It’s really interesting to me to ponder the effects of a freak like Robinson on the ballot in NC and the potential for high percentages of ballot crossing by Republican voters to vote for Stein. Conventional political theory says that at the very least this creates an opening for Democrats elsewhere on the ballot to persuade some of those Republican voters to give them a look.
That’s where a local communication strategy combined with a carefully targeted canvassing operation can be vital. I don’t know all that much about the NC Democratic Party, except that they’ve gotten a lot of support in recent years in candidate recruitment and local organizing. But if these folks are like party organizers and political pros in other states they will see and understand the opportunity this presents to them and they will be working their asses off right now to take advantage, not just for the candidates but for their own careers as well. It’s a very big deal. I hope it pays off.

And it’s abundantly obvious that even after adjusting for inflation on AVERAGE individuals and households are earning more. But no average individual describes their own wellbeing or income having improved. Why would that be? How would that be?

I see this as a profound failure by Biden and Democrats. They should have done more to improve income equality and distribution. And so should have Obama. As Senate Republicans go there’s nothing particularly objectionable about Nebraska’s Deb Fischer. So the fact that she finds herself trailing her opponent in the most recent poll is perhaps an indication of something else going on. She did herself no favors by staking out in 2012 a pledge to only serve two terms. And Democrats are using that plege against her in this election. But this is a state that Trump won by almost 20 points in 2020.
And her opponent is a more skilled and popular politician in many ways who is doing a better job in the campaign now that the race is really under way. But that alone can’t explain the guy running twenty four points ahead of Trump in 2020. Unless a significant percentage of Trump’s support among disengaged indy and moderate voters has collapsed.
