I get the point, but “If Boise were a city in Oregon, it’d be our second largest,” just cracks me up.

Bicyclist really don’t need Legislation to tell them how to ride Carefully. Let’s get on to more important matters.

Stops signs are silly anyway. They should almost all be yield signs. In the UK stop signs are a rarity. Between “give way” signs and roundabouts they save fuel and wear and tear on vehicles by not stopping.
8
Benqmemberspews:
Bicyclists should be excused from obeying stop signs because they’re better than motorists. They’re not only more efficient, they’re just plain better drivers, the elite.
It is our sacred obligation to avoid inconveniencing them.

So, under the Idaho stop law it would be legal to do what I do when I ride my bike anyway and the crazies who totally blow stops will get an even bigger ticket? Sounds good to me.
The laws of superior tonnage and self preservation pretty much cover safe biking.

Shit, ya!
I went on a 50 mile ride today and had a bunch of cars yield the right of way to me when they didn’t have too. That NEVER used to happen.
Thank you Norm for helping us elect progressives. The ball’s in your court sore loser.

Since when do you pay taxes to pay for any sign, let alone a stop sign or a yield sign? Those who don’t pay can’t say–once again a lesson learned for our local “I’m between jobs damnit, I am!” YLB. Back to Momma’s basement kid….

I have to say, bicyclists do not much respect traffic signs already. I think such a law would make them even more bold in their recklessness. Try to be a driver on a road where bicyclists think they rule–it ain’t pretty.
So not losing momentum is the most important thing on the road, not safety? I did not know that. Interesting.

re 16: Another important thing to make bicycling enthusiasts happier is to get out of the way on footpaths when they yell “right behind you!!!”
I’ve almost been hit more times than I can count in this way. I would like to shove a stick in their spokes and say “Not anymore!!” That would give them a reason for those pointy helmets and unmanly spandex attire.

If you didn’t waddle your fat ass in the bike portion of the lane, we wouldn’t have that problem, now would we ?
You try and ‘shove a stick’ in my spokes and they’ll be a loooonng time finding a big enough shovel to DIG MY FOOT OUT OF YOUR ASS !!!

I’m fine with freeloading bikers.
They pay nothing for all their bikepaths.
Time for bikers to step up.
Need to pay for an extra tax on energy bars and horrid looking tight spandex.
No more freeloading by bikers.

This could be a positive if it were coupled with aggressive enforcement and big fines for the bicyclists who blow through stop signs and stop lights without slowing down or ride the wrong way down the road.

Cops are afraid to enforce the laws on bikes.
They will wait until there is another death.
Some bikers want all the benefits and none of the responsibilities of the road THEY PAY NOTHING FOR!
That said, many bikers are very courteous….go out of there way to be safe.
It’s the ANGRY LEFTIST KLOWNcyclists who are the problem.
Once a few get run over and mangled I suppose things will change.
We need a huge financial commitment from bikers. It’s loooooooooong overdue.

Cyclist pay the same sales taxes, property taxes and income taxes that everyone else does. Most of us own cars so we’re paying gas taxes too.
I’m all for putting a small surcharge on cycling related purchases to go for cycling related infrastructure as long as there’s sub-area equity attached to it.

Thanks for the good info, Mr. Cynical. When I become a bicyclist, I can stop paying taxes. I didn’t know that!!! Thanks for that valuable tip.
Now can you tell us HOW cyclists avoid paying taxes? It’s not intuitively obvious to me, but I’m sure you can explain it for us.
