We Have Failed

Seeing the coverage of the kids who survived the Florida school shooting at rallies and in the Sunday shows, I couldn’t help think of how much we, adults in this country, have failed them. However they grieve is the right way, but they shouldn’t have to be there.

They deserve better than the world adults are giving them. They deserve better than being judged on how articulate they are less than a week after living through a horror and having their friends die. The fact that they are stressing about something more than grades or sports or who to go to the dance with is our fault. Shame on us.

    Here’s a thought:
    QUIT THE MOTHERFUCKING NRA.

    And when you find yourself in the company of a member, shun them. If you employ a member, fire them. If you bowl with a member, stop. Etc. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Any healthy society would readily and openly regard membership in the NRA as a character failure surpassing child molestation.

    I think Jimmy Dore says some things on here that are pertinent. Guns really are not the problem here. Our culture is. After all you got RR the armed lawyer rabbit on here, who tells you all to take up arms. He isn’t not going to turn his guns in. Whether he really needs a gun is debatable. The NRA position is hegemonic. While the NRA is more or less a front anymore for gun manufacturers, even if the NRA did not exist most politicians in most districts know if they go too far on gun control they will be out of office. Of course those same politicians are just fine with the US bombing schools, hospitals and weddings of brown people far away. They are ok that the US is the number one arms dealer in the world. (Jobs baby Jobs.) We won’t take guns away from police even if their beat is just the local donut shop. We cannot tell Barney Fife, leave the guns in your car, unless the situation calls for you to have a firearm. Mental health is an issue, and the emptying of mental institutions during the Reagon years contributes. Still many of you would not want the state to bring back mental health the old fashion way. The placing our mental population out of sight and hearing. Though mostly harmless except to themselves.

    If anything one can argue the NRA is actually conservative and just reflects the opinions of most American’s. At least it was a bit nuanced when it came to black people having guns, though for gun control to happen in California all it took was for a group of black men to go into the Capital building armed. Insisting on doing what their fellow white citizens had done in the past. If the US Constitution contains a personal right to have a gun, then when lawbreakers get out of prison they should have the right restored. That is not the NRA’s position. It’s all for lwful American’s like RR to have guns; It is of secondary importance that a suicidal RR is likely to use his gun in a successful attempt at suicide. He might take Jessica Rabbit with him, but that is what playing paddy cake with a Philadelphia lawyer will get you. Also the NRA supports not selling guns to felons when if it’s a right they should be insisting that felon can buy any gun they want.
    Perhaps a community where everyone carries around a tommy gun would be a more polite and secure community. Not sure I would want to be in that community, but guns are clearly part of our community and culture. Guns are as American as mom and apple pie. Europe on the other hand generally is not a gun culture, and generally Europeans are less violent, and they like to see kissing and nudity. Even some low level of porn. on public TV. Suggest that the Me Too movement work to make America a more loving and inclusive society and we will see where that conversation goes.

    Guns are part of the problem. Until that is realized no progress will be made. Pretty blind to think otherwise.

    I don’t think anyone is asking for complete relinquishing of their guns. But there is always room for improvement with everything, including access to guns.

    And even if the guns aren’t the root of the cause, until you fix the root of the cause, you can’t have guns as part of the ingredients of the mix.

    You’re wrong, Carl. We haven’t failed. We were blocked. This is on Republicans, and on them alone. The rest of us are innocent. We tried our best, but it’s a fact of life that our political system is structured in a way that allows a minority of our people (about 36% of Americans own guns, and 3% own over half the guns) to harm the majority.

    Or does Carl think the Young Pioneers need to be set up? Is he out checking out his high school grounds for a firing range for the Democrat Young Pioneers.

    Or we can turn our schools even more like prisons. Have not read of any of these shootings happening at a prison. Walla Walla county has it made as they can move the schools right into the state penitentiary.

    Don’t spend that tax cut. You’re going to need it. Even if Trump’s gas tax doesn’t take 70% of it, higher inflation and interest rates are on the way. Mortgages, car loans, and credit cards will cost more. Health care will cost more. State and local taxes likely will rise to make up for federal budget cuts. You won’t come out ahead on this deal.
