    He’s not “faking” it to mock the proceedings. If that were true then observers would not also report on his obvious efforts to disguise his uncontrolled drowsiness.

    He’s simply not sufficiently healthy to remain awake and fully conscious for hours at a time.

    It could indicate any number of underlying health conditions. But all of those health conditions are serious and potentially deadly.

    A serious media and public discussion about Trump’s very obvious poor health is well overdue. If he’s too unwell to stay awake while he’s on trial for his freedom then he’s not fit to serve on that basis alone.

    Arguing that Palestine belongs to Palestinians, and Israel shouldn’t exist, is political speech, too. It’s not a point of view here in the United States, but it’s free speech.

    It seems to me if you’re going to ban one of these points of view from public discourse, you have to ban the other one, too. Otherwise, you’ll have an equal protection problem, not to mention a First Amendment problem.

    Sure. I admit that there’s just no place left in the normal internet for nuance anymore. And while I don’t normally try to practice it, I’m going to try right now.

    It is possible to support the student opposition to the GOI’s brutal war in Gaza while at the same time absolutely condemning expressions of anti-Semitism and support for Hamas that are contained withing that opposition movement.

    It is possible to support the manifest and inescapable right and need for the State of Israel to exist as it does while at the same time absolutely condemning the GOI’s brutal pursuit of genocide against the people of Palestine.

    It is possible to broadly support President Joe Biden and his eventual re-election while at the same time absolutely condemning his current policy of essentially unlimited support for the GOI war in Gaza given the quite obvious aims of that war.

    And it’s possible for a policy to embrace the inescapable fact that Hamas is a deplorable terrorist crime syndicate that must be wiped off the face of the earth, while at the same time demanding that the current GOI accept their moral and practical permanent obligation to continue to pursue a two-state solution.

    The modern State of Israel was founded 75 years ago out of a masterpiece of state craft and plenty of brutality and carnage in the midst of a global moral crisis. For those willing to admit to all of the history it is simultaneously obvious that the modern State of Israel must exist and that in order for it to exist it must also embrace the obligation to seek a two-state solution.

    Nothing will be ended by this current ongoing war of genocide in Gaza. When Israel tires of the unsatisfying pursuit of vengeance, when Western allies including the United States eventually withdraw their support, when the current Likud GOI fails under the moral weight of the price paid for that vengeance, the Palestinian people will still exist where they have always existed. And Israel and the people of Israel will still bear the moral obligation to face the fact of their existence and to pursue an outcome that offers them the continuing right to that existence.

    That moral obligation requires a fundamental change in the thinking and perception of a large percentage and perhaps a majority of modern day Israelis and probably quite a few global Jews and non-Jews as well. Because it also possible to completely support the permanent right to existence of the State of Israel while at the same time accepting the historical truth that its existence came about through the forced displacement and subjugation of and entire existing people and culture.

    Those people haven’t gone away. The obligation to grant them dignity and recognition hasn’t gone away. In 75 years it still lives on. Killing children won’t extinguish it. Reducing their cities to rubble won’t erase them. Wiping out Hamas won’t solve the underlying problem that requires the Israeli people to accept that responsibility. Perhaps that isn’t fair. And perhaps more than anything else that unfairness justifies our still unwavering support for Israel even still. But that support from allies like the United States simply can’t be sustained if the people of Israel themselves don’t change and embrace their own inescapable need for a Palestinian state.

    Because if they abandon that, they abandon themselves.

    With Trump’s age related frailty on daily display now I guess this makes the MAGA faithful feel better about their terrible life choices.

    But this hurts his chances tremendously.

    Republicans have basically failed on every other issue they had hoped to use. Age alone (3-1/2 years) was about all they had left.
    And they are walking away from that as well. I would imagine this messaging arose from frustration and some misguided effort to emulate Biden’s deft pivoting of “Fuck Joe Biden/Let’s Go Brandon” into “Dark Brandon”. But this is a terrible concession and as a message it won’t hunt. No disinterested swing voter is going to get behind the candidate who embraces his adult incontinence.

    Remember that Trump did not win in 2016 on the strength of his record, his command of the issues, or his “winning” personality.
    He won in 2016 by very systematically and persistently turning voters against Hillary Clinton. To do that he used her record, her personality, and her mistakes. He does not win by talking about Trump. He wins by talking about his opponent.

    With the actual real six months of the campaign season still ahead the polls (flawed as they are) are now essentially tied. Biden has six months of opportunity to push the dial in his favor promoting his wildly successful record and blasting away at Trump on pretty much whatever he feels like. Trump is hearing the sad click of an empty chamber.
