Suuuuure…. we have NOTHING to worry about those medical pot folks:
Modesto medical-marijuana operators convicted in federal case (SFGate.com)
Two Modesto men are facing mandatory 20-year prison sentences after being convicted of running a medical-marijuana operation that federal prosecutors labeled a criminal enterprise, authorities said today.
“Scarmazzo and Montes made millions by exploiting and hiding behind California’s medical marijuana law,” said McGregor Scott, U.S. attorney in Sacramento. “In this case, there was no conflict between state and federal law, as their conduct was illegal under both.
Scarmazzo and Montes obtained a business license from the city of Modesto by falsely representing that their California Healthcare Collective would engage in “retail sales of natural health-care products,” authorities said. In reality, they limited their business to marijuana sales, authorities said.
The collective filed papers with Modesto stating that it earned more than $4.5 million while operating in the Central Valley city from 2004 to 2006, investigators said. But the evidence at trial showed that the defendants actually generated more than $9 million in sales.
Much of the money was used for personal purchases, such as Scarmazzo’s $184,000 Mercedes-Benz, prosecutors said.
Yet another example why individual growing of pot — medical or otherwise — should remain illegal. If it is a real medicine, treat it like a real medicine and get it at a pharmacy.

for helping to make this world a better place. In the latest issue of Left-friendly tech magazine Wired they talk about how they had high hopes for the impact of technology on politics:
… instead of spending a decade rebuilding civil society — reinventing how we resolve conflicts and build concensus — we got MoveOn and Daily Kos and Soros-funded 527’s that divert immense energy into the mud of politics, all in the naked pursuit of political power. This has resulted in one of the most toxic and least productive eras of public discourse in our history.
And this is coming from a publication that regularly promotes the left side of the aisle and its issues while poking at conservatives.
Does running a pressure washer for nine straight hours count? My fence now looks pristine pure and good as new…save for the odd board that ought to be replaced, but I’ll let the eventual purchaser of this place deal with that.
Since I tore my biceps and pectoralis muscles in my right arm back in February, I’m limited as to what I can do in the lifting and pulling department, which caused me to realize that things like lawn mowers and pressure washers and other small-engine-operated devices are made for right handed people.
Now, I’m left hended naturally (southpaw and kick with my left foot), but because of evil perfidy in the Arizona public school system, my 1st grade teacher took my crayons out of my left hand and put them in my right. I’m the only kid to have flunked penmanship.
So, I do have some right handed tendancies, such as pulling starter ropes. But one yank with my right was enough to convince me that doing that was pretty dumb – torn muscles take months to heal.

Please provide a link to where I said that. Not saying I didn’t, but it would provide context.
Regardless, ANY poll lead by McCain is a nice lead because if we’re to believe the Vocal Left and the Media, Obama is supposed to win in a Reagan-esque landslide.
Haven’t you heard the Lefty talking points on every news channel?? “Obama is a once-in-a-lifetime candidate beloved by all from Left to Right… Look at all the ‘Obamacans!’… Dem primary turnout is 10,000x greater than it is for Republicans and it shows just how much the public loves us!”
If you believe the above, the polls should be:
Obama – 75%
McCain – 25%
Hillary – Quit already so that we can crown the new king
BUT THEY AREN’T. Despite the Left’s feeble “3rd Bush Term” lies (those talking points are getting SO predictable), McCain is right in there.
What I really want to know is why the Far Left is so protective of their candidate. The HOWLS of protest from the Left when Obama went on Fox… vs. McCain inviting Lefty bloggers to his conference calls. Are they worried that Obama will “ummm” and “uhhh” his way through another interview without his TelePrompTer?
The fact remains that Obama is SORELY lacking in experience. You don’t put “community organizer” BS on your resume unless you got nothing else. He is, however, an excellent scripted speaker. I think he would be much better suited to take over a news anchor chair on one of the NBC channels. He’d make more money and would force NBC to put their money where their mouth is (i.e. if he’s so great, is he worth a seven-figure NBC investment?).
and you’re just recycling more right wing myths: “lefty press”, “far left”. Obama isn’t far left at all, I don’t care how many times he was in the same room with Bill Ayers. Obama’s record does not support that.
But at the end of the day, reality doesn’t count much for you does it?
Obama a “scripted speaker”. St. Ron Raygun wasn’t?
So Obama is just a “pretty face” to you? Qualified for those far lefties in the evil media making 7 figures. I see. His legislative record over the past 10 years or more apparently does nothing for you. Of course not, it doesn’t fit with the far right party line.
How down you are with the right wing narrative there Surreal Mark! You got that right wing messaging down pat.
36
The Real Markspews:
YLB @ 35
As I said, CONTEXT:
I wouldn’t bet your welfare check on that one. It is possible — if for no other reason than a knee-jerk reaction to Bush — but you should take a look at the latest polls. McCain is building a nice lead. That said, polls can be quite fluid. Instead, we should look at the Democratic Party’s incomparable ability to screw the pooch over and over and over.
Obama’s record… Other than voting “present” a zillion times (even John Edwards pointed that one out), the rest of his votes were lock-step Left.
“His legislative record over the past 10 years” Gimme a break. For one, 70% of that was being a state legislator (a part-time job) and a summer associate at a law firm. Hate to tell ya, but it is a hell of a jump from state legislature and junior lawyer to Leader of the Free World.
Of course, you wouldn’t see the press as being “lefty.” You agree with everything they say and they support your worldview. MSNBC is SO in the tank for Obama that it isn’t even funny. It is a bad thing when a left-leaning show on your sister network even calls you out for it.
“So Obama is just a “pretty face” to you? Qualified for those far lefties in the evil media making 7 figures. I see.”
Absolutely. I can confidently say that he is one of the most skilled TelePrompTer readers of our generation.

Don’t listen to me about Obama being a political lightweight. Listen to his own buddy Edwards.
How about just coming up with 4 to 6 major accomplishments. And don’t gimme this “Coburn-Obama Bill” crap. That’s just as much McCain’s baby. 3/4 of a BILLION dollars in earmarks is crap, too. McCain and his ZERO dollars trumps that a thousand- (or even $750,000,000)-to-1.
Show me major legislation that he has sponsored. Not just stuff he’s co-sponsored to get his name on something.
And as for the common Lefty comment of “yeah, but that’s pretty good for a junior Senator,” I’ll say that I agree. It isn’t good enough, though, for someone who wants to be President. Those defenses are like saying that the woman who can only shoulder 50 lbs. should be a firefighter beause “that’s really good for a girl.”

You have a lot of nerve making a statement like that after voting for the disaster in the White House twice.
And experience as I’ve noted in exchanges with you previously is hardly a perfect indicator of future success.
See Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld, Eliot Abrams, Douglas Feith and Paul Wolfowitz.
Oh what else…
The earmarks issue is pretty overblown. A very small percentage of a three trillion dollar federal budget. The true scandal is the skyrocketing GROWTH in earmark spending which accelerated in record amounts under the recent Republican Congresses. Even that has its motivators, namely a silly, stupid endless war policy that crowds out rational discretionary spending programs for such frivolous things as keeping bridges from collapsing. And then there’s tax cuts for people who didn’t need them. They seemed to get richer just fine under the previous president’s watch despite “suffering” those awful tax increases that right wingers said would tank the economy. Hint: it didn’t happen.
No earmarks from Arizona from McCain? Maybe so. But plenty of benefits for Alabama and France, no?
McCain has demonstrated by his poor political judgement, (McCain-Feingold, flirting with the Dem Party, opposing the Bush tax cuts) then running away from all of that just to get elected – that he is not fit for office. He currently offers more of the same that brought us November 2006 and expects to win on that.
I don’t think any thinking person could trust such a person to be put in charge of one branch of the government.
Edwards? Didn’t he just hand Obama his pledged delegates. You’re not making sense.

Oh here you go again with Obama/Coburn – oops, sorry, Coburn/Obama. So that was McCain’s baby? Sorry you’re wrong. That was just as much Carper’s baby as Coburn’s…
So that leaves why am I FOR Obama. Plain and simple – he’s a better politician than the competition and that’s what we vote for – a politican. I believe he will act on a much better agenda and accomplish quite a bit of it as he’s demonstrated in his legislative record. He will be hampered a lot by the mess left by the looters and pillagers who came before him but will deal with that mess a lot more competently than the other guy who seems to just want to do more of it just in his way.

You’re saying that you get Obama as a “gimme” screwup because the country voted for W?
Learn from the country’s mistakes. Bush had executive experience in a large state and failed. You think that EVEN LESS experience will be better?
You say that earmarks are overblown because it suits your candidates. Propose all the appropriations you want and VOTE ON IT. Earmarks = “sneaking crap in that you don’t think would pass muster.”
I never said Coburn’s bill was McCain’s baby. I said it was AS MUCH McCain’s as Obama’s (and likely more, but I haven’t read the history).
I don’t care why you’re for Obama. You say he has some great legislative record. Prove it. Cite some major legislation he has SPONSORED (not just co-sponsored or clung to). Explain all of the “present” votes. Yeah, THAT’s political courage. And the double-talk… He votes one way (as directed by Dem party leadership), but then tries to mitigate the damage by sounding like he supported the moderates (see: Gang of 14, etc.).

The “straight-talk”, the “maverick” are just myths designed to send a “tingle” to the hopelessly deluded like yourself.
It’s going to be so much fun this November…

You aren’t serious, are you?
1. Both of those are clearly within the margin of error.
2. Primary-time surveys don’t always translate to the general. Otherwise, we’d have had President Dukakis.
3. Those numbers are not weighted for the Electoral College.
4. Based on the Obama-rama-mania, he should be MUCH, MUCH farther in the lead. Or is it just good PR and “tingles up the leg” of pundits and newscasters?
Thanks for playing.’
Mark,
YLB=Your Liberal Bullshit is terrified he may actually have to get a job and work if McCain wins, and thats a thought he can’t possibly entertain, that would mean paying taxes and actually becoming a contributing member of society. Funny how a lot of the regular posters here don’t have real jobs huh? (Including Goldy)

Mary Jo Kopechne Left To Drown
Mary Jo Kopechne reportedly has suffered “death” and Kennedy spokesmen are now saying it’s not a “stroke” and she’s dead and buried so what does it matter. Little further objective coverage from a sycophantic media is available.
Kennedy should have had surgery several years ago for the blockage in his brain. Hard to tell how serious the situation is; we probably won’t get significant additional information for another 4 hours. Hopefully, his ignorant unpatriotic liberalism will have been eradicated.
With all the fuss you’d think Ann Coulter killed somebody. No, wait, that was Ted Kennedy.

34 – You said “nice lead” here:
http://www.horsesass.org/?p=4487#comment-759416
and you’re just recycling more right wing myths: “lefty press”, “far left”.
The Real Mark spews:
YLB @ 35
As I said, CONTEXT:

I’d go into Obama’s legislative accomplishments with you one by one but that’s too much of a dose of reality for you. Needless to say, there’s more there there than anything the chimp you voted for twice could claim at a similar point in his career.
Besides I wouldn’t want to spoil the fun of the unfolding right wing narrative.
Can’t shoot it down too quickly.

I note you ignored the rest, so I presume that silence implies consent?

Throw in his sense of entitlement and the attendant fits he’s thrown when he hasn’t gotten what he’s wanted and I don’t think any thinking person could trust such a person to be put in charge of one co-equal branch of the government.
Edwards? Didn’t he just hand Obama his pledged delegates?
The Real Mark spews:
YLB,
You’re saying that you get Obama as a “gimme” screwup because the country voted for W?
Here’s Edwards on Obama:

Obama = New Coke
A nice idea in concept, fancy packaging, much sweeter, lots of press, lots of “sampling” by the public, but ultimately a failure.
