    Of course there will be an effort on the part of Rapepublican apologists and Trolls4Trump to waive off the disgracefully poor response by the previous administration to the global pandemic, and to steal as much credit as possible from the current administration to the turnaround success.

    But it really looks like the enduring impression on voters and the general public will be of a remarkable turnaround with credit going to Biden/Harris. Six weeks in and they are announcing that we will have supplies for everyone by May. Schools will be able to safely reopen. Most smaller live events and public gatherings can resume by summer. You can hold a cookout and invite the neighbors over.

    And Biden/Harris will get the credit.

    Reuters/Ipsos, Economist/YouGov, Politico/Morning Consult disapprovals over the last several weeks are all up 5-6%.

    You won’t see the approval number drop for a few more weeks, Steve. But opposition to Biden is growing, when he’s supposed to be in a “honeymoon” period.

    Speaking of Overton Window got me to thinking.
    Lots been said about how Trump, and Proud Boys, and Daily Stormer, and Breitbart, and the new GQP Q-Congress have expanded the Overton Window, bringing all kinds of topics into open debate that are important to “conservatives” but considered “taboo” or “politically incorrect”.

    But not as much has been said about how recent years have also shifted and expanded the Overton Window with regard to topics that are important to us Durty Hippies. We’ve now got about half of confessed Republican voters supporting legislation to send free money to everyone. Single Payer is talked about not in terms of “if” but “when is too soon”. The controversial moment for Biden so far has been when he declined to give more student loan relief. And Trolls4Trump now have deep misgivings about air strikes on non-Xtian brown people. Legal weed is sweeping the nation. And most major urban police departments have implemented big sweeping changes to their use of force policies that will severely limit their authority to fuck with non-whites for sport.

    I could go on. But that’s not the point. What occurred to me when I started comparing was how much of the “conservative” Overton expansion was limited to crude expressions of hate, fear, or distrust targeting “others” and how much of the liberal Overton expansion was policy targeted. They are fighting like hell to reclaim and protect public approval for making crude public expressions of bigotry. And we are fighting like hell (and winning) public approval for substantive policy to make all our lives better.

    A former employee of Tony Perkins Family Research Council who worked in the Trump campaign has now become the first Trump appointee to be indicted on criminal charges for his involvement in the Jan 6th domestic terror attack on the US Congress.

    Federico Klein was given a Schedule C exempt political appointment at the Department of State’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs in 2017 where he became radicalized before attempting to attack Congress on Jan. 6th of this year.

    So far more than 300 of the approximately 3000 Trump supporters who stormed Congress have been charged with crimes in the day time assault that was preceded by a series of pipe bomb attacks. Klein is the first member of the Trump administration to be indicted directly as a result. The initial charges are still as yet unknown, nor is it known if Klein is alleged to have taken part in the efforts to assassinate Vice President Pence.
