– The framing of Marie Gluesenkamp Perez’ victories as a model for rural districts is a bit strange to me. She did better in the Portland suburbs than the rural parts of the district.
– Right to repair is law in Washington.
– More to every type of housing, including flats.
– Call your legislator or member of Congress.
The media framing of Gluesenkamp Perez’s support is typically very inaccurate.
She may be able to carve out incumbency by appealing to working class “moderates”. But the media, consisting far too often of somewhat over-educated, younger, or more affluent older whites, tend to misunderstand the leanings and motivations of these working class “moderate” voters because they honestly don’t know any of them.
These voters are most certainly not the mythical “socially progressive, fiscally conservative” voters that media white people conceive. And I think the support patterns for Gluesenkamp Perez illustrate that. She doesn’t do well with the more rural parts of her district where church attendance, racism, early pregnancy, traditional family structure, and very low levels of educational acheivement dominate. But it’s a mistake to think that working class always equals “rural” and “uneducated”. Of course we shouldn’t really be surprised if graduates of Reed don’t get that the person who fixes their Subaru is not a high school drop out who fucks their cousin.
Call it “Blue Dog” or call it anything you like. But don’t mistakenly assume that these voters want abortion bans, school vouchers, school prayer, and massive cuts to public health, and public assistance. A lot of them voted for Gluesenkamp Perez because the image of a successful woman running a growing business in a trade dominated by men is something they recognize as familiar to them and comforting, even if the media don’t normally see it. And you won’t find these voters on a dairy farm or in a mega church. You’ll find them in suburbs raising non trad families working in hospitality, food service, transportation, and manufacturing. A bunch of them are women with their own businesses. A bunch of them are non-white.
Yesterday ICE Fat Asses put about a dozen men on a flight destined for South Sudan, a country in a civil war, in direct defiance of a binding federal court order they had just received.
Today the judge in the case issued an order to ICE to notify all the agency personnel involved that they are now subject to criminal contempt charges.
The $45,000 bonus won’t be nearly enough.
In today’s unhealthy news,

United Health is an utterly corrupt corporation. Hopefully they’ll be sued into oblivion. Criminal charges would be nice, too, but Trump’s DoJ is too busy bringing bogus felony charges against Democrats who push their way through crowds to go after real criminals.
@1 “A bunch of them are non-white.”
This is exactly why Fat Hitler is deporting non-whites and importing whites. It’s about political power. When he’s not busy stealing from his supporters, he’s building up the white supremacy power base and tearing down the progressive one.
By the way, when did pushing your way through a crowd become a felony? It didn’t except in the wild imaginings of Pam Bondi and Alina Habba. If Rep. McIver is guilty of a crime, so is every American who ever attended a sporting event, concert, or rode a New York subway.
I hope they’re having fun with their attorney licenses while they still have them.
5,
As previously mentioned in these comments, the federal felony charge requires a finding of fact that “serious bodily harm” resulted.
We will all very quickly get used to regarding prosecutions brought by this DOJ as the sad jokes in bad taste that they are.
Today’s stock market selloff is directly related to the GOP’s profligate spending on non-essentials like Trump’s “Star Wars” and mass deportations, and its irresponsible tax cuts for highly profitable corporations and very rich people.

Practice tip: You can’t keep cutting revenues and increasing spending and expect deficits to shrink, even if you’re raising taxes on the working and middle classes with tariffs.

Nobody is blaming Isreal for the war, or atleast I’m not but yet I can hold Isreal on their mission to exterminate all Palestinians from Gaza and steal their land.
Fuck him. You exterminate one group and try to justify it then no group is safe, including Christians

I would like to point out that Rep. McIver has not been indicted by a grand jury (and probably never will be). Rather, the charges against her are in the form of a “criminal complaint” filed with the magistrate of the U.S. District Court in New Jersey. What’s more, it’s signed by a DHS special agent, not a prosecutor or lawyer. That’s because no lawyer is going to risk their license by putting their name on this piece of shit. He didn’t sign it either; he attested to it “by telephone.” This is pure theater, see for yourself below, and it will be dismissed.

It might not be dismissed. They have time still. And this DOJ has proven itself reliable to toads and thugs in the ranks willing to trade away ALL of their credibility in a single throw (Emil Bove) that their legs are wide open and they are down to fuck.
They just have to suborn perjury in an affidavit and before a grand jury. Then it’s off to the races. I still think their biggest hurdles are going to be intent and serious bodily injury.
They’ll need one “eyewitness” to falsely claim she shouted “C’mon y’all! Let’s OFF these white pigs!”*. Then they’ll need an MD to testify that an “otherwise perfectly healthy” 340 lb, 43-year-old ICE Fat Ass who hasn’t seen his own penis in twenty years of donuts and farting in Chevy Suburbans is now “suddenly” crippled with ruptured anal fistulas from being bumped into.
Easy peasy.

@33 Based on this article, it appears the half dozen or so GOP senators opposed to the House bill won’t allow steep Medicaid cuts that threaten rural health care, so it appears that either they’ll have to pare back spending, give up some tax cuts, or deficits will explode even further.
The bond and stock markets fired a warning shot across their bow this week about deficits.
I have a suggestion: The country can’t afford the House bill’s spending of $150 billion for immigration enforcement, and another $150 billion for new Pentagon spending.
Exempting tips from taxation is also a bad idea, because it will cost billions in revenue, and in addition, encourage employers to play games with wages in order to reclassify hourly pay as tips.
They also ought to restore funding for IRS enforcement against wealthy tax cheaters, because that produces more revenue than it costs.
Closing the gap between spending and revenue, which absolutely requires doing things on the revenue side, will lower interest rates which also will help reduce deficits.
The Medicaid program isn’t wasting hundreds of billions of dollars, and the House GOP’s math depends on cutting off tens of millions of lower income Americans from health care, and defunding rural hospitals and health clinics, many of which will close and leave their communities without health care. Around half a dozen GOP senators are saying they won’t vote for that. That number should be many more, but whatever.
The House GOP’s scheme all along was to gut Medicaid, creating health care deserts and millions of uninsureds in the process, and the GOP Senate is saying “no” to that. Solving this impasse with bigger deficits will trigger a bond market revolt, raise interest rates, and push the economy into recession.
To avoid that, House Republicans will have to take out the DHS and military spending increases, new tax cuts, and they also should take up Trump on his offer to accept restoration of the 39.6% marginal tax rate, which of course means nothing without IRS enforcement.
There will still be a big debt increase, but Republicans can limit the damage in the financial markets and to the economy, and get the so-called “big, beautiful bill” through the Senate, by removing its most irresponsible elements.
Oh, and a couple more things on the spending side: The government shouldn’t spend a penny to acquire or refurbish that Qatar airplane, nor should one cent be spent to resettle Afrikaaner “refugees” in the U.S. — they should pay for that themselves, or through private donations.
Milwaukee County just released courthouse video of the incident leading to the judge’s arrest.

The no tax on tips is a feel good measure for Senators to take to the July 4th picnics (jokes on you that’s not a day off for wait staff) that won’t effect anything, really.
Why?
The measure is no tax on CASH tips, i.e. the tips that in the ubiquitous credit/debit card age aren’t getting reported anyway. Federally, and in most income tax states, a server is required to report their total tips OR a percentage of their sales as income whichever is greater. Three things come into play. A lot of tipping establishments under report their sales revenue. Cash tips are increasingly rare. Credit Card tips usually come damn close to hitting the percent threshold so the employee will report a small fraction of cash tips.
Cash tips for most tipped people is “play money.” How do you spot a fellow server at your bar? They came in after 10:30pm and they are paying cash.
Did you catch the bit where the House GOP slipped in clause that bans and retroactively nullifies injunction against the Executive branch.
Neat trick but even the Roberts court isn’t going to let ALL their power be stripped. Thomas authors the dissent Because he’s got an RV trip planned and it’s just easier to not have to do any work at all.
Wild filing
In local news, Seattle city Council overturn the ethics rules that bar council members from voting on measures in which they have a direct financial stake. The next step that we all are coming, is to overturn renters protections as two members of the council on rental properties. Inequity move council president here Nelson cut the comments short and did not allow the two council people who voted against it to speak because they “aren’t on the committee that’s relevant“ And the council members needed to go to retirement for the UW president so no real tine for debate.
@52 Who’s gifting him the RV this time? Is it bigger and better than his last “free” RV?
Notice how republicans went from “Harvard discriminates against Asians” to “Harvard is colluding with the Chinese!!” as soon as they won the election.

Serious question: I try to tip in cash. But is it a problem if a couple of $20s or a $50 bill are dropped onto the signed CC receipt? Does that screw the back of the house staff? Does it cause more trouble than it’s worth, and I should just add it to the CC tab and get my 2% cash back?

And now for the case of Zachary Alam. He’s the Jan. 6 rioter who smashed the door panel that domestic terrorist Ashli Babbitt tried to climb through a few moments later. The federal judge who sentenced Alam to 8 years in prison described him as “one of the most violent and aggressive rioters.”
But this chronic abuser of alcohol and drugs is back on the streets because Trump pardoned him. What’s he doing now? Robbing his neighbors. He was arrested two weeks ago for burglarizing an occupied dwelling in his hometown. Since this is a state crime, Trump can’t pardon him for this crime, so maybe he’ll stay locked up this time.

Usually no. Unless you’ve worked in the industry it’s hard to understate the for lack of a better word ‘family’ of it. Are there shitty servers who screw back of house? Sure. But everyone knows how hard, physically, that job is. Do you sometimes not tip out to make rent, yes. Do you make it up as soon as you can, also yes.
Do you not tip out the creep line cook who ‘brushes up’ against you or your fellow servers. You bet.
