The state party and Democratic Governor’s Assn spending on Trumpaloompas in GOP primaries is not what a dumbfuck supposes, or at least pretends to suppose.
Modern political scientists and campaign consultants who specialize in modeling turnout and producing communications campaigns to affect turnout will advise these kinds of ad buys when their model of the GOP November turnout supports it.
The point of this spending is not to help the Trumpaloompa lunatic primary candidate win. The point of the spending is to demoralize a targeted segment of GOP base voters when the Trumpaloompa loses. The objective is to suppress November turnout among specifically targeted GOP voters in certain states. Building GOP base voter support for Hanks among a Colorado GOP electorate that is starkly divided about THE BIG LIE is intended to help the Democratic candidate in November.
Part of what makes this kind of spending potentially more effective is that, if it works as intended by suppressing opposing turnout, it boosts all of your candidates. Colorado is probably calculated to be a rich target for this kind of spending because of the number of statewide partisan elections being conducted along with the demographics specific to GOP voters in the state.

Elijah Dominic McDotcom spews:
21,
I’m not entirely clear why the DOJ would seek to compel this testimony. I don’t entirely see how corroborating Hutchinson’s testimony about Trump’s violent outburst would really alter the underlying criminal evidence. And moreover I think it is potentially distracting.
Yes, Preznit Pringles was a terrible human being who had lapsed into violent madness by the end of his only term. But that doesn’t get you a felony conviction. What does help get you a conviction is testimony corroborating that it was Trump’s desire and intention to send an armed, violent mob to interrupt the electoral vote count. Evidence that he choked his driver or tried to wrest control of a moving SUV away from Secret Service agents perhaps goes to demonstrate the sincerity of criminal intent. But it’s hardly crucial.
So far I haven’t heard any of Trump’s defenders claim that he didn’t incite the armed mob to go to the Capitol. Nor have I heard them deny that he wanted to accompany the mob against the directions of the security team. Those are the most important, most relevant, and most substantial claims. Throwing violent trantrums is merely icing on the cake. And that it has the potential to distract is proven by the way Trump World has latched onto it. They want to partially discredit an irrelevant detail as a way of discrediting all the rest of the criminality, which they now know is entirely true. We’ve seen this movie before.

Elijah Dominic McDotcom spews:
Testimony from Secret Service agents confirming that it was Trump’s desire and intention to lead an armed mob to the Capitol in order to interrupt the joint session would be far more incriminating. It would be devastating.
Personally I never would have imagined that he had become this unhinged. Not because of the choking and grabbing. But because of these orders, specific demands, and statements made in front of multiple witnesses that go directly to criminal intent. At least in the past Trump had often been far more careful and limited, relying more on implication.
Elijah Dominic McDotcom spews:
To understand why Trump’s demands may be far more important than any choking, consider one of Degen’s favorite face-painted terrorists, Jake Angeli.
The reason Mr. Angeli stands convicted of a felony and sentenced to years in prison is because he told the FBI that the reason he broke into the Capitol was to stop the joint session.

Many urge we do not confront Donald Trump, that we look away, and that is certainly the easier path. One need only look at the threats facing the witnesses who have come before the Jan. 6 committee to understand the nature and magnitude of that threat, but to argue the threat posed by Donald Trump can be ignored is to cast aside the responsibility that every citizen, everyone must not do that, and we cannot do that.”

Worth putting in the historical record, when the greedy racist incel claims it was nothing.
House Jan 6 Public Hearings, Day 6 – 06/28/2022
After his speech on 1/6, Trump demanded that he go to the Capitol. When his Secret Service told him that wasn’t possible, he tried to grab the steering wheel the Secret Service SUV and assaulted his secret service agent.
Trump was aware that his supporters were armed, and tried to get the metal detectors removed that prevented people from getting into his speech with weapons because they “weren’t there to harm me”, with me being Trump.
Mark Meadows knew Trump didn’t want to stop the rioters, and didn’t even do anything about it until WH Counsel basically forced him to go talk to Trump.
Trump and WH Counsel were talking about the Pence death chants right before Trump sent out the Pence tweet at 2:24, and Meadows acknowledged to WH Counsel that Trump thought Pence deserved to die and agreed with the rioters.
The only people able to reach the President were members of Fox News (Sean Hannity). Not his children, not WH staff, not his Chief of Staff – only Fox News people.
Meadows requested that the language about pardoning the rioters be included in Trump’s statement. We all know later that Meadows requested a pardon from Trump.
Several witnesses had people reach out to them in an attempt to intimidate or influence their testimony/deposition, and the committee knows who those people are.
Michael Flynn invoked the 5th amendment when being asked if he believes in the peaceful transition of power. He also pleaded the 5th when being asked if he believed the violence on 1/6 was justified morally and/or legally.
There were 3 general camps of administration/campaign officials with regards to how the administration should respond to the insurrection: Camp 1 included those who wanted the President to condemn the violence, Camp 2 were the “neutral” people, and Camp 3 was the “deflect and blame” people who wanted to claim it was Antifa/BLM. Meadows was in the Camp 3.
DOJ and USSS were aware of plans for armed rioters at capital days in advance of Jan 6. Police were reporting armed rioters before the attack.
Trump directed Mark Meadows to contact Michael Flynn and Roger Stone who met with members of the Proud Boys the day before January 6th. Meadows spoke to them by phone after being convinced not to travel to the hotel where they were meeting.

Dollars are merely a medium for seeking votes; they are not votes. @94 Strange that Biden supports a filibuster carveout for abortion but not for voting rights.
In one of my recent Handbill.US posts, I proposed a compromise solution to the filibuster problem, precisely along those lines: I.e., carveouts for essential legislation like abortion and privacy rights, protecting the right to pray to your own god instead of the coach’s, and children’s right to take My Little Pony lunchboxes with rainbows to school without being arrested, rightsizing the Supreme Court, and so on.
The filibuster would still be retained for Republican legislation to censor reporters, expand the definition of libel to include criticism of Trump, require Handbill.US to post Mark Adams comments, jail people for handing a water bottle to their spouse in a voting line, and impose the death penalty for casting a provisional ballot that wasn’t counted.

I thought a recession was 3 consecutive quarters.
Not until the first time the Q2 numbers are announced. Then the NBER will change it to three.
You think I’m being sarcastic, don’t you? Just watch.
Seriously, although it lasted only several weeks, the crash in early 2020 was deemed a recession. There’s some wiggle room in the new “definition”. When it was a straight two quarters of negative growth, it was a lot easier.
Using the current definition there are a couple (I just counted – three) of periods during the post-Great Recession Obama presidency that could have been deemed recessionary if the precise NBER wording was enforced. Recall that Obama did preside over one down year in the stock markets. They weren’t recessionary to me – I made a shit-ton of money when Obama was president. Deathfrogg no doubt feels differently.
We’re in recession, now, and the only questions I have about it are 1) severity and 2) duration. People have run up their credit cards and borrowed against their home equity, and not many are talking about it. That will change, beginning at the end of next month.

Elijah Dominic McDotcom spews:
156,
The Florida constitution (and quite a few other states) includes specific legal protections for individual privacy rights.
But even at the federal level there will be normal due process challenges (as opposed to substantive due process). Laws which are so vague or imprecise as to be impossible for a reasonable prosecutor to enforce fairly and consistently, or even understand, violate common due process guarantees. Many of the uterus-control performance art laws passed by recent Republican state legislatures are so ungrounded in the normal practice of medicine and reproductive health care that already there are prosecutors refusing to consider them without modifications. Are the common treatment practices surrounding miscarriage included in the sweep of these “life at conception” laws? Are some forms of birth control now criminalized? Are IVF procedures criminalized?
It’s simply not clear. Not merely because the laws themselves rely on bad language lacking in well understood meanings, but also because the lawmakers themselves have consistently muddied the record. Writing a law that defines “human life at the moment of conception” in order to please a more superstitious segment of voters, they’ve often then verbally backtracked in their own record making statements suggesting that for unclear or unspecified reasons their law would not apply to normal, routine reproductive medical procedures. Judges and prosecutors who are left to work it out on their own, without clear guidelines, and facing blatant contradictions in the record will face legal challenges to their decisions and lawsuits because of that vagueness or uncertainty.
We will now probably enter into a period in which a cottage legal industry arises in the most reactionary states devoted to challenging prosecutions and suing to block vague laws. If the federal courts apply consistent principles and remedies they will call upon these state legislatures to write specific laws spelling out exactly what medical procedures and treatments are unlawful. But there’s is always a chance that somewhere out there, there exists an aging, degenerate, liver-spotted, appointed-for-life judge who wants to make D&Cs unlawful. I for one will not be surprised.

@195 Hershel Williams was an Iwo Jima hero. John Hemingway, who will turn 103 on July 17 and currently lives in Ireland, is the only Battle of Britain pilot (“the few”) still alive. I would guess that when he passes, his funeral will be a very big deal in the British Isles. Probably Westminster, flyovers, and everything.

Original intent, you know. Black people couldn’t have guns in 1781, and what was good enough then, is sacred now.

Supreme Court to take on controversial election-law case

At issue is a legal theory that would give state legislatures unfettered authority to set the rules for federal elections, free of supervision by the state courts and state constitutions.
If I understand this correctly, Republicans are arguing that the Us Constitution vests the power of elections to state legislatures and legislatures alone. Thus, no local, state, or federal court should have a say in how the legislature runs elections.
Under this theory, the most gerrymandered maps in America would be legal because the legislature says so — regardless of the courts and potentially regardless of federal law. The state legislators can completely ignore vote counts under their own discretion and send whatever electors they want to vote.
They brought back Forced Birth. Why not this?

“@190 What if God decides to pull a little joke on him, and all his grandchildren are born gay?”
I doubt the probability of that, but not to say maybe his nephew or niece, or grand children. Which goes to show you that until that happens he don’t give a shit, nor when it happens does he really give a shit about them. So it equates to him being a Piece of Shit. Not only a Piece of Shit, but a fucking Freedomless Mother Fucking Neanderthal Piece of Shit.
May God strike the Piece of Shit dead instead!
