The biggest crises in our financial history.
Obama said yesterday if you need me call me.
Wow! This is leadership now we know why he votes present.
It’s more important to have a debate than to help America.
Then he said today hold on wait for me I’m coming to Washington DC.
I’m sorry for the rude remarks I made about Senator McCain yesterday.
Mean while Bill Clinton is ripping Obama and the Democrat party for causing this financial mess during to the Democrat failures for voting NO on Freddie and Fannie.

“Every American has a stake in solving this crisis …”
“The clock is ticking but we have to get it right.”
First, we need a bipartisan board overseeing accountability.
Second, Americans should be treated like investors.
Third, we will not bail out Wall Street without helping homeowners.
Finally, not one dime to reward the same Wall Street CEO’s who got us in this mess. No welfare for Wall Street execs.
There are times for politics, and then there are times to rise above it.
This is no longer a Democratic or Republican problem. It is an American problem, requiring an American solution.
Question: Is McCain playing politics cancelling the debate?
Answer: This is exactly the time the American people need to hear from the people who will be dealing with this mess. … It’s more important than ever.
Lots of talk of bipartisanship … no bankruptcy reform in this package, and Republicans should hold off on their issues in this package.
Question: You staying in Florida or going back to DC?
Answer: If I can be helpful, I’ll go back. Talking to Paulson, Pelosi, Reid. As presidents, we’ll need to deal with more than one thing at a time.
Question: Should both you and McCain be present for vote for the package?
Answer: (Basically) yes, it’s important for the message.

McCain Puts Country First, Obama Says: Call me if you need me
September 24, 2008 by texasdarlin
John McCain put his campaign on hold today, and called on Barack Obama to join him in Washington, DC in a bi-partisan effort to address the country’s economic crisis. McCain also proposed re-scheduling Friday’s debate and suspending campaign commercials.
Barack Obama responded by a) attempting to take credit for McCain’s idea, b) attempting to take credit for McCain’s economic proposals, c) accusing McCain of playing political tricks, d) refusing to cancel Friday’s debate, and e) essentially telling America: I’m going to keep campaigning and I’m not going to Washington to address the financial crisis. Call me if you need me!
6
YellowPupspews:
Someone writing in to CNN just suggested that if McCain can’t make it to the debate tomorrow, he should send his VP nominee in his place, since isn’t that the VP’s job?
The joke of this is that McCain is still running his campaign. He didn’t appear on Letterman, but everywhere he has appeared since yesterday he’s just giving a campaign speech. This is ridiculous and entirely political.
7
Mr. Cynicalspews:
I hate seeing so much obvious politicking by both sides over this crisis under the umbrella of “we need to come together and put politics aside”.
Folks will have to judge for themselves who is worse on this politicking…McCain or Obama.
But it’s a shame.
I would like to see the Debate postponed for about a week or until a decision is reached on this. Otherwise the debate will be more politicking while a timebomb is ticking.

Chintonspews:
@5
Get real, McCain hasn’t even read the Paulson plan, doesn’t get the problem and has been making himself look like an idiot all week. But you go ahead and make yourself feel better and pretend McCain is a good guy to be in the lead.
Oh yea and wasn’t it Dodd that said yesterday I have talked to Obama a number of times on this issue but McCain hasn’t bothered to called. So much for leadership and “reaching across the isle.”
The job of president demands the ability to handle more than one issue at a time, apparently that’s out of McCain’s skill set.
9
Puddybudspews:
Chinton: Did Dodd call McCain? No? Shocking.
Did Dodd vote against regulations in 2005 Yes? Shocking.

@8,
Dodd the same guy who voted No on Freddie and Fannie. The guy who can look you in the eye and lie. Obama out of shame is going to DC today.
This is your leadership all naked and exposed to the American people.
I just hope obama votes his standard as present.

correctnotrightspews:
Poor John, been swallowing the republican kool-aid?
McCain is scared to debate – period.
The biggest financial crisis since the great depression was caused by republican legislation written by Phil Gramm to deregulate the banking industry. The 2005 bill would have done NOTHING to stop this crisis and was not even passed by a republican controlled congress – get your facts straight before showing what and idiot you are.
14

I love the trolls – have you even looked at the bill from 2005 that was never passed by the republican controlled congress – you guys are idiots mouthing false talking points.
15

@9: Did McCain call Dodd, (that is the pertinent question) – the chair of the committee – no, shocking! You ARE an idiot. If McCain is “coming to Washington” and looking for “bipartisan support” to fix the banking crisis than not even calling the chair of the committee that would put out the bill – is just assinine and negates his whole “I am a leader” false premise.
16
correctnotrightspews:
@7: Actually the debate has been pretty good so far, most democrats and republicans agree that the bush plan is pathetic, that there has to be more oversight by congress (not just whatever Paulson says), that executive salaries cannot be exorbitant, that other measures need to be taken to ensure the companies don’t do the same thing again and that the people should be helped more than the greedy wall street bankers who got us in this mess to begin with.
Check out Obama’s priciples for a bailout – they are similar to the above.
17
correctnotrightspews:
@5: So much for the country first – McCain is really just using this as an excuse not to debate, the dog ate my debate preparation would not have gone over as well.
Now, they want to cancel the VP debate – I wonder why? they are dropping in the polls and fear an actual debate. Remember, Rick Davis (the lobbyist for freddie mac) is running the show.
18
Mr. Cynicalspews:
Ummm.. McCain is behind in many of the polls.
If he is losing, why would he be afraid to debate??
Your fantasizing makes zero sense.

I asked the vendor to give me some information I needed. First I got an “out of office reply”. Then two minutes later I get a message directly from him, which states in essence (personal details omitted):
“My brother died unexpectedly, I will be out of town until Monday. In the meantime, I have already transferred my request for information to others in his group, and I will be monitoring to make sure they get back to you with the requested information. In the meantime, I will be available by cell phone to answer questions or help in any way that I can, with the caveat that I will have the phone turned off during the actual memorial service”.
And John McCain can’t show up for a debate that’s been planned for weeks, because he has to deal with a “crisis” that’s been in the works and readily apparant for the better part of two years?

The point is pretty clear. Many of us deal with devastating, life changing experiences that require our undivided attention and still manage to keep our lives going. We have to..
The quality of your reaction and how *proactive* you are about managing your life in your -required- absence is a measure of centeredness, decision making ability and leadership.
Obama does have a point in that you have to be able to do more than one thing at a time if you’re President as crises don’t look for openings on your schedule.
And honestly, if you’re going to suspend your campaign, then stand down. Meaning, have all your surrogates pitch in to help formulate a plan for financial recovery instead of having them continue to campaign. Otherwise, be honest and call it what it is, “I’m OOF, and Tucker’s gonna carry on in my place.”
