Greenwald’s assertion that he expects the Republicans to be perfectly happy with this suggests he’s been living in a cave somewhere. If he’d been paying any attention to the AM radio screech monkeys or read some of the signs the teabaggers are waving (those that are actually legible) he’d be aware that the righties might think the use of executive power by GWB was “patriotic”, but for a Democrat to inherit the same authority, much less actually use it….AAAAAAAAAARGH!
OLBERMANN: And then there‘s the devil‘s advocate question: assuming al-Awlaki is guilty and is actively trying to kill Americans—not just advocating that, which is apparently what he started at, but actually
involved—is this not exactly what the Obama administration should be doing?
RICE: Absolutely … Again, assume is … really the effective word here.

Do you think it is legitimate use of executive power to order the assassination of Americans without due process?
4
Roger Rabbitspews:
@1 The teabaggers and most of the Republicans in Congress would be against Jesus Christ if he was a Democrat.
5
Vince with Slap-Chopspews:
@3…in this case, yes.
not only is he an enemy combatant, he is a traitor. Put those both together, and you get an eventual grease-spot.

Roger Rabbitspews:
The entire conservative movement now seems to be skipping over policy differences and mainlining personal hate as if it was heroin.
7
Roger Rabbitspews:
@3 Yeah, if he’s in a foreign country and waging war against the U.S., I would go along with it. The standards of due process are different on a battlefield. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be any, there always have to be rules of engagement, without which you’re no better than a Nazi (see, e.g., Dick Cheney), but from the beginning of human history it has always been understood that when someone picks up a sword against you, you don’t have to hold a trial before you can defend yourself.

Vince with Slap-Chopspews:
@7..agreed.

And we have that lying piece of shit Pudge calling Goldy a liar when Goldy talks about “the increasingly violent and eliminationist rhetoric washing through the Teabagger movement” on the other thread.

I don’t call Oba-Mao a Tyrant…I call him a Marxist Failure. I’m obviously not alone–
Thursday, April 08, 2010
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that 28% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -14.
The President’s Approval Index ratings bounced following last Friday’s jobs report which showed the highest level of job creation in three years. However, that bounce appears to have faded– especially among unaffiliated voters. A similar pattern was found in our separate polling on consumer and investor confidence. Confidence spiked in the days following the jobs report but has since retreated back to the levels found last week.
The Atheist Progressives just don’t get what is happening in real America outside the Socialist Republic of Seattle. Take a roadtrip…get a bite of what Real Americans think, not just a handful of Goldy’s Northwest Division of Lunatic Moonbats and his 12-15 Groupies.

Mr. Cynicalspews:
I saw a cartoon of Oba-Mao which was a Wizard of Id parody. It was hysterical.
Picture, Oba-Mao as the King standing on the balconey of his castle addressing his subjects.
Oba-Mao promises Free Health Care, Free Education, Free Food, Free Housing…and Jobs for everyone!! All to his screaming, cheering subjects.
Then Oba-Mao asks his subjects if there are any questions and a hand shoots up asking–
“Why do we need jobs?!!”
Too
Damn
Funny!!

“Real Americans”
The KLOWN chooses to divide the country during a time of war, presumably because he’s a seditious teabagging asswipe who hates America and wants to see America fall.

Mr. Cynicalspews:
Awwww Steve–
You were right there with Bush huh??
C’mon steve.
Hey, are you watching the Masters?
Tom Watson is lighting it up.
-2 after 10.
I get Direct TV which has 5 special channels devoted to this..
Ongoing coverage of Amen Corner
another on 15-16.
Good stuff.
Since we are supposed to get 40 MPH winds this afternoon, I’ll be nice & toast in front of the fire. I’m reading Cannery Row again. Figure it would help me better understand Oba-Mao’s end game for us.

Vince with Slap-Chopspews:

“Tom Watson is lighting it up.

I know. I’m a huge Watson fan. Last year’s British Open was no fluke. The man has been playing some great golf since his hip surgery. The course is long for him but he hits it high and can shape his shots. He knows that course as well as anybody. Sure, he likely won’t be there at the end but who really knows? It’s not like anybody thought he had a chance in the Open last year. Except him. One more time, Tom.
When it comes to protecting the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and opposing abuses of power (especially executives)…
Glenn Greenwald speaks for me.
Righties complain about how we lefties are soft on Obama, imagining a double standard. Sorry, wrong is wrong. We may not be screaming, but we voice our opposition. (Unlike the silence from the right towards Bush.)
On the off chance some righties have suggestions on how to effectively oppose Obama’s abuse of power, I’m all ears.
We lefties, with some notable exceptions, weren’t terribly effective opposing Bush’s abuses. So maybe a calmer, more thoughtful response will work better now.
Thinking about it…
The organizations opposing Obama’s abuses are criticizing from the left. Correct? I’m thinking of the ACLU, EFF (electronic freedom foundation, not the locals), Democracy Now, Salon, etc.
Is there anyone on the right criticizing? (I mean reality based criticism. Not the wild eyed nutso nonsense coming from the likes of Cynical and pudge.) Has anyone from the right participated in the lawsuits?
I just read the article you linked, and Greenwald’s previous posts.
Wow.
Execution without due process is illegal, ethically wrong, and unAmerican.
Terrorism is a law enforcement problem. Always has been.
That Obama would continue and expand Bush’s misguided failed policies turns my stomach.
Cheers, Jason
PS- I did see Greenwald’s link to the National Review’s opposition to the presidential death squads. So there is some reasoned opposition from the right. Baby steps.
@20
Yeah, as a nation, we developed a justice system that’s been the envy of the world and has kept our democracy intact for over 200 years. But for some reason, we’ve convinced ourselves that in order for the rest of the world to have a democracy as strong as ours, we’re turning our back on the principles that made it possible. It’s an outrage, and if it’s allowed to become the new normal, we will lose what we’ve all taken for granted.

Watson finishes -5!!! Amazing.
Els is -3
Couples birdied the 1st 2 holes.
Langer finished -1.
Augusta requires experience & skill. It’s not a typical blast away course. I love watching the Masters & US Open.
