Toby did it too.
ivan spews:
Where is he going to run for the Legislature again? Not in the 45th. He has had his ass handed to him twice in a row already.
Particle Man spews:
Just then, David Irons Jr’s stock shot up from a four year low of 22 cents a share to a huge 24 cents a share. Many experts still estimate this stock as over valued by at least 25 cents though.
In other news, Jason Osgood just received 363,997 votes in king county earning a 47.7% minority against GoPP Sec of State Sam Reed. Does Jason live in king County? Cuz with Nixon and Patterson out, a recent county wide candidate will have a good shot at this job.
Smartypants spews:
Over the past several years I’ve had contact with Toby on many occasions. Like Labor Goon above, I’ve disagreed with Nixon’s positions more often than not, but he has always been an honorable and decent public servant. I hope he continues to remain active in the community and public life.
RonK, Seattle spews:
Jason seems not hot to trot … will Toby leave King County to the tender mercies of Pam Roach as Elections Director?
Smartypants spews:
Pam Roach is a horror. If she ever wins a countywide election in King County, I will to Tacoma. :P
Roger Rabbit spews:
@7 How could Roach win a countywide election without rewiring the voting machines?
N in Seattle spews:
To Particle Man:
Yes, Jason Osgood does live in King County. I don’t recall which part, however.
RonK, Seattle spews:
Roger @ 8 — There’s no primary, and not much of a campaign season leading up to this Feb 3 simple plurality election. A raft of vanity candidates could split the vote any number of ways, and Roach does have her loyal followers.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
ArtFart spews:
7 Rewire them? She’ll just riddle them with bullets.
Josef for America spews:
I think of a few liberal lawyer friends who need to be asked to run. I also think The Shark needs to run. I also think it’s Marummy Time!!
K spews:
We will soon see what a bright idea making this an elected office was. I have personally spoken with electeds who think anyone who would run for it is crazy. If you do a great job, it’s what’s expected. You or your staff make any mistakes and headlines and blogs erupt.
messenger spews:
I haven’t followed Toby Nixon’s politics very much, since I don’t live in his district, but my interactions with him have always been positive. He has always gone the extra mile when I’ve asked him questions about open government issues. He obviously spent a considerable amount of time researching before offering input. I think he’s a good man.
Toby Nixon spews:
It appears I’m going to get kicked around no matter what Goldy says, but I suppose one must expect a few kicks if they hang around the south end of a northbound horse. :-)
Eric Oemig spews:
While I disagree w/ Toby on a few issues (even some election issues), when it comes to open and honest election reform, Toby is a smart and dedicated agent.
I think Toby would be able to step above party politics and do a great job.
Another name that comes up for me is Jason Osgood. He’s been a tireless advocate for election integrity and a thorn in the sides of both parties. (which btw, is as it should be)
YLB spews:
BIAW will have a brand new shiny tool (aka rusted blunt instrument) with the Minnow.
