1. Rioters who fought their way in. Broke glass, beat the crap out of Capitol Police, and made it inside.

By my estimation somewhere around 2500 people who technically committed crimes that day are still at large not yet facing any charges.
A great many of them will have already been contacted by SAs from their local FBI office and interviewed. Perhaps unwisely, many of them probably gave cooperative interviews, expressed remorse, admitted to knowing better, and professed no serious criminal intent. Maybe they got overly excited and just followed some violent assholes. But they weren’t carrying weapons. They didn’t attack cops. They left when they were told to leave.
Some others are still waiting. 3000 interviews is a lot. And there’s so much evidence that the FBI is relying on hundreds of private citizens to comb through the thousands of hours of video using facial recognition software and do follow up social media research. Tips pour in and sit in the hopper for weeks and even for months in a few cases.
Plenty of dupes and suckers who were present and violated the law that day have been interviewed and left alone. I have to tell you – that video posted @137, not sure where that was taken, but if it is out West (which is my guess), or otherwise the South – shows that there is more of a political discourse problem in those areas than out here in the East.

Oregon is not at all what you think it is.
It was originally proposed by founding citizens as a potential slave state. Then following the Missouri Compromise when that become impossible the statehood promoters switched gears and instead proposed for Oregon to be a whites-only enclave where “freed men and former slaves” would be forbidden to settle. At statehood (prior to the 14th Amendment) state laws were enacted that made it so. Oregon remained a virulently racist, extremist whites-only enclave until well after passage of the 14th and 15th Amendments. State and local laws remained on the books (some still do) with zero challenge from federal authorities.
By the 20th century Oregon came to have more KKK membership than any other state outside of the deep south, with more than 50,000 members by the 1920s. To this day Oregon remains one of the most racially segregated and racially polarized places in the US.
The political polarization you see being enacted in Portland is a direct consequence of that legacy, and those lingering belief systems. Enclaves of white supremacists in outlying counties surrounding the Portland metro area responded to Trump’s triumphant rise in the GOP and winning of the election as a call-to-action. They began organizing and conducting violent confrontations in downtown Portland.
It’s a toxic brew. Writer Chuck Palahniuk wrote the novel Fight Club while working for Freightliner in Portland. The novel and the movie adapted from it came to represent a cultural touchstone for a generation of disaffected suburban young adult males raised on mall-culture consumerism. Palahniuk’s glorification and ennobling of violence and his reverence for existential chaos and nihilism informed the otherwise empty moral lives of an emerging generation of Millennial and GenX tech-bros.
Joining up with a quasi-organized tech-mob of lunkhead weekend warriors gives these people’s lives purpose and direction they would otherwise lack. But I must add, they are not entirely wrong in their approach. If the 1960s taught us anything at all, it is that non-violent confrontation doesn’t work.
