For the past three-plus years I spent so much time writing for Slog that I barely had time to read it, let alone leisurely browse the rest of media/blogo-sphere. The result is, apart from a handful of major media outlets and a few favorite politically oriented sites, I’ve pretty much lost touch with what else is out there.
So I’m curious: what are you reading? Where are you getting your local news, reviews, and commentary? Which sites do you find indispensable, or merely just a damn pleasure to read, guilty or not? Of course, Facebook and Twitter—I understand that. But which sites and writers, if they disappeared tomorrow, would you miss the most? And why?
Seriously. Help me reconnection to my post-Stranger world.

I read Publicola, just to feel superior. Those two brats are just horseshit.

The Daily Score: http://daily.sightline.org/blog/
Several local subreddits, including r/Seattle and r/Cascadia.
Post Defiance is good, for a Tacoma blog: http://postdefiance.com/
I probably have more, but those are the first that come to mind.

I used to read Goldy’s stuff in the Stranger, but now I read it here. Plus I read the Seattle Transit Blog and the Phinneywood blog.

I used to read Slog, but the combined Line Out/Slog is a mess (they’ll probably sort that out, but there’s a lot of SHIT that passes for “music” around here that maybe five people care about)…
For some reason, whether it’s Goldy’s departure or not, Slog has lost some “heft” from a local/ State Capitol news perspective. The “in-your-faceness” and snarky balloon-popping is gone. Mudede and Savage are great, but Holden…he was good when he felt like he was being attacked…and Constant can stop staring at his navel any-time-now.
Crosscut is boring and Publicola is a disappointment.
Believe it or not, I have seen some almost good reporting in the PSBJ (“almost” is a compliment in the context of reporting in this burg). Strange, but true.

Mudede is a preposterous fool, best ignored.
Blue John spews:
I don’t read or watch local news. I probably get more local news from here than any place. I prefer King 5 TV when I watch news. I like the Stranger over the Weekly. I never bother with the Seattle Times after I got a paper for the local movie listings and it said “for movie listings, see online.” I have Googled the movie listings ever since. Idiots.
Joe Szilagyi spews:
Slog, Publicola, Sightline, Crosscut, Seattle Transit Blog, West Seattle Blog, West Seattle Herald, r/seattle on Reddit, KOMO, Lindblom and Thompson on the Times.

I get all my opinions from your NW Blogs links… blatherwatch, blog reload, upper left, Jesus’ Central, Jon Devore… all the best opinions from 6+ months ago and the most succinct “server not found” messages.
Matt the Engineer spews:
Still the Slog for me. Dominic and others generally do good work. It really is Seattle’s only daily paper.
Erica at Publicola is also amazing, though the format there is annoying and stories are sometimes/often filler.
Plus blogs, for specialized news (Seattle Transit, Urbanist, SeattleBubble, etc.).
Roger Rabbit spews:
Lacking a daily newspaper with local news coverage, I’ve increasingly relied on local TV station news websites, but that’s not very satisfactory. These days, I tend to find out about local happenings from national news sources.

>>KUOW
>>The Seattle Times editorial pages to see what I want to argue against. The Seattle Times (sometimes) for their serial or “big concept” stories. They can do a good job there when they want to put the time and resources into it.
>>Slog, but not as much as a year or two ago b/c quality political factual reporting (vs. just spewing shit) has dropped noticeably.
Ditto Publicola. And Crosscut has never been good in that realm.
The AP Wire and the NYT, both of which have occasional good Northwest stories long before the papers here pick up on them.
The Olympian and the WA State Wire for Olympia.
