Hmm. Anybody notice the latest Survey USA poll that shows Gov. Gregoire now enjoying a 48% to 44% approval/disapproval ratio less than a year since Dino Rossi’s frivolous election contest was dismissed with prejudice?
Hmm. Looks like voters are starting to evaluate her on the job she does, rather than the lies they were told about the election. So much for all that backlash we were promised.

Rossi was all about image (big hat, not cattle). Gregoire’s strength is in her skills, smarts, dedication and hard work. It just took a year for the voters to switch over from beauty pageant mode to appreciating what real leadership is all about (hint: it’s not about writing a cheesy, cliched / motivational / self-promotional book)

The only time Sims ever complained about the sales tax being regressive was when he ran for Governor, and hoped to get an edge over Christine Gregoire.
Otherwise, Sims has supported every single sales tax increase in King County since he was first elected to the King County Council back in 1989.

Bush death threat tied to PU student
By Danielle Braff
Post-Tribune staff writer
A Purdue University graduate student was arrested and charged with threatening to kill President George W. Bush, Laura Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.
Vikram Buddhi allegedly posted the detailed and threatening messages on an online message board.
Buddhi has been studying industrial engineering at the university, having moved temporarily from India to his new home in West Lafayette 10 years ago on a student visa. He was originally hired as a teaching assistant in the math department but was removed from that position and is now a teaching assistant in the industrial engineering department.
Since this is a very busy time for college students, being immersed in studying for their upcoming finals, Buddhi’s attorney John Martin said he hopes his client will be released from jail Wednesday following his detention hearing so he can return to studying.
Buddhi told investigators he posted the message, along with other derogatory messages aimed at the president, but Martin said Buddhi’s actions should be covered by the First Amendment since Buddhi would have never actually carried out his threats.
In the various messages posted, Buddhi urged the Web site’s readers to bomb the United States and for them to rape American and British women and mutilate them, according to court documents. Other messages called for the killing of all Republicans.
“What was allegedly said certainly is derogatory and may be inflammatory,” Martin said. “But there’s no real serious threat more than it was chat on the Web.”
Buddhi allegedly posted his messages on a Yahoo finance board dedicated to Sirius Satellite radio, a site that receives 2 million to 3 million hits a day, Martin said. A concerned citizen contacted the Secret Service office in Dallas to report that a subject was posting threatening messages about Bush, according to the criminal complaint filed in Hammond’s federal court and unsealed Monday.
Buddhi was arrested Friday and told investigators he is not suffering from any mental illnesses nor is he taking any illegal or prescription drugs.

There is no way the current Congress is going to open any investigations into the Bush administration. Too much info will blow back on them.
Yet they know that if the Democrats win either the House or Senate, then we will start to have some real investigations into Iraq, Katrina, the Plume affair, oil executive lobbying, etc. (rather than the whitewash shows the Republicans put on).
The only hope the Republicans have is to dig in, throw as much dirt on their opponants as they can and hope some sticks, and pray that they can still hold onto just enough seats to control both houses of Congress after Nov. 2006 elections. If they do, they can prevent any real investigations for another two years – enough time for Bush to pardon them as one of his final acts before leaving office.

Hillary [JCH]Clinton spews:
Teddy Kennedy, John Kerry, George Soros, Hillary Clinton, Ralph Nader – as Schweitzer documents, all these scolds of capitalist greed and champions of the down-trodden have done very well manipulating the system to increase their own power and privilege so that their money doesn’t end up in the government’s hands to finance the social justice schemes they loudly champion.
On racial issues too, these progressives may talk like angels, but they live like men. For all their professed love of “people of color” and anguish over racism, few of America’s most visible liberals actually live around or hire minorities – even Cornel West, Princeton professor and wannabe rap star, lives in Newton, whose black population is about two percent, meaning Professor West is unlikely to be hanging out with the brothers in the backyard.
When the Clintons came to Washington, they could have sent a powerful message of support for D.C. public schools by enrolling Chelsea in a neighborhood school like Jefferson or Hine. But of course, they enrolled her instead in the super-elite Sidwell Friends. Chomsky, who claims to be fond of fraternizing with the working class and “‘those considered to be riff-raff,’” as he puts it, has no intentions of actually living near any of them. About the time forced busing was imposed on the Boston area, Chomsky moved to the tony suburb of Lexington, buying a house worth nearly a million dollars. He also owns a vacation home in Wellfleet, worth $1.2. “Radical” author Howard Zinn “owns two homes in expensive lily-white Wellfleet and a third in multicultural Auburndale (minority population 3.3 percent).”
Like all rich people, rich liberals understandably want to live around and have their children associate with other rich people. But they at least can prove their commitment to diversity with their hiring choices, an opportunity on which most of them pass, including Congressional Democrats, who hire black employees at the same rate as Republicans do. Michael Moore has loudly chastised Hollywood for not hiring enough blacks. Yet Schweitzer’s survey of the 134 people who have worked on his films show a grand total of three black employees.
Comedian Al Franken has criticized Republicans for being indifferent to black unemployment. But of “112 people whom Franken either hired directly or had a strong influence in determining whether they would work on a project,” only one was black. Another hectoring liberal, Barbra Streisand, has hired one black producer out of sixty-three producers and directors she’s employed since 1983. Even for a documentary she produced about gang violence in Washington, D.C., the producers and the director were white.
On issue after issue, Schweitzer unmasks the reality behind the self-righteous preaching of America’s so-called progressives. Ted Kennedy decries “corporate welfare” and “giveaways,” but he still takes depletion allowances and drilling deductions on his family’s oil holdings. Ralph Nader loves unions, but not for the staff of his publication the Multinational Monitor. Democratic House Leader Nancy Pelosi has received the Cesar Chavez award as a champion of labor, but none of the workers picking grapes on her $25 million Napa Valley vineyard are from Chavez’s U.F.W. Pelosi also owns a large share of an exclusive resort in Napa, and none of its 250 employees belong to a union. Nor do any of the 900 employees of Piatti, a restaurant chain Pelosi is a partner in.
Barbra Streisand has waxed lyrical on the need to limit our wasteful energy consumption that threatens the environment. Yet Streisand, whose foundation owns stocks in several oil companies, spent $22,000 dollars a year just to water the lawn of her Malibu home. And she has an air-conditioned twelve-thousand-square foot barn just to house her show business memorabilia. That’s a lot of greenhouse gases.

The Clintons did not enroll Hillary in a public school because the Secret Service advised them that they could not protect her in a public school. It wasn’t that there was anything wrong with the schools themselves, it is just that because they were “public”, they could not control who went in and out of the schools, they could not audit the status of employees or restrict which of them had access to Hillary, etc. A private school was the only real choice.
Jimmy Carter used to attend church every Sunday, and even teach Sunday School while he was President. Reagan, however, failed to attend while he was in office (except for a few ceremonial occassions. His press secretary said it was due to the problem of providing security for the President, which he feared would create a disruption of the church service.
Bill Gates had the same problem – he used to fly commercial flights, drive his own car to work every day, etc., eat at Dick’s Hamburgers, etc., but once he was published as being the richest man in the world and he started a family, he had to change his security practices. To do any less would be idiotic.
Of course, Bill Clinton’s post-presidential office is not in Manhattan, but in Harlam.

Your point (comparison to Watergate) is noted, and I certainly want to see some real investigations, but I would point out two major differences:
(1) At the time of the Watergate investigation, the Democrats controlled the Senate (I think the House too, but I would have to check back on that to be sure).
(2) Also, back then (a) none of the Republican Senators really expected to find Nixon responsible for any wrongdoing, other than failure to supervise underlings in the re-election campaign, (b) the Senators themselves were not concerned about being investigated themselves.
With the Republicans in charge, and some of their number already under investigation, indictment, or in prison, and the lobbying scandal just starting to break open, I don’t see any of them pushing to a full investigation of anything, for fear of opening the floodgates.
What worries me is that this may be a replay of the 2004 election – where a majority of the incumbents win by a slim majority, only to have the scandals break open in the year following the election. Our best hope is to elect a Democratic Congress and Senate, which will give them the opportunity to investigate all these matters openly – including placing people under oath.
Clinton withstood six years of harrassment and investigation by the Republican majority in Congress (from 2002 on), and all they could come up with is that he lied about having sexual relations with an intern. I wonder how G.W. Bush and his cronies will fare after two years of Congressional investigations into his presidency?
