    The basis of the crime-fraud exception that Judge Howell found last week when ordering Trump criminal defense attorney Evan Corcoran to appear and give testimony about his attorney client relationship now appears to be this;

    On more than one occasion client Trump lied to Attorney Corcoran about the classified documents he had stolen and hidden in the basement of his Florida sex club. Those specific lies concerning specific classified documents and records are credibly connected to significant criminal violations alleged to have been committed by Trump the client.

    Corcoran’s testimony, if it is truthful and if it conforms to these reports, will be central to making an indictment of criminal obstruction against Trump.

    If Corcoran’s testimony is as expected Trump will be indicted by a federal grand jury this spring on felony charges.

    With respect to this federal criminal indictment of Trump on felony obstruction a few things will be very relevant to the 2024 Republican primary.

    Recall that most Republican state primary races are “winner-take-all” or “winner-take-most” affairs. That means that, depending on each state’s rules, the candidate winning the most votes in that state primary, regardless of percentage, wins all or most of the delegates to be awarded by that state. In a crowded field that gives Trump a massive advantage out of the gate. If as polling indicates these ongoing criminal prosecutions trigger an outpouring of partisan support among base Republican primary voters for Trump, then this further improves upon Trump’s already excellent chances of prevailing in early primaries.

    Moreover, with Trump as a leading primary candidate under multiple criminal indictments, it will draw substantial media attention to his primary campaign, and thus deprive other campaigns of the media focus and attention they need. Many primary voters in “not-Florida” states could not at this point pick Ron DeSantis out of a lineup. That will undoubtedly change somewhat as he continues to develop his “not announced” campaign this spring and this summer. But his national profile will continue to be hampered by his not resigning and announcing. So pressure will increase for Fat Midget to step down and announce. But by stepping down as Governor he will have deprived himself of his biggest stage.

    And as the criminal cases against Trump develop, and the media focus concentrates more and more on Trump, the other candidates will increasingly be pressured to have to decide whether they can afford to continue to lend their support to “Trump-the-criminal-defendant” which has the effect of lending their support to Trump the candidate.

    The basic Republican impulse to side with Trump against the DOJ is not compatible with the basic Republican impulse to “move on from Trump”. At some point something will have to give. By now, we know that the extreme right-wing talk networks will follow their audience no matter what. But if candidates like Fat Midget, or down ballot incumbents like David Valadao, Anthony D’Esposito, or Lori Chavez-DeRemer follow the impulses of their base voters into defending Trump they will be handing their general election challengers a 5 point bump.

    But multiple criminal indictments of Donald J. Trump do not improve his chances of winning the support of hundreds of thousands of politically detached, non-partisan voters in swing states in November. How the rabid, angry, disillusioned mobs of aging, white conservative talk media addicts respond is entirely irrelevant. That’s not the kind of statement that rabid, angry, disillusioned, aging, white, conservative talk media addicts are able to take in and process. Their entire lives have been arranged to confirm their relevance. Part of the reason they are so angry is that the world is moving on without them and outside of the confines of their own supportive media bubbles they really are no longer relevant.

    Neither Trump nor Biden (nor Fat Midget) can win a national general election without winning the support of hundreds of thousands of swing state, non-partisan, politically detached voters. These voters don’t care about the partisan grievances. To them, a crook is untrustworthy.

    Imagine a scenario, Donald is the presumptive nominee going into the convention. He’s got the delegates. It’s a done deal.

    The GOP is faced with, do something unprecedented with the rules and choose a nominee, fracturing the party and leading to the distinct possibility of violence on the convention floor spilling out into the streets of Milwaukee where, yeah…they aren’t particularly welcome (Biden 318,000, Donald 134,000 2020).

    Or, have their nominee fighting multiple felony counts (appealing convictions) in court needing to be off the Campaign trail for much of the General as he is required to attend proceedings highlighting for all of NOT MAGA America that the GOP is sticking with a guy who has a distinct possibility of being sentenced to prison before he can swear the oath.

    There are no good options for the Institutional GOP other than to get seriously behind DeFascist and risk the wrath of MAGA.

    A side thought, how many rallies and in which states can a defendant who spent the day in court in Manhattan until 4pm-ish Eastern appear while still being back in Manhattan by 9am the following day?

    The risk from Nov 2020 to Jan 2021 was that you had unlawfully appointed principle officers at DHS and DOJ who went along with all the planning and preparation for the insurrection. They arranged tours, for fuck’s sake. They deliberately intervened to ensure that the Capitol would be vulnerable and understaffed with inadequately equipped police. They put complex obstacles and trip-wires in place to prevent and delay support for those understaffed and improperly equipped police.

    Hours and hours of video of city cops shooting blast balls, pepper balls, and CS at violent armed mobs of Republicans is political porn for me. That’s not “risk”. That’s Democrat Disneyland.

    I agree that the “institutional GOP” lacks good options here. But I’m not so sure that the consensus will settle around Fat Midget, nor that any real consensus can be reached in time.

    As I see it the “institutional GOP” has been substantially re-made in Trump’s own image over the last seven years. Four successive Congressional elections have inverted GOP ranks in both the House and Senate, obviously less so in the Senate where it matters less. But fifteen rounds of humiliation and groveling for Kevin McCarthy show one thing more than any other. And that is that in 2023 Trump dominates powerful segments of his party at the highest levels. And if any “institutional Republican” thinks the GOP House majority seems divided around Trump, they won’t find comfort in the state party leadership.

    Republicans have adopted admirable message discipline surrounding their own infighting. But that doesn’t mean it hasn’t existed or that it hasn’t weakened their ability to reach political consensus when it matters most.

    And putting aside the very real and reasonable doubts that the GOP can resolve disagreements about Trump, this all assumes that Trump gives a single fuck what the “institutional GOP” wants or cares about. It should not be overlooked that Trump is very convinced that his candidacy provides him with some kind of legal advantage in fighting the multiple criminal charges he will be facing. Should the “institutional GOP” settle their many disagreements about MAGA, and the future direction of the party and coalesce around a different nominee, there remains a MASSIVE likelihood that Trump will continue to run as an independent.

    None of the likely scenarios representing choices made by the “institutional GOP” promise good outcomes.

    And not for nothing, the advancing developments in Trump criminal indictments have not hurt his chances among likely Republican primary voters. The most recent Monmouth shows Trump improving over Fat Midget. It’s possible that is a rallying effect associated with Trump legal peril. It’s also likely to be the result of the Trump campaign having officially launched and having begun direct outreach to these voters – something Fat Midget is forbidden to do. If that trend continues for any length of time it may leave the “institutional GOP” with not real option left but to get on board the Trump Train one more time.

    A recent analysis shows Pence has zero support, having alienated non-Trump Republicans by supporting Trump too much, and Trump Republicans by not supporting him enough.

    Last June, having discovered a shit ton of stolen highly classified materials hidden in a damp basement store room of a Florida sex club belonging to Donald J. Trump, and hoping to avoid a compulsory search warrant, the head of DOJ Counter-Intel Div Jay Bratt asked the lawyers representing the idiot to please, pretty please go back through everything, if it isn’t too much trouble, and make sure we’ve got all the stolen loot back so we can all just get on with our lives. In response, Trump’s criminal def atty Evan Corcoran handed Bratt a single manila folder with a couple of dozen pages along with an sworn statement saying that they’d made a diligent search and this was all they could find. Honest.

    Of course we all know that the search warrant executed in August turned up about a hundred more highly classified stolen documents that had been hidden from the DOJ.

    And by doing this very dishonest thing that he did way back in June, Evan Corcoran made himself an eyewitness to crimes by his client. This is never a good look for any attorney. And so it was that last week, Chief Judge Beryl Howell found that the crime-fraud exception to attorney client privilege was met and that Corcoran would have to testify against his own client. Late Tuesday Trump’s other lawyers, having apparently slept late all weekend, finally got around to filing a motion for a stay. The DC appellate panel took only a few hours to laugh and sip coffee and laugh some more before issuing their ruling today telling Corcoran to get his notes together and present himself to the grand jury to be sworn.

    The panel was clearly not amused. They gave the stupid shits only a few hours to get their stupid, baseless brief drafted and filed. And DOJ had to have their response in by 6am the next morning. That left the panel and staff about exactly how long it takes to wipe the coffee spit off their computer screens and draft the orders into the system. By 3pm the orders were in. Loser Trump lost again.

    Corcoran is scheduled to appear before the grand jury tomorrow.
    Somebody is well and truly fucked. And this time I don’t think it’s the lawyer.

    edmond Police detectives arrested a local man last week after he allegedly had sexual contact with a male minor in 2020 while attending The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Redmond. Buckland L. Darrell, 44, of Redmond, has been charged with first-degree child molestation.

    The victim recently came forward with more details from the 2020 incident, leading to Darrell’s arrest.

    In 2022, Darrell was charged with a separate incident of first-degree child molestation in another jurisdiction. Darrell was arrested for this offense and released on bail last year.

    The two cases have similarities in that the victims were both male and under ten years of age, and the incidents occurred near or in the presence of the victims’ parents.

    Evidence from the investigations led to Redmond detectives arresting Darrell on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. He is being held on $200,000 bail at King County Jail.

    Darrell has attended many church events and gatherings. Redmond police believe there are potentially more minor victims and are asking anyone with information to please contact the Redmond Police Department tip line at 425-556-2500.

    Something occurred to me this week with these most recent convictions and sentences.

    There’s not a lot of capacity in the federal system for favorable assignments for persons convicted of violent felonies. Rest assured there are plenty of soft beds for Martha Stewart and other white-collar criminals. But the regulations are not flexible. And the housing options for people convicted of these kinds of crimes are limited. Consequently most of these Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, etc. taking their cases to trial are going to get time in a big kid facility. I’m not saying they are going to be housed with narco-terrorists and highly violent street gang killers. But they are going to be housed in units and in cells with people convicted in federal courts of serious and violent felonies.

    And three years is a fucking eternity to be stuck in one of those facilities. Nazi Girl’s life is ruined.
