Shelby County is roughly 5-20 miles outside of Birmingham, AL. There are a slew of birthing practices in Birmingham, including Birth Suites – St. Vincent’s Birmingham. There’s also a midwifery open 24 hours.
You didn’t provide a link, so I’ll do it for you. While the article whines that 28 percent of Alabama women live more than 30 miles from a hospital with a birthing unit, it doesn’t make that claim for Shelby County. Because there are multiple birth centers well within 30 miles. IOW there’s plenty of surplus capacity reasonably close, and Tenet has no obligation to provide it within 5 miles of every preggo in the state.

There’s nothing wrong with liberal arts studies, either, which make people more civilized than you are.
I keep wondering how someone who turned medical education into a trade school slipped through the cracks. Didn’t you have to go to college to get into med school? @41 Tesla had a multi-year headstart on EVs. The legacy automakers can be justly accused of dragging their feet on vehicle technology; most of their innovation went into adding bells and whistles to their dinosaur vehicles.
Losing money on new technologies is OK when Silicon Valley does it, amirite? So why isn’t it OK for Ford to lose money during the early transition phase to producing mass-market EVs? (Are you forgetting the first Teslas were toys for the rich?)
This year Ford will earn ~$6.8 billion of net profit after factoring in its EV deficit on total sales of roughly $175 billion, while Tesla will earn about $11.7 billion on sales of $100 billion. Ford serves the market with many different models for different needs; Tesla offers only a couple. A car buyer of average means can buy any Tesla he wants as long as it’s a Model Y. Want a sports car, pickup, or delivery van? Call a Ford, GM, Toyota, or Honda dealer.
Tesla had the EV market to itself for years. That’s changing, and as it does, Tesla is having to cut prices to stay competitive, and inevitably will have to adjust to less market share and smaller margins. And those margins will get even smaller if Musk someday loses his non-union wage advantage. As someone who day trades TSLA options but apparently doesn’t own the stock for the long term, it appears you understand this.

About 15 years ago, maybe longer, I read in National Geographic that a scientist predicted our planet “will run out of atmosphere before it runs out of oil.” Even he couldn’t imagine how much new oil poroduction would come on line in the years since then (this was before fracking). The world’s problem is too much oil, not too little. People are finding oil nearly everywhere. You almost get the impression the continents are floating on it.

It insisted that debt ceiling negotiations would culminate in a “doddering Biden” forced to crawl on his knees before the assembled Republican might and publicly fellate the Speaker.
Instead Dark Brandon played them. 2024 spending is precisely where the President demanded. 2025 goes up. Defense got approval for increases to fund Ukraine kicking the shit out of Putin. And debt ceiling is suspended into 2025 beyond the next election.

I suspect Trump’s contempt for the military is rooted in being shipped off to a military academy in his youth. He strikes me as the kind of juvenile delinquent who wouldn’t take to wearing a cadet uniform and hate being bossed around. He’s probably hated everything and everybody associated with the military ever since. He’s certainly made it clear he despises our veterans, especially those who sacrificed their lives or suffered grievous war wounds.
For my part, as a veteran and loyal patriotic American, I don’t understand how anyone could vote for Trump even once, let alone twice. Only a deranged person could do that.

@120 One is more apropos than the other, and not in that order. Lest we forget:
“Bush’s approach in most situations seemed a reactive combination of calculations to avoid his father’s mistakes and to reject Clinton’s policies. This was especially clear in international affairs: in his first nine months he reversed Clinton’s policy toward China, proclaiming it no longer a ‘strategic partner’ but a ‘strategic competitor’; in the Middle East, by withdrawing U.S. involvement in the negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians; toward Korea, by abandoning the negotiated accord that had frozen the North’s nuclear program and by humiliating President Kim of South Korea, who was promoting North-South reconciliation, during his March 2001 visit to the White House, contributing to a wave of anti-Americanism in a country that was among the staunchest American allies; by withdrawing U.S. support from the Kyoto treaty on global warming; and by forsaking Clinton’s efforts to address the dangers of international terrorism.
“During the transition between administrations, National Security Adviser Sandy Berger arranged several extensive briefings on this last subject for Bush’s incoming national security adviser, Condoleeza Rice, and others on the Bush team, including Vice President Cheney. One briefing lasted half a day. Berger told them that Osama bin Laden was an ‘existential threat’ and told them that he wanted ‘to underscore how important this issue is.’ In another briefing, Richard Clarke, head of counterterrorism in the NSC, the single most knowledgeable expert in the government, gave them a complete tutorial on the subject. In yet another briefing, CIA officials were brought in to go over all the intelligence available on terrorism.
“Don Kerrick, a three-star general and outgoing deputy national security adviser, overlapped for four months with the new Bush people. He submitted a memo for the new National Security Council warning of the danger of terrorism. ‘We are going to be struck again,’ he wrote. But as Kerrick explained to me, he received no answer to his memo. ‘They didn’t respond,’ he said. ‘They never responded. It was not high on their priority list. I was never invited to one meeting. They never asked me to do anything. They were not focusing. They didn’t see terrorism as the big megaissue that the Clinton administration saw it as. They were concentrated on what they thought were higher priorities than terrorism.’ The Principals meeting of national security officials took up terrorism only once, after constant pressure from Clarke, on September 4, 2001, and at that meeting they discussed using unmanned Predator drone spy aircraft, but no decision was made. ‘Unfortunately,’ said Kerrick, ‘September 11 gave them something to focus on.’”
